    Here are 6 rare "must-have" South and Central American cichlids that I think are beautiful. I was able to get a hold of them from my channel sponsor, The Cichlid Shack in Arizona. In this video I describe each of them, including both their common and scientific names. It's every fish currently in my 55 grow-out / quarantine tank fully described.
    Take a look and tell me what you think about this combination of fish. Have you owned these fish? What has been your experience with them and what tips can you provide to help me (and the viewers) that either own or would like to own these fish. What fish would you add to this collection? Be sure to share your thoughts in the comment section.

    Hi Ben, I just stop yr video to make a comment to you, this is very well done, when you show a fish that is young and put a picture of it with full growth so that people can see how it well be, since when there young they normally don't show color's, I suggested this to a fish importer in Florida, that brings fishes from almost all parts of the world, because this could help him to sell his stock quicker, now I'm going to see the rest of yr video, I saw you and yr granddaughter on the instergram, very cool, the second generation, take care regards from Portugal.

    Great video. Very informative as always. Seeing as how you love your severums . Have you ever looked into getting the Tiger Severum? I currently have four of them and their colors are beautiful. I also have eleven severums in my 200 gallon, a mix of turquoise, gold, red speckled, green and red headed. I’m in the process of changing over my 210 gallon aquarium from saltwater to freshwater and that will be housing my Tiger Severums along with 2 more red speckled and a turquoise. I appreciate the info on the chocolate cichlids. I will be looking forward to also getting a few and adding them also to the 210. Love your channel and best of luck to you and your family.

    Good timing Ben! I just bought a 125G tank and I plan on getting South American cichlids. Love your new fish. I plan on getting some of them especially the Severum. Also the blue Acara and red head geo are on my list! Whenever I set up a new tank I’m like a kid waiting for Christmas! Found the substrate I want on sale going to pick it up today. One step of many as you know to get a new tank going. Good thing is I am retiring a 75g community tank I have had for 18 years. So I am taking 1 cycled marine land C- 360 canister filter from the 75g and a cycled FX6 from my 125g African cichlid tank. I currently have 2 of them on that tank plus a Seachem tidal 110 so plenty of cycled media to go around. Instant cycled new tank. I am also moving wood and rocks from the old tank so that will help too.

    Awesome video Ben! I love south americans. Ive mentioned how i cant find the red spotted gold severum anywhere here in michigan but i found a shop a little drive from me who said he says he doesnt right now but he does have red gold severums that are just a red spotted bred here in america with no hormones. Have you heard of this? It made me nervous

      @BenOchart I found a different shop a little further than the last who had 1 tiny one left I drove out and picked her up. She's tiny and my also female EBA has been nipping at her chasing her around. I've separated then because I don't want the severum to not come out to eat. But what's making my generally calm fish act this way?

    Beautiful tanks and fish. I also have a Neon Blue Acara and it's a beautiful mellow fish. My Chocolate cichlid literally bothers nobody. He's about 4.5 inches now and when the tank lights go on in the morning, he has creamy and brown striped camouflaged look before he turns back to his brown colour... He's my favourite fish. Both the fish i mentioned are in a 55 gallon with a convict, firemouth, gold Severum, rainbow cichlid, a geophagus surinamensis, koi Angel... and a Bolivian Ram that owns the tank lol. They will all eventually go into 180 gallon that arrives in December. Then I'll get a Jack dempsey, Urau and a true parrot ( beautiful blue/green colouration on them).... Just a sand bottom with rocks and large driftwood. I've subscribed to your channel, keep up the good work.

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  3 года назад +1

      Sounds like an awesome combo of fish. Is there only one surinamensis? The true parrots are my favorites for sure. They are going to love that bigger tank.

    Hey Brother, nice job on species when it comes to housing all those beasties together. I didn't do as well. There haven't been any real issues... yet. But they're coming for me. I can see the storm clouds on the horizon. I can just feel it. I have a 210 like you and I went with a pair of Oscars, a pair of Angels (one died) a pair of Convicts (one died) a Salvini, a Venezuelan Pike, a Green Texas, a Jack Dempsey and a Managuensis (jaguar). Plus there's a striped raphael, a spotted raphael and a jaguar wood catfish in there, an L-47 mango pleco and three silver dollars. Things have been good for two years, but I have noticed a tick up in the aggression level. I think they're just getting too big for the space. I plan on separating the SA and CA but think I'm running out of time here.
    Slightly smaller, far less aggressive fish are definitely the better call.

  • @Gilsfishroom
    @Gilsfishroom 2 года назад

    My Chocolate Cichlid is the largest and by far the most peaceful fish in my SA tank. Kept with Geos, Angels, Albino Heckelii and Tetras. Had 2 blue Acaras (not electric) but removed them as they were a bit nasty come feeding time. Your Surinamensis form a hierarchy, so if you had a few more the aggression from the dominant fish would be spread out among the others causing less fin damage in my experience.

    the hardest / rarest cichlid to find in the hobby right now is the Hemichromis Fasciatus, I can't find them for sale any where on the internet, i don't think any one even owns one currently in America, more than likely because pound for pound they're the most violent cichlid out there

    Nicaraguan Cichild or Nic Cichlid (Hypsophrys nicaraguensis) is also known as Macaw Cichlid. Although Wolf Cichlid or Dovii or Rainbow Bass is known to be a lake fish as the name Lagunero, it does occur in streams and rivers with the Macaw Cichlid with the lue Demon Cichlid or Poo man's Tropheus or Neet (Hypsophrys nematopus) a highly aggressive Cichlid known to operate cleaner areas and usually ranked in the top 15 most aggressive American cichlids. The Dovii is the Neets greatest predator in the wild. The Neet often usurps the Nic from nesting areas in streams.. The Nic will adopt Dovii young separated from parent care in the wild until them can defend for themselves.

I was shocked. I could've stolen fish if they actually had a decent inventory. I ended up going to the "Ocean Floor" in Phoenix. I really liked their selection and plenty of people to help answer my questions.
