Paul ive had and still have trolls actually coming into my livestreams.. on several subjects and personal attacks. I think if i were to respond, which im fighting not to, i would go nuclear🤬its forced me to back off. Very well said Paul⭐️🙏

One other thing on the platforms that pay out both good and bad comments will bring in £££££ and most people don’t realise this. That’s why click bait is so popular

I can come across as negative on social media due to my Aspergers but I don’t mean to. It’s how you word stuff. Sometimes tho on Fb groups it’s the same questions day in day out that a quick google search would give you the answer for them and it’s mostly the really simple stuff really annoys me

Also tradescantia. It loves water. I have tradescantia zebrina and pothos growing in my planted tank

My favorite is the peace lily in the aquarium ... Also love the parlor palm in it

Dear Paul: Often, I take an interest, in RUclips videos, produced, by aquarists, who avoid showing themselves. I RUclips, to connect, with other aquarists, so I’m understandably interested in seeing such individuals. I encourage them, to make an occasional appearance. But, many are reticent, to do so, probably for fear of receiving negative comments. Very rarely, I get hateful comments, on my videos. I used to hide such comments and block “trolls.” These days, I think it’s funny, so I leave their comments. My favorite comment, was left by an individual, who had apparently seen several of my videos, in which I hadn’t made an appearance. When I posted one, showing myself, the viewer said, “Wow, you are a criminal-looking, scary individual. Keep your face, off your Channel.” I find this humorous, as I’ve worked in both juvenile and adult Corrections. I’ve noticed that the producers, of many, of the more popular RUclips, Aquarist Channels I watch show themselves, often. I believe that is one of the reasons that their Channels are so popular. Examples include your Channel, Pecktec, and Fish for Thought. I’m trying to find Honduran red point cichlids. But, I want to acquire the same species you have. I know they are an 𝐴𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑎 species. Just got 6 of these beauties i am putting them with some keyhole cichlids and not sure on dither fish yet wanted some balzanii but they are impossible to get in Merseyside i dont even bother asking anymore. :) awesome tank

Well said mate and especially with the comments side of things, the algorithm likes engagement so if you can turn a negative comment into engagement then you win. The other issue I suppose is that anything you put in text can be taken in many different ways so you never know exactly what they mean, sometimes it's obvious but sometimes it isn't as clear cut.

How much for the tank mate

I do indeed troll at tines but its not frequent, I troll only those who keep their fishies in unfavorable conditions, (for example a fully grown common goldfish in a 1 gallon bowl) and it doesn’t go further than mocking/making fun of them (not in a mean way)and telling them to upgrade their tank lol

Funny thing is when I get the trolls 🧌 I pretend to be too naive to know that they’re trolling. I laugh with them while sliding in truths and pretending that they knew that lol. I offer them fish and info that might save them some money. And funny thing is that when you treat them like a friend they get totally uninterested in trolling you anymore. I guess it’s know fun because that’s not the reaction they are looking for 😜.

I think that you are right mate. If someone is "trolling" just for the sake of being negative, they have something going on in their own life they need to deal with.

I've used Fluke Solve. Esha GDEX has the same active ingredient (praziquantel). But in liquid form. When I get a suspected fluke outbreak I use Fluke Solve (two doses). But follow up later with four doses of NT Labs Anti-Fluke and Wormer. This has a different active ingredient (flubendazole). I find fluke really difficult to treat. 😢

You make complete sense Paul, and I find that an issue at times myself. How to handle it for me is typically a rage comment to respond then I erase it cause I know it isn’t worth my time. You are also correct on the fact sometimes it might not be meant that way. There are people from all over the world watching you these videos and sometimes the meaning can get lost in translation.

I've had one person troll me to the extent it was harassment, also included doxxing, sending other people to harass me etc. Although they all lacked the ability to Google me given what they said. Wouldn't be surprised if this person has harassed others. Some was quite flattering as I think they thought I must have been much younger then I was, some of the comments were putting down for my age yet I was older then the ages they were claiming to be haha. I kept all the screenshots. Turns out that guy is banned on most catfish groups on Facebook and while he claims to know well respected people it seems from his posts he doesn't, he also used to steal peoples videos/images to claim he had bred those fishes. Turns out the best thing to do, first I messaged the person to ask them not to, the next time I actually asked them not to on a Discord server. Since then it seems that person has backed off, but then it takes a lot of patience. I am happy to sit there and explain things many times but there is a limit. I've done teaching and I am happy to give people the time. It's impossible to please people, I get it where people dislike me being a scientist but others like it. Takes a lot for me to block people, I have done and do so if they are that bad.

Haters are going to hate. The tropical fish community is far from the worst. I have a few interests and I love music and hi-fi ,the trolls are ridiculous. They are right and no one else's opinion matters, that amp must be shit, it didn't cost thousands of pounds (audiophile more like audiofooled!) That's not their best album, this is, because I'm always right! Ignore them mate, life's too short.

I know how you feel mate, thankfully the trolls are massively outnumbered by the genuine folk, keep doing the vids it's good to see someone who shows both sides of fishkeeping, none of us know everything and we all make mistakes its good to see both sides. Still struggling with the cichlid issue/illness, seems to be settling down now i've stopped feeding prawns but still haven't identified the cause for sure, would it be worth dropping Spud a comment to see if he's ever seen anything like this?

Excellent perspective Paul. You do need a little bit of a thick skin. It's disappointing that some people don't follow the rule of "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" online, while irl they'd be too scared to say anything to anyone's face. Great that you pointed out that they probably have a lot of problems not related to the video they're trolling on, and good on you. 👍👍

Great video, mate. You know what I really liked about that video, the way you just kept the camera throughout. Now that's a skill I want to learn! The topic as well, I find sometimes I get really frustrated with negative comments on my videos 1. If I get a negative comment in real life, I will confront the person and challenge the comment. Just want to point out that I'm saying I'll challenge the comment, not the person. Sometimes, I find it frustrating that I can't do that. 2. People who tell you you're wrong when they can't explain how you're wrong.

When I got back into fishkeeping I jumped into Reddit. Lots of group think and hive minds. I decided to troll a bit before I bailed out. I named the ‘two gallon crew’ for the Betta owners who don’t see the irony of a two inch fish that sleeps on a hammock enclosed in a ten gallon tank. Animal Cruelty they cried. And yet how many tons of wild fish are slaughtered for the pet food industry. Indeed fish meal is a staple in their flakes and pellets. Somehow that’s okay to them. I’m an omnivore so tuna and fish are on my menu. And if I kept a Betta, it may be in a two gallon aquarium.
