I think Chile has gone down hill over the last 5 years, it's a shame as it came very close to becoming a true first world country. But open borders policy (which has been curtailed a bit) made it easier for Narcos to get their men in, and their product. Which created more addicts, hence more crime. It was effectively a double whammy effect. And all the crime hurts business which can end up driving them out of town or neighbourhoods which hurts an economy even further.
