This video was not clear about wich construction they were talking about, so I did my research and found that it's about the Göbekli Tepe. You're welcome
@@illdrumatik391 What do you propose it was built by? Did it just rise from the ground like that or do you believe something even dumber like "ancient aliens" or some kind of other advanced civilization that somehow has mysteriously vanished with no trace did it?
I actually love this idea and not just because I'm an historian but because it's all inclusive and doesn't elevate one religion over another or above none at all.
Most places with other religions use different calendars. For example, the Solar Hijri calendar, Tabular Islamic calendar, the Mayan calendar, etc. The Gregorian calendar is mostly used in countries that once had a majority Christian population.
í guess this video was cool í never really thought this much about the calendar. seems stupid to claim it as a tool for religion if you ask me. the year 0 is supposed to represent the time after jesus died not born, thought that was basic knowledge for a professional historian.
Hundreds of millions of aborted babies will disagree with you strongly on that one you moron. Newsflash, you are a moron and you are one of the moronic species known as humanity. The only hope you have is to realise how moronic you are and go from there. There is your truth, see what you want to do with it.
I hope this becomes a more significantly talked about issue one day. It doesn't seem like it's such a big deal but it's about perspective and sometimes perspective can change the world.
First we need to overcome magical and religious thinking, for that we still have a lot of work ahead. I hope that maybe in 12.118 that could be possible.
This really isn't significant at all... If you think about all the changes that need to be made in order to facilitate a change like this then you quickly find out that it isn't really worth it. I mean, what is the point of making this change? Just to separate the calendar from its Christian roots? We have loads of other things in our society today that are rooted in Christian values, so why bother changing this one thing?
And we have to overcome Capitalism/War. An economy focused on profit$/greed - rewarding the worst traits at the expense of billions of people worldwide. We have to change our corrupt imperialist oligarchic system to one that focuses on humanity and progress as a species.
The question is: why? First, switching to a new calendar would be insanely hard. Second, basing it on things not written in any sources is not really a good idea.
Jay Kay Incredibly. Many systems in the world are coded only for handling four-digit current dates. Most date displays can only display 4 digits. Most people are accustomed to the current system. It would be basically a stupid thing to do just for sake of replacing Christian significance with nerd significance.
Car Lover Well, the only reason we base off written history is because in the past that was the only reliable information. Now though, this information is pretty trustworthy. As for it being hard, not really. It would require devotion to the idea, but tougher things have happened.
Imagine that you fall in a comma in 2019 and wake up in 2023 and you're like "What year is it?" "12023" "DAMN WHAT THE HECK" "Sir it's only been 4 years since you fell into a comma." "Oh that new calendar that was getting support..." "Yeah, it was just implemented around the world last year." "Okay thanks for helping"
I mean to be honest if u were supposedly in a coma for so long doctors would pronounce you dead. No one can wait for ur pulse to return for such Long periods of time. Just being realistic
As a humanist I can say I support this new calendar. It will take a while for the world to adjust if it is adopted, but if we must face the future we must have one less difference between members of our species.
I agree , humans must be the angstiest species to ever exist, it would be good to see something that celebrates humanity instead of moaning about how shit we are.
Hayden Chisholm Well, to be fair we have no idea what other species think about themselves. For all we know if dogs could speak to us they might be the most nihilistic creatures on the face of the Earth.
As a christian. I endorse this wholeheartedly. Christ would have wanted us to start from the beginning of when we stopped thinking like animals, graduated and birthed into taking our first steps into making the world our own. After all 'be fruitful and multiply.'
Andrew Singleton EXACTLY. And that didn't just mean in population, but also in talents, morality, cultures, and various other things that make humans humans.
We were given minds capible of figuring things out. Why shouldn't we? Better to know than not so we can decide what things we really shouldn't do rather than 'oh everything is off limits forever.'
Perhaps so. However while God is the alpha and omega, we have been given minds capable of piecing together the how of the tinker toy set we're in. Why else make the universe make sense in ways beyond 'god wills it'? We have freedom of will, which means there must be a logical explanation that is not god-dependent for there to be real choice else it's just a petulant child telling their parent to sod off. Now? If the universe is governed by rules that do not fluctuate at the whims of vodka. This means we can use how things connect to make the universe better.
@@Phantom87865 No i mean i was seriously looking for what their name was and this was the only comment related to them. I did find the answer though. Chinchorro. Saw a very interesting documentary about them.
As an atheist and someone who has zero connection to Jesus or just any "one historical figure," I find this a really cool idea. Those who grew up with the old calendar wouldn't even have to do any math to orientate themselves by the old one, since we'd keep the last 2 digits identical. Not much would change.
i feel kinda sad that people who lived back then never know what humanity has grown into as a species and how we will never know past around 2100 where humanity will go
Famey Though I try not to think about it, you've basically outlined what I often ponder on... yeah, it is very sad, but it's just our natural instinct to be curious. That's the whole reason why we've come along this far and we wonder where we'll go in the deep future! :)
I think that's the best part. To look back at all the stages of humanity and see who took part in what, and how that turned out. The fact that things can change so much is pretty cool. All that matters is that we were here and we contributed. Humanity in the year 2100, if humanity still exists, will only be there because we were here in this moment, right now. Think of that. It's amazing how connected we all really are.
You have to keep in mind that with the progress of medicine we have NOW a lot of people who are like 20 now are going to live in 2100. It's breathtaking how far humanity has come as a species in the last 50 years alone. Now imagine that progress but even faster with twice as much time.
Comments: 10 percent atheists calling christians idiots 20 percent christians defending themselves in the replies 30 percent people making percentage comments 10 percent people saying why this wouldnt work 30 percent people saying how cool it is.
ThatBulgarian "Whats the time?" "Its quarter to 9, time to have a bath" "What do you mean? Were already clean-" "Scrub scrub scrub till the waters' brown."
Every year with their calendar release, I come back to watch this video to appreciate how far we've come as species. Makes me grateful and the concept brings unexplainable joy to my mind of starting our calendar 10,000 years before because that's when we truly came together and started terraforming Earth ♥️
The only thing is that we only found a settlement 12,000. But what If there was something older. Who knows how much older stuff simply was badly built?
@@nubeZamurai-mh9pqtrue, but we can only base our estimates and guesses based on the evidence we found. Why knows? Maybe humanity can re-adjust the calendar again in a couple thousand years. The Grand scale of time is glorious and breathtaking isn't it? Optimistic Nihilism 🤘♥️
Here's a life hack: You can make one of those calendars at home, and you'll only need two things. The first is Gregorian calendar, you can find these at your local post office, or general store. The next is some writing implement, I prefer pen, but you can also use raspberry jam if that is all you have.
Jam. Not the electronic jamming, but fruit(this case, raspberry) boiled in sugar and hermetically closed in jars for sweet and for long-term conservation of fruit. As drawing material, it is more dirtying than writing, but may work after some exercise.
Too bad he fucked up some details. The Olmecs lived in Mexico, not South America. Also, most historians and archaeologists doubt the claim that militant "sea peoples" led to the Bronze Age collapse, and it was probably climatological.
*Growing up, I always felt like 2000 years is not enough for mankind's evolution and achievements. So many momentous events were discarded. After watching this, it's all so clear to me now. Thank you.*
I normally don't comment on videos as it obviously gets a little out of hand, but this time I just had to. I'm overwhelmingly extatic about this proposal. Even the "Common Era" which replaces BC & AD is still based on a system that was created for religious purposes by the Vatican. Human history will always be more important than a 'supposed' man's one life, and that's exactly the reason this new calendar must be implemented. Absolutely wonderful video!!! 😁
BCE and CE haven't replaced BC and AD. Maybe you think that because you are part of the very little amount of Atheists in the world. No one cares if your mother taught you that God wasn't real, you can continue to cry with your minority friends because 30% of the world (Christians) will not let this idiocy happen. Our ancestors have perfected this calendar for many many years and you are willing to add a digit 1 before those years? That shows how pathetic and lazy Atheists are, you can't even think of your own calendar LOL! Every document I've ever read used BC and AD because they were published by a certain 30% of the world. Also, stop thinking that Atheists are the "new generation" or the people who are always right. 50% of the world is affiliated with an Abrahamic religion and you guys are slowly becoming a smaller and smaller percentage of the human population. Muslims reproduce very fast and you losers taking pills and abortion is just hilarious. Continue to believe the lies you were told (that BC and AD were replaced by BCE and CE) and why are you living? Ask yourself, an Atheist has no place in life, really what is the point of you living? Can't you just commit suicide? Christians want to live a good life in order to enter the kingdom of God, why do you live?
Even if you aren't religious he was an important figure, he has effected all of human history since. Whether or not he was or was not the son of God, the Messiah, doesn't change how much he influenced history. I don't hear any atheists complaining about how basically everything in our solar system is named after Roman gods, or how the names of Greek and Roman gods have made their way into our scientific vocabulary. I also don't hear any Christians complaining about it. If we change the calendar it should be for better reasons than that atheists want to pretend Jesus wasn't a part of history.
Peter Njeim You can respect Jesus & Christians and still think this calendar is a good idea. Honor Jesus by espousing his teachings, not by making all the calendar dates go around his birthday. Also, the reason most of the world uses that calendar is because of European military power from 1500-1900 (or 11500-11900) - the rest of the world ended up using their language, suit fashion, law systems and calendar no matter which religion it was based on.
Jasper Sapa Are you serious? It would cost millions in re-printing documents, millions in re-producing plaques, all history books would have to be replaced, every piece of education has to be rewritten, all software would have to be updated (which alone would cost billions, both in development costs and fixing errors). Jesus, just look at how difficult it is to keep people on modern operating systems. The military still runs operations on fucking floppy disks. Updating all calendars and equipment in the world would cost at least a trillion dollars. AT LEAST. Not to mention how much time it would cost.
Yeah this whole temple date thing is just another weird arbitrary date. There is undoubtedly an older undiscovered monument. Not to mention that this temple doesn't represent any change in humanity globally. The only reason its being used is because it's 10,000 years before year ""0."" This has gotta be the first Kurzgesagt video that I didn't like.
Jay Gatsby if you think your gonna find another monument older that has hasn't been discovered, your very wrong. Humans have explored almost all of the land mass on Earth, unless we find some kind of structure under water.
+MrMarioman569 We haven't looked everywhere, not even close. We have probably found everything there is to find on the surface but there are a lot of things buried deep in the ground that we still need to find. Then there's the stuff buried off shore under the sea, where most of humanity's history lies.
Other tribes and people that werent under a single banner or from any particular area. Raiders would have been a better term as the invades didnt stay but rather pillaged and left.
The event is called the bronze age collapse, no body is quite sure of the reason behind the sudden collapse of most major bronze age civilizations. A common theory is a group of raiders known as "The Sea People". Other theories include everything from earthquakes to famines.
Both are correct, its just that Before Christ/ Anno Domini is not politically correct, so politicians and publications tend not to use them and instead opt for Before Common Era/ Common Era.
It's that kind of thinking that has got us in this mess. Our species is stupid and delusional. Technology has separated us from nature. We continue to increase that distance through use of 'products'. If we were smart we would be integrated with nature. And evolve slowly together. Who knows where that may take us. It may even open a path to places we cannot even imagine.
Good point! To me it’s a question of which bridge is bigger: the one between nomadic peoples and civilization, or the one between civilization and electronics? Maybe trends in population can indicate the tipping points. I think Star Trek uses the date of the creation of Warp Drive on Earth as its Star Date 0. Who knows!
@@soymoder Electronics is just fancy machinery. No doubt we'll make similar technological leaps in the future. That's no cause to reset the calendar, is it? Start of settled civilization is definitely a more solid candidate.
Semyon Galtsev I agree. If we set it manually, that would be a better candidate. But if you let it happen naturally, it’s more likely given how prevalent this system is that it would become the default. I think it also depends on what the future holds. Technology may in fact become the defining feature of humanity, in which case the birth of computing might be the most significant thing in our history. Or you can think of society as the original computer. Just lots to consider.
Eutropios in order for a government to adopt a calendar, it must be the dominant calendar in use by its citizens. Basically, if you want this to be the calendar we use you just need to start using it and hope it catches on, but since it really doesn't do a better job of telling time than our current calendar, and only changes the date, it's highly unlikely to be widely adopted.
Eutropios it would have to be adopted all over the world, since almost all of the world uses the current calendar. It would take time, and many would refuse to do it, but it would be possible. But still unlikely.

Saying something against a religion or their members isn't racist. Since when was muslim a race. Also there are more than enough depictions of Muhammed warmongering harder than Hitler did.
can you imagine alien archeologists in the future will think they are missing 10k years of human history when they go from 2000s to 12000s all the sudden they would think we had a mass extinction event and had to start over
That's super interesting to think about!! As a kid I remember being soooo confused by the BC AD thing. It's a super abstract concept and makes it way more complicated than it should be.
Well, you'd still need a similar system for pre-human civilization events even with this new proposed calendar. It would just be a lot more simple when learning human history.
I think it's simple enough; this dude everyone claims to worship who basically taught us to not be dicks was alive 2018 years ago... But no one Actually listens to his teachings and everyone pretends he was Anglo.
Yelloh Gezek Yeah, that makes sense. There is another term for it if you aren’t Christian: CE means Common Era and takes the place of AD, and BCE means Before Common Era and takes the place of BC.
When you see that most of the top comments are directed at mocking religious groups, you realize that the audience for which Kurtzgesagt creates their video's isn't progressive at all. Religious debate wasn't even featured in this video. (Atheist btw)
Ah it is very true. I'm Christian wouldn't say hard core ect. But regarding the topic. I genuinely think we should say 12,000 BC/BCE ect. I just think its genuinely an easier thing for people to grasp.
Sam Actually, it's not just liberals that are atheists. Many centrists and some of the alt-right are atheists and/or agnostic. Heck, even some neoconservatives are too.
this wasnt a debate video about existentialism though. It was about admiring the progress of humanity. Religious or not religious is irrelevant. What even is the religious debate for this topic?
As a person who loves science, i really really like this idea; but I think there are major problems that complicate this way of counting years. 1) Everyone is just very very used to it and it would have a great impact around the world I guess. (Good is that it's only a one that needs to be added fortunately.) 2) And this is the biggest one I guess, the fact that a lot of things, churches, buildings, texts etc. have a certain date carved into their walls, or written under the texts, or whatever. Suddenly changing the year count would make it much more difficult to historians, archaeologists and maybe scientist to date certain things. At least that's what I think; if someone think I'm wrong let me know because I would actually be relieved then. Haha
It wouldn't be that difficult for Historians to document the past with the new Holocene calendar. All they'd be doing is adding 10,000 years to the year count. The months and days would remain the same. As far as presenting difficulties for historians and archaeologists is concerned, this difficulty already exists with the Gregorian calendar we currently use. This is because the ancient Greeks and Egyptians for instance, didn't use the Gregorian calendar, they had their own ways of marking time.
Little do creationists know that the Earth is way older. Assuming the life of Jesus Christ in historical terms could be applied to the timeline of the Holocene era, it will be about 9,996 HE when he was born, whilst it would be at around 10,030-10,033 HE when he was crucified. Through that timeline, Jesus appeared between the end of the 9990's to the start of the 10,000's.
We really should switch to this new calendar. I get that the mid point between ce and bce is an important religious time but with the current calendar we are making things much more confusing than they have to be and somewhat neglecting a huge part of history.
Easy, let's implement this calendar to talk about history as a whole, and let's keep the one based on the Birth of Jesus Christ as a "Traditional" or "Classic" one
Except it will make the lives of many people miserable. Imagine all the websites and softwares that accept and work on 4 digit year format. Many frameworks will fail because of the date problem. I dont know how UNIX timestamp will behave. Think about all the past transactions that are stored in database - could be trillions of records as there billions of websites that would need updating..I think popular RDBMS like MySQL dont even support 5 digit format.. I think Its not as simple as adding 1 in front of date. It will be another big mess like Y2k but way way more painful
@@faizan101010 yup, but almost all changes that are beneficial in the long term are harmful in the short term. just like switching to metric, it would cause tons of problems in the short term but overall it will be better in the long term. for the HE calendar it could be hugely important in peacefully bringing the Muslim and Cristian world together without discrimination while promoting a broader perspective on human history. personally I do think this would be a bad idea to implement in the present day because of how controversial it would be but given a decade or so I could see it happening, as society changes it will becomes more scientifically minded with less importance given to Christianity and more Cultures mixing in not wanting there religion to be considered a second class religion I could see this becoming a highly supported Idea
@@thenomad47 It’s kinda horrifying but I work along side people whose numeracy and literacy is really, really bad. Between everyone else’s constant errors anything I chose to add to the paperwork as a means of amusing myself is utterly overlooked.
it's not like if they think that makes a difference you know ,and It's not like they are the ones researching our history, one more thing , what's easier to learn that a war was in 102 BC or 1664 AC or a war was in9800's or 11,600's it's a pure example of a useless idea with no real thought put into it, the kind people joke about getting high
I didn't know about the holocene calendar before watching this video. I really like the idea of switching to it. It definitely makes more sense than using a calendar based on religious events that are meaningful to a limited part of humanity only. It would also lead to a switch to a more universal perspective, consolidating the idea of humanity as a whole
It will stay fixed, in the same way that modern research has shown Jesus was born a few years before year 0. Its the basic concept that is important. It is why the church was so keen on it and does not care if it is technical slightly inaccurate. It is why this concept is such a great idea for a secular and multicultural society.
I just love the idea and spreading it. However I wouldn't call it "Human era" (that begins with humans, and that would be 200,000 or even two million years ago, depending on what you emphasize: species or genus), so I propose here to use instead "ME", standing for either Monumental Era, Megalithic (big stone building) Era or just Mega-Era, what sounds quite cool and modern and may also imply it is an "enlarged" sort of era. BTW, happy and creative 12,017 to all.
this is just the countless attempt to corrupt science with political agenda feminazi and globalist are the worst corrupting science with political agenda is a crime against humanity
Corrupt science with political agenda? Science, in this case, has been corrupted by religion to this day by basing our calendar off a religious figure. And religion is one of the biggest political tools out there.

***** I see.
as an anti-humanist I would oppose the new calendar simply out of spite. I have nothing but hatred for humanist, atheist and all regressives liberals.

Jesus is literally the Beginning and the End...

As an atheist and someone who has zero connection to Jesus or just any "one historical figure," I find this a really cool idea. Those who grew up with the old calendar wouldn't even have to do any math to orientate themselves by the old one, since we'd keep the last 2 digits identical. Not much would change.
the last 4 digits identical
Oh look.. another redditard
i feel kinda sad that people who lived back then never know what humanity has grown into as a species and how we will never know past around 2100 where humanity will go
Famey Though I try not to think about it, you've basically outlined what I often ponder on... yeah, it is very sad, but it's just our natural instinct to be curious.

Hey we can make a religion out of this
I normally don't comment on videos as it obviously gets a little out of hand, but this time I just had to.
Peter Njeim wow... the idiocy in this comment baffles me...
+Peter Njeim
Cool story, Cletus.

Guard13007 its actually completely practical if enough people where to say this makes more sense it would be an easy change
No, it wouldn't. We don't have to go back and change everything, just look at A.D. and say that it was 10k years behind.
You're right, it would take some time... 10,000 years to be precise.

We're founding out more and more about humanities past. Even the out of Africa theory is starting to be challenged.

Both are correct, its just that Before Christ/ Anno Domini is not politically correct, so politicians and publications tend not to use them and instead opt for Before Common Era/ Common Era.
The human species is actually so amazing. Look at everything we've come to create, despite all its flaws

Can we sign a petition to make this happen in the USA or Canada, as it will show the other governments that this is correct?
petitions do nothing to something as standardized as time
Eutropios in order for a government to adopt a calendar, it must be the dominant calendar in use by its citizens. Basically, if you want this to be the calendar we use you just need to start using it and hope it catches on, but since it really doesn't do a better job of telling time than our current calendar, and only changes the date, it's highly unlikely to be widely adopted.
wtf you should maybe start with the metric system before changing the calendar..
Eutropios your fucking dumb theres no need for it just leave it and worry about something more important
Eutropios it would have to be adopted all over the world, since almost all of the world uses the current calendar. It would take time, and many would refuse to do it, but it would be possible. But still unlikely.

This video didn't even mention religion. So you're just trying to stir trouble where it's not needed.
As a person who loves science, i really really like this idea; but I think there are major problems that complicate this way of counting years.
1) Everyone is just very very used to it and it would have a great impact around the world I guess. (Good is that it's only a one that needs to be added fortunately.)
2) And this is the biggest one I guess, the fact that a lot of things, churches, buildings, texts etc. have a certain date carved into their walls, or written under the texts, or whatever.
I mean Also this is a question for historians not necessarily scientists.

it's not like if they think that makes a difference you know ,and It's not like they are the ones researching our history, one more thing , what's easier to learn that a war was in 102 BC or 1664 AC or a war was in9800's or 11,600's it's a pure example of a useless idea with no real thought put into it, the kind people joke about getting high
Right, I'm going back to play Civ 5 again.
White343 Or play civ 6! It's awesome.
No the visual design is fucking atrocious
I prefer Civ 6's visual design over Civ 5's visual design.
No its not.

who else watch this in 12,018 when they reveal the new 12,019 calender?
Same
me
me too
Definitely gotta get one!

I still want to know why the Bronze Age Civilizations all collapsed at the same time. We need to know this!

The year zero is going to be pushed back farther and farther as research continues.
true
It will stay fixed, in the same way that modern research has shown Jesus was born a few years before year 0. Its the basic concept that is important. It is why the church was so keen on it and does not care if it is technical slightly inaccurate. It is why this concept is such a great idea for a secular and multicultural society.
Arthur Tessier by 7 years. Imagine how much seven years from now would mean....
Thanks
Arthur Tessier they never knew the exact year to begin with
There should be a nobel prize for - narration and the narrator of this channel must get one, I've never heard anyone speaking sooo goood... 🙏✌️❤
For 7 whole years he maintained his voice... dont give him a nobel prize! Give him an Oscar!
BTW, happy and creative 12,017 to all.
this is just the countless attempt to corrupt science with political agenda
feminazi and globalist are the worst
corrupting science with political agenda is a crime against humanity
I feel that machonazi and racist is much worse, really. Get lost!
Corrupt science with political agenda? Science, in this case, has been corrupted by religion to this day by basing our calendar off a religious figure. And religion is one of the biggest political tools out there.
TheDoctorOfThrills
yeah, thanks for proving my point.
this whole thing is just a disgusting facade, corrupting science for political agenda. disgusting
sjw are sick people
@Neanderthal: fair enough I guess. We can call it the Humongous or the Huge Stone Era as well: from Göbekli to the Crazy Horse monument.

it's actually the year 13,700,000,017. My calendar starts at the big bang
A calendar for humans being, not for the universe.
Samuel Maucaille we still don't got the accurate # gotta question everything
When the shipping to France for the calendar is more than 50% the price of it
where i live it wants 130$ extra i gona pass
Wow, where do you live for that price? On the moon?
its morocco
That's only if you need it expedited.
Well they are from Germany (i also live in Germany) so let's hope they will make the products available here as well. I'd gladly pay 20% more Euros for it (than dollars), knowing that the money will be used to make more quality videos.
I truly can't put it in words but My only hopes is that this channel and over all its values outlive me and hopefully get way further that the 12221 year of the HUMAN ERA Calendar:)
let's get a universal unit of measurement first.
still cool though
Some countries are just too lazy to adapt. And the US will refuse, due to problems in the manufacturing fields. Canada is currently switching, and had a plane crash because people forgot to convert the measurements for fuel from Imperial to SI.
We already have it but Americans and a few other countries don't
Pranav Nair exactly. The US needs to change
Ben Walters They tried, but just examples such as the Canadair crash were reasons why they're so hesitant to switch. At least they do use SI measurements in fields of science and engineering.
