Another great video Ben, I live in northern Illinois and I am lucky to have a local fish breeder and I currently have a Strigatus and Insignis and are beautiful fish.I have never seen any of the ones besides the Gar.Have a great day!
Hi Ben, you really made me miss my Malawi Haps with this one. I did at one time have most of those fish at one time or another in my old 210, except that Protromalis lab. Lol. I’m really looking forward to seeing you very soon now. Nice job with this video
I’m about to get a kiwinge. Hardest dimidiochris to find is the dimidiatus. Only place I’ve ran across them is Dave’s rare fish. Next time he gets some in I’m getting a group
Yes, Daves rare fish had them. i picked up two about 6 months ago from him and they are just about fully grown with very nice color. They are longer in the body than the Kwinge.
I have F1 Chromoditilapia Guntheri and Offspring. Might be the rarest that I’ve bred (without being a breeder). They pair up for life and are mouthbrooders. Daily small for Hap but beautiful. Cheers.
Great video. Stunning Protomelas Labriden along with the other gorgeous Haps. I have a stud Didi Strigatus that mated with a female Placidichromius Jalo Reef. Hybrid males are coloring up and look great. The Jalo Reef has also mated with Oropharynx German strain Lithobates and the strain have stunning males with a beautiful white blaze on the head.
Livefishdirect always has them. I think Josh at Cunningham cichlids just got some in too. Cichlid express, man just check around they’re readily available if you look
I’m missing my Strigatus watching this. Found one at a local store last year but it didn’t live and I’ve been unable to get another. Settled for the albino eye biter as a substitute. One fish I don’t see around much I stumbled on the Tolae. Mine is starting to color nicely.
Hi I have 2 very smart intelligent Oscars, Tony and Emmy. my question is" I use after cooling down hot water into three five gallon buckets, and let them sit for 3 days and then change the water in my tank with that. I seem to have no problems but is it safe I've had them 2 years now and I love them they're hilarious,🤣 thanks for your comeback
Got a breeding group of gar right now. Beautiful fish! Also have the strigatus and insignis in one of my display tanks, but my strigatus is having some health problems😪
I hear ya. Sometimes I wonder if there’s some bullying going on when I’m not looking. I’ve recently removed an Eyebiter and a Kiwinge because they were looking run down.
@@BenOchart oh yea there’s for sure some bullying in mine lol a 125 filled with nothing but male peacocks and haps, but it’s not terrible. Health problems the strigatus is having among a few others is some type of bacterial infection
Ben : what is the best way of cooling a tank? The recommended temp for my fish is 72-78. With this national heat wave, my tank is running at 82-84. Obviously there is ice and cold water but I do not want to do that until I hear of an accepted method from an experienced aquarist like yourself. Thanks!
Hi Mike. Fish can usually tolerate higher temps, but of course it’s not ideal. I used to have, in Calif., a tank outside under an overhang. It would over 100 sometimes. I would float a frozen water bottle in the tank and that would bring the temp down.
I've decided I'm definitely going to switch to sand substrate. I'm still mad at myself for letting my local fish store owner's wife convince me that I should use gravel. I still don't understand why she did that.
African cichlids are too aggressive for kissing gouramis but maybe South American cichlids might work like a chocolate Cichlid or perhaps Rams (if the water requirements match up).
Random question. Getting ready to add general cure api to my tank tomorrow because I believe my cichlids have internal parasites. I know I have to remove the carbon. So my chemi pure blue is 1 week new, So how do I preserve it? Can I just throw it in a tubberware with tank water?
My guy just flexin! lol nice fishes as always. I hope you get there one day!

Thank you Denny. Yes, I’m looking forward to the visit!
Yes i agree 😊
Thank you after watching your video on Malawi trout, I managed to get one from my buddy Nolan at Nolan's Aquarium
Please give Nolan my best regards. He’s a good guy. Trouts are amazing. You’ll eventually need a minimum of 6-7’ wide of swim space.
So cool !!!!!! i breed alot of the cichlids you just mentioned!!! super great fish Ben and the video was great too!!!
Thank you 😀👍🏻

I’d love to see that hybrid!
Hi Ben. I took video of the hybrids. Please let me know where I can send it for you to see. Thanks

Hi Ben. Correction a VC 10 is a Placidochromis and not a Protomelas like you mentioned.
Yes! My mistake, Placidochromis milomo
I have an insignis hes the biggest fish in my 90 6-7” hes one of my favs
They are stunning fish!
Gorgeous fish, thank you

Love Z Rocks and will add one to the collection in the future.
@@BenOchart. Awesome!

@@BenOchart you know it only in a good way
I’ve been dying to find a strigatus for a while now!! Definitely a dream fish for me
Got a really nice one from The Cichlid Barn. Check him out on Facebook.
James at the Cichlid Shack can hook you up. Use shackattack10 for a discount😉

I am getting some shelf dwellers. Is there any special rock I should use for their hideouts? I have a 20G long they are going into.

Unfortunately bad advice from shops is not uncommon🤷🏼♂️
You job with F0 wild?
What kind of cichlids would work best with kissing gourami? Would love to be able to ad some to my tank
African cichlids are too aggressive for kissing gouramis but maybe South American cichlids might work like a chocolate Cichlid or perhaps Rams (if the water requirements match up).

Just keep it moist in a plastic baggie. It should be fine
@@BenOchart thanks so much 💪🏽love the channel and info
Vc-10s aren't protomelas they are placidechromis
Correct
@@BenOchart so the labriden isn't really a close cousin of the vc-10
Coupon code for cichlid Shack doesn't work
Be sure it’s all lowercase. If it still doesn’t work call James and he’ll make sure it does.
