    I've had mine about 6 months also, same spec as yours with the hand finish. But they don't quite have the same patina, despite wearing them daily. I guess I need to put them to work a bit more! Overall, I've been very happy with them.

  • @Nordic_Sky
    @Nordic_Sky 10 месяцев назад +1

    Comment about sizing. You mentioned your pair has stretched across the vamp and now your toes move too far forward without the additional insole. When I got mine, Brian gave me the option of making them very tight so they would be a perfect fit after stretching out. This proved excellent advice and I don't have that problem. However, when first got them, I could only get my feet into them without socks and wearing a plastic bag. It took many weeks for the leather to relax to the point at which they fit perfectly. Stretching them out wasn't fun. To anyone considering RC Engineers, I would HIGHLY suggest visiting Brian so he can take your measurements. That gives you the best shot at a great fit. Plus, if you haven't seen his shop, you're missing out.

    Nice video as always, Dave.
    Owning both Role Club engineers and Clinch engineers, if I was guaranteed the very best craftsmanship from each bootmaker, I'd go with Clinch for multiple reasons. But the fact is Clinch has been extremely hit or miss for a while now and there's a very low chance of getting issues addressed if you unluckily get a "miss" pair. At least with Role Club, you have a better chance of getting issues addressed. So in the real world, Role Club engineers are the safer pair to drop a shit ton of money on. And of course they're MTM without having to fly to Tokyo.

    I love the brass buckles, but I do have a concern about the long run. Verdigris is a waxy green substance that forms on brass when it is in contact with leather. It's a mess and over time destroys the leather. There is no way to stop it. I wonder if it would have been a better choice (for me) to have chosen chrome buckles, although they would not have looked as good. If Brian is still around way down the road, I suppose he could replace the strap and buckle. But if he isn't available, not sure at that time how I could find someone to do the work. It's a concern of mine because I plan on having these boots for a long time.

  • @noone3734
    @noone3734 Год назад +2

    Unless you were willing to cut those straps off and sew new ones onto the stitched on bits, which would probably end up looking bad, those would be a huge pain to replace. They're stitched on before the backstay and counter pocket, so you'd pretty much have to take the whole boot apart for a full replacement. For those straps to hold up to actual use, I'd think you'd want a heavier weight leather, maybe 6-7oz for CXL, or a veg tan strap would be a better option. They look pretty thin, and if that hole ever goes, you're kinda screwed.

  • @HatchA_Makes...
    @HatchA_Makes... Месяц назад +1

    Chromexcel is a really beautiful leather - probably best suited to jackets and jeans, but in your video it looks incredible!!
    Just my opinion but criticising the wear of the finish after 6 months of hard wear is "interesting".... What I mean by that is that it's more valid with more information - by way of a f'rinstance... Have you been upkeeping the finish with any polish or wax or any conditioner of any kind? Cos I guarantee anyone who takes their footwear seriously is taking better care of them than just leaving them to the elements for 6 months and calling fault where fault is undeserved. (Unless, of course, that's the benchmark by which you guage the quality; in which case, please ignore my critique).
    Again - just my opinion.
    Thank you for your review - it's accurate - in places, and extremely informative overall. Could you shout out those insole/inserts once again? I've not heard of them before.
    Many thanks from Ireland,
    Steve.

    • @thevintagefuture6567
      @thevintagefuture6567  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks for the great comment, Steve! I appreciate you politely offering counterpoints. Regarding the finish, I do beat them up a fair amount but also brush and condition them from time to time. These boots were designed to naturally teacore and show the color underneath over time, and I just thought the overdye could be a little more resilient. That said, it's definitely open to interpretation:) Thanks!
      The inserts are Pedag brand. They make all sorts of inserts. These ones were the Viva ones as I recall.

      Maybe I used the wrong word. What I mean is, he has them made for him with his logo on them (the heel cap). There’s nothing proprietary about the compound itself.
