Thanks for this! It once again made me deeply grateful I have a Pi-Hole (I blissfully don't get any adverts on the home screen).
    But!
It's not the exact same thing you're describing, but, Roku ruined their Fall Stroll In the Park screensaver with embedded adverts, and I'm freakin' sad about it.
See, I live in coastal So Cal (bear with me here).
We don't really get fall foliage (our seasons go: 70 Degrees Daytime, 50 Degrees Night; 79 Degrees Daytime, 69 Degrees Night; Inexplicably Hot And Windy Days AND Nights (relatively speaking) Plus Everything's On Fire!; and, 75 Degree Christmas And Even MORE Fires, Somehow). The point being, our weather isn't conducive towards fiery-colored leaves...unless, of course, the leaves are *literally* on fire, then, yeah...but, that's not really the same thing.
So, no fall foliage means it's been tradition for me every September (the beginning of everyone else's Fall) to switch my Roku summer screensaver from the aquarium to the Fall Stroll (and dude, I love those stupid fish, especially the eel, I call him Eelie! The aquarium screensaver is literally the ONE thing preventing me from switching to an Apple TV streaming box, that's how much I love the fish).
    But anyhow, where was I?
Oh yes, today I switched (as is tradition) to Roku's Fall Stroll In The Park, and was dismayed (pissed) to discover apoplexy-inducing-level visually-intrusive billboards not only ruining the fall charm, but blocking the view of the sweet film and TV references/easter eggs (THEY BLOCKED THE FREAKIN' *CLOCK TOWER*, FOR CHRIST's SAKE) that made me love that screensaver in the first place.
    sigh.
With a heavy (pissed) heart I switched right back to the fish, but, even though it's 70 degrees outside right now it's still sort of chilly in that aquarium this time of year, and I sorely miss getting my Fall fix, and I thought I'd comment here, because WTF ROKU?! and, there isn't really anywhere else to gripe; Aside from one tangentially-related, sparsely populated, year-old Reddit thread and this video, Google didn't really produce any more results leading to anyone else addressing this or other related Roku issues.
One thing's for sure, though, because I am not *just* a bitch, but a *vindictive* bitch, whatever product they're attempting to sell me is a product I'll deliberately avoid, and I'll also probably harbor a lingering resentment towards the company or product doing the advertising. Their machinations just won't have the effect they are hoping for on me, for better or worse I take someone fucking up something I love personally (but, I know, I am sadly in the minority).
RIP, Fall Stroll In The Park. You may not be totally dead, but you're surely a sad, useless, 80% advertisements zombie of your former self.

The times when the customer's opinion counts are long gone, now it is important how much money you can pocket

More ads.... Less content.... higher prices. I'll keep Cable. Just watched a movie and it's still running. So far there have been 8 interruptions with ads. That is terrible. I wonder how many more there will be before it's over.

I'm going to be getting the Onn Pro that is coming any day now. Walmart is selling it at sometime in the near future. And from what I have seen so far, none of this ad-crap on home screens. And with no roku o/s in whatever new tv I buy, my hdmi will also be free of ads.

I've been using Roku around 10 years or so for streaming apps only and that advertisement on the side I never paid any attention to it. I always figured that, that portion of advertising was making you aware of movies or TV shows. I only go to apps that I use and the rest doesn't bother me, also, I turn off advertisment so any ads about McDonald's or deodorant I never seen that.

If the new ads autoplay with sound and there is no way to disable them, I will switch to Apple.

You are complaining about ads but put an ad in the middle of your video.

I would say there is a big difference between an ad inserted in a free video and more ads integrated into a product you purchased already. Of course I need to make a living
