Have the previous chromecast, and a usb c hub with power, multiple usb and memory card ports, and ethernet. If the steamer had a microSD card port, or a dedicated usb 3 or usb c for external drives or memory card readers, it would be a better value at that price. I can see the value though, if you're already have a chromecast for travel, and want a dedicated tv box with more power.
I'm already experiencing playback issues via Kodi and Amazon prime. Stuttering video and losing the HDR signal. It won't play Dolby vision from Kodi either.... It's reasonable snappy, and I do like the interface, so hopefully Google will fix these issues. Great review, but no mention of any playback issues at all?
@@TheBman3rd not just kodi I had issues with Netflix Amazon , no sound pass through stuttering on 1 gig wired internet. This is using processor from a 2021 fire stick , even the 2015-2017 model beats this on benchmarks. They ruined it by cheating out on chip and processor . only upside to this was gig port and 32gb storage, but plenty of adapters out there to convert to 1 gig and add more storage for €15
The only thing "premium" (i hate the term which is an arbitrary way to describe an expensive product) is its price. Like you said, the Onn 4k offers similar performance and better functionality for half the price. There is no excuse for this thing to not have an extra USB C port for storage. Especially for the price. It has a three year old chip, which isnt the end of the world of they had priced it accordingly. This box should have probably been $30-40 cheaper and it would have been a better sell. I'm coming off an Apple TV Pro and I wanted to check it out but not at full price.
Absolutely agree the really did cheap out on this using a 2021 fire stick processor 4 years old , no extra usb c slots and what’s even more shocking is sound performance it only has 2 sound pass through, I tried it and it went back next day , had no sound pass through no true HD stutter even frame freeze . Has exactly same benchmark as onn 4k pro but onn gives you more added features I personally think this maybe for counties that can’t get onn 4k pro but with a big mark up , I’ll dtick to my shield and cube . This is a huge flop it’s nearly 2025 and this is what they came up with
I already have an AppleTv 4k and an NVidia Shield Pro - bought the Streamer here in the UK and was impressed with the fluidity of the interface, liked the home controls as we are all an all google household. Problems started when i realised i had to change default resolutions as some of my non mainstream apps were frame dropping like mad. The resolution that works, does not support Dolby Vision. Then True HD is not supported...cant decide whether to keep the NVidia or not. It has started slowing down and i fear the new streamer s likely to get more clever in time. @upgradeGuyTech what do you think?

When I purchased the Shield in 2019, there was nothing like it and we only ever used it for streaming. The steamer does all that and we are trying to minimise boxes rather than have more. Thanks

It's faster, still just as easy to use easy to use and just works. So now the 2024 Roku Ultra is my favorite streaming device It comes with the Roku voice remote pro 2nd gen. It does hands free commands, lost remote finder, has a programmable button, a guide button, backlit buttons and is rechargeable. Now I used to say that the original Roku voice remote pro was the best remote ever and didn't think Roku could make it better and they did. The Roku voice remote pro 2nd gen is the best remote ever. Amazing! The 2024 Roku Ultra is definitely worth getting.

I want to know about apps that have live, in the minute , sports, weekly shows, entertainment. I have one called creed but it is continually cutting out between 6 and 10 in the evening so it might be customer overload. Tell me what to purchase to get what I want.
I can't get around the fact that the Fire TV Cube 3 has obsolete ports in USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet. I am not going to pay $130+ when they decided to skimp on hardware like that. I wish there was a real alternative to the Shield 2019 Pro.
@UpgradeGuyTech People who play 4k remuxes from their local media servers sometimes require speeds more than 100Mbps. IMO USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet ports should have been phased out several years ago. USB 3.0 has been around for almost 2 decades, and Gigabit Ethernet has been available for over 25 years. USB 4.0 will soon become the new standard, and 10Gbps equipment is starting to become a lot cheaper. For now, IMO USB 3.2 and Gigabit Ethernet should be the default standards. Since these standards are all backward compatible, there really is no need to keep making boards with the old ports. The cost difference is negligible, and IMO not worth keeping those old ports in production.
The Onn 4k 32 - 4 is cheaper and better do a review between Google and Onn box they need to make a box with SD memory slot so we can have more APKS and fast speed without the killer circle I hate the buffing 😢
And can I add a usb dongle to this device like the anker or ugreen because my chrome cast had a dongle with 512gb usb and a usb keyboard. But that otg thing looks like it only has one usb port at least the one in the picture. Someone let me know
Googles ad should say "Streaming WITH all the hassles". Doesn't even work with Googles Home app if your network uses AP isolation (guest network). Doesn't like 5ghz networks. Plus all these on this video.
So literally the one thing I've been waiting for from Android TV 14 is device-wide PiP mode for media apps, and not only is that not coming to Android TV 14 in general, they don't even offer it as an exclusive on this effin thing? And after 4 years, all it managed to do was gain a 22% processor improvement, when it was already barely scraping by on release? That's just pathetic. Google go fluff yourself. I was holding off upgrading to Apple TV 4k, thinking maybe Google will redeem itself - but this is the last straw.
This thing looks like e-waste just enough functionally to be useful today. But not enough for next year. Probably look for a more sustainable solution. Tierd of these almost useful gadgets.

The Apple TV had me intrigued until I realized there is no 3rd party App Store and some apps I would be able to download on a android style tv box I can’t get with Apple was a huge blow for me. Smart tube and popcorn time are some almost daily apps for me not being able to use it made sure I wouldn’t get an Apple. But if Apple would allow for that I’d get an Apple TV so fast no question

Nvidia Shield is still superior imo.
