Love these cats. Not usually an albino fish but these guys are the exception!! They look very natural. I agree about having lots of hiding spots for cats!!
Totally with you on the albinos Chris, my exception has always been the albino Rainbow Shark, whats your thoughts on them? But yea these as albino really work well!!!!
I like these species profile videos mate. I’ve just got rid of all my cichlids & im going with the bread & butter community fish. Just put 30 rummy nose tetras in my 250 litre with some rainbows, rams, Amazon puffer, other tetras & my Green phantom pleco I bought at the auction last weekend. Paid £25 for the green phantom & was buzzing 😂
cracking video again Paul. I've a group of 5 WC ones from Peru. Great fun to keep, very active, crazy appetite and will always take flake/pellets from the surface. I really recommend them as very peaceful and seem to swim at levels. Like some cover like dense plants to rest in. Oddly one of the group has morphed into a short-body somehow-its healthy and active just looks like a balloon. Agree about the barbels; I use large grain smooth gravel as they constantly dig and this like you said prevents the tissue from eroding. I wished I'd kept them before I pronounce them 'MEGA-LEE-CHIS THORA-CATA'
Dear Paul: The water in Kentucky is very hard and alkaline. I’m not sure if Megalechis thoracata would do well, in it. I avoid manipulating such parameters, because I’ve heard that fluctuations, in same are stressful, for fauna. I did see a couple albino Megalechis thoracata, on offer, at a local, swap meet and was tempted to give them a go. But, I prefer scaleless catfish, with a wide mouth, such as Microglanis iheringi. This species stays hidden, most of the time, but it is always a joy, to get a good look at it, when it comes out. Thank you for sharing your interesting and informative video, regarding your, adorable hoplo catfish. All my best, Sincerely, E. J. Brinegar
The adults are very easy to sex Paul as the males get a much thicker first Ray on their pectoral fins. Also adult females, when viewed from above, are noticeably fuller in the abdomen. (thanks also for the shout out 👍). Fascinating fish to breed…
@ they should be just as visible as on the standard hoplo. It’s difficult to see them clearly on the video but if they are taken out and put in a container and viewed from above the difference should be easier to notice.
I have a couple of pictus that were sold to me as a pair - unfortunately they are two males! I personally like the pectoralis species which is the smallest of the hoplos and bred them years ago.
Great profile Paul and some really great footage! (Got your new phone?) I'm with Chris below in terms of not an albino fan excluding the albino Rainbow Shark but these look better than the non albino arguably so thanks for showing them off:)

@Aquadiction I like the albino shark too because of the red tail...

Awesome profile Paul! That is one interesting catfish 😁👍
Brilliant profile Paul👍🏽 They are very active and visible for some catfish.
The driftwood catfish and pictus catfish are my favorite I'll look out for some of these ...thanks for your info on these😊

Always loved Hoplo’s. There’s a great group of adult albinos in a local shop that someone would go really well to pick up.
Haha which local shop mate

Bubble nesters aren’t they ?
I wonder if the first Ray is as noticeable in albino
I can see on my young 4 one has a thicker orange first Ray
