Insane. Not like "wicked sick" insane, more like "clinically challenged" insane. But still extremely cool, it's insane in every sense of the term that you guys can come up with stuff like this, this must've took alot of effort, big props.
Thank you and maybe I am a little insane for bringing this to my LGS
If that is insanity, someone grab me a straightjacket
"people at the LGS were more confused than impressed" SMH people can't appreciate art.
The day I can freely follow all of these interactions is the day I win Magic
I think everyone that has seen this needs a demonstration of this deck in action
Maybe that’s a future live stream idea
@@thetrinketmage You absolutely have make a video of taking this behemoth to your LGS
+1, i understoo only half of it
@@MentallyLatent I’ll consider it… problem is setting up the camera and stuff at my lgs
@@thetrinketmagetabletop simulator?
this is what commander is all about
Finally a way to make sure everyone is playing the same power level
As Richard Garfield intended
I honestly havent been playing magic long enough to follow how quickly you go through this, but you and your friends mastery of these interactions is fascinating to listen to
This is definitely not a new player friendly deck! But come back and check out the primer later!
@@thetrinketmage for sure! Your channel inspired me to make my own personalized commander deck for the first time so thanks for that 🫡
i love that "make infinite mana and cast infinite copies of shocks" is like, step one of this process
I like how half of this is dedicated to making everyone play *your* deck exclusively rather than the uno deck itself.
Other content creators do tier lists and deck tune-ups; my boy Trinket Mage is out here reinventing the entire game of Magic.
And I thought my 37 infinite combo Kenny deck is something special 🤯
Sleight of Mind would let you change colors of something on top after a wild card or a draw four.
Ohhhh that’s a great idea
This is MtG's equivalent of Yugioh's Flower Cardian, Amazing.
Tbh, I'd be initially confused as well if this was suddenly dropped on me. This is definitely one of those concept deck lists where you emulate the thing you're basing deck off of rather than something to seriously play at a table as UNO is so easily accessible at stores.
I also built a similar deck called Codie's auction house with Codie as a commander (because he can Tutor for cards with Profane Tutor) trying to reset and lock down the game. Then, the game is "programmed" to flip a random creature every turn and cast Illicit Auction on it. Everyone then fights with the creatures they get, and the board becomes bigger every turn, so that paying life for the auction becomes more and more risky. Lifelink creatures are very good
If I ever get rich, this is going ip there with the Turing Complete MtG deck in terms of weird unplayable piles I want to buy
I've read a couple years ago in a math research paper that mtg can be set up to be a Turing machine. The authors did an AMA on reddit at the time. I think they'd be very interested in your work if you want to share it with them. From what I understand, this is somehow a proof that 4 player UNO is contained into 4 player edh.
You'd have to implement the "say UNO when only one card in hand" but this should be possible somehow with allowing unsets and gotcha mechanics.
I saw the Turing machine deck it’s very cool! And yea hopefully those who made it will see my video I bet they’d get a kick out of it
I mean if they don't say uno you just have kenny draw them cards
Kyle Hill made a video about it
@@thetrinketmage You can contact them. Researchers are used to getting emails from random people to show them stuff, they won't think it's weird.
Their turing machine doesn't allow for inputs (or for any player to make any choice ever) while it's running, can only allow one player to win with the other outcome being a draw caused by an infinite loop, and I think it only works with two players, so you'd need to play an entire game of Magic to simulate every turn and somehow use the final board state to represent the game state. Plus, it doesn't really allow for hidden information, so you'd need a third party to run those games and give the uno players the information they're allowed to have every turn. Basically, the machine can only store the game state and evaluate the legality and outcome of moves. There's also no good way to implement the rule about saying uno in this system. I do definitely think the creators of the mtg turing machine or any of its predecessors would appreciate this though.
Pretty sure my pod would exile me if I tried to pull this off🤣
What? They don’t like Uno?
@@thetrinketmage Kenrith and infinite mana and you’re not gonna close out the game🤣🤣🤣 I do love to see what u come up with though.
I've actually been working on a format that basically works like this, without the setup, so this is really cool to see
A format where everyone draws from one deck?
@@thetrinketmage Everyone plays from one deck and during each player's end step they may cast any card as though it had flash and without paying it's mana cost if it shares a color or has the same mana value as the last card to be put in the graveyard, or draws a card. If at any time a player has no cards in hand they win the game
@@Lismakingmovie I'd love to see a list for this if you have it
Honestly I love this, I'd love to see more absolutely insane stuff like this
You should turn mtg into Yahtzee next
That might be possible
I'm glad you mentioned channeling because recently I made a Gandalf, Westward Voyager (the Simic one that cares about 5+ MV spells) deck that uses a ton of channel/cycle creatures. A lot of them are above 5 mana so they trigger Gandalf when hard cast, but we also have a ton of delve and big spells that are reduced by the number of creature cards in your graveyard so we can get multiple Gandalf triggers while paying very little actual mana. Not to mention we're using convoke, undaunted, evoke, emerge, etc., basically every trick in the book to get as many 5+ MV spells as possible on each of our turns. Each individual spell might not be as crazy as some other simic big mana decks (aside from the delve extra turn spell that will never not be wild, especially if gandalf copies it), but it's better at not immediately drawing arch enemy attention, it feels more durable than hail marying singular big dumb casts, and, as one of my opponents put it once, it feels like I always have an answer to everything.
Okay, there is now one net deck that I don't think my game store's owner will hate.
Augh. I spent like 40 minutes reading that Reddit thread and broke my brain just barely trying to comprehend it. Now I think I almost understand the post.
Blow my mind with this one, if some one done this in a game I would be so amazed, 10/10 deck
I love the videos, your discord, and your patreon. However, if anyone ever brought this deck out in my pod, it would insta win through concessions.
And I respect that
Tell me dear viewer, at what point did you realize that all that he was saying just went into one ear and then got out from the other ? For me it was around minute 8
Around minute 5 I lost the thread.
Finally a good game
Okay, this is pretty damn great. I'm sure there are lots of other card games you can simulate with the same basic engine as well.
I need to see this played!
I have a couple questions. I probably missed stuff.
8:55 "If any player doesn't have the ability to play something that will trigger thought prision, ... they have to draw a card by atacking with Medomai, and they keep drawing until they play somthing"
What prevents the players from playing things that don't trigger the prision, are they supposed to play into it only because it is optimal?
What forces them to attack if they don't play anything?
How is Medomai's extra turn limitation avoided so that they can take more than two turns?
First two questions: Yeah, I guess the assumption is that they are still trying to win and only make plays that lead them towards winning.
Third question: Trinket Mage explained this weirdly. In UNO, if you can't play (or choose not to), you get to draw a card, and then you can play the card you drew if possible, but if not, then you just pass your turn. In this case, you either play, or draw with Medomai and then play, or draw with Medomai and then can't play, so you pass. You only get to 'keep drawing until you play something' in terms of several rounds of the turn order, if that makes sense?
@@lucasriddle3431 I see, that part was explained weirdly indeed.
In that case, if I understand properly, if another player doesn't have anything to play, nothing forces them to attack, right? They are free to pass turn without drawing. I'm not dure drawing would always be on their best interest.
@@cerocero2817 Correct. I'm not sure when it would ever be a good idea to not attack, though.
Furthermore, this could be remedied with any of the Impetus enchantments or a few other Auras that exist in the game that can goad enchanted creature. That would obligate the player to attack with Medomai, unless they cast a spell (with Angelic Arbiter still preventing them from doing both).
This is by far the coolest mtg combo I've ever seen, and I've seen a LOT of weird ones.
Im halfway through and I don't have the slightest clue wtf is going on lmao, this is bananas
"First, make infinite mana."
I get that this is pretty standard behavior for a lot of combo decks, but show this to someone who is new to MTG.
This vid is definitely not new player friendly… but hopefully some experienced players can enjoy it
This is a deck a Cenobite would play.
3 things.
1:This is amazing. Thankyou.
2:have you seen the uno amalgum videos where someone is putting all the rules from every different uno game into one game?
3:Can we do that in magic too?
I didn't fully understand everything but this is kinda crazy and hilarious. Good stuff 👍
I’d love to see more about your channel control deck
I might make a vid about all my current decks or something
Cool concept. However i dont think ill every jump through all the hoops to acomplish this. Planning on making any other games using mtg?
Not as of now... but maybe if I can figure one out I will make a follow up!
I made a Bobblehead Deck with Brudiclad.
Already won with Luck Bobblehead 3 times.
Make 42 Luck Bobbleheads and let the dice roll!
That’s awesome! I have yet to see a bauble head deck
@@thetrinketmage Honestly you need lots of tutors, token makers and protection so counterspells galore.
Then it works out fine and the whole table will look at you like you're crazy for turning Mtg into D&D for a turn :P
I need to see this deck played
This is a pretty cool idea
What an interesting lockout deck. It would be a shame if someone were to... Interact with it.
Well yea… presumably once you have infinite mana they won’t be able to do anything cause they would’ve interacted with the infinite mana combo
There is an academic paper of making magic a Turing machine, which means it's definitely doable to encode an Uno
As someone who ran a Tasigur deck with a Mastermind's Acquisition into a Battle of Wits wincon, I followed this no problem. I LOVE the convoluted nature of this deck, but this one goes too far for me personally. Anytime one of my decks(or deck concepts) gets to a point where I think I would not have fun if I were to play against it I generally scrap it.
God this is so insane. I'd love to see something else as well.
I've had a crazy idea for a while of a deck that plays like a colony sim ( i.e manor lords) where you play farmland, have farmers and the like, or have training grounds for soldiers, alchemy to study science and etc. havent even started to figure it out tho
This was so cool
This is amazing video
Can't wait for One With Nothing to get added to the Uno Amalgam
I put this in the category of Kyle Hill's deck that actually works as a computer. Pretty thought provoking, pretty far out there - and just proves the complexity of Magic compared to other tabletop games.
Your opponents could just never choose to give you the cards back with Tasigur and cause you to deck yourself, but you'd probably be playing with friends so that'd be shitty, and also you can threaten them with infinite shocks.
That's wild
YO IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH A JESKA GOAD DECK LETS GO
I have a four player box where any of the two decks interact with each other and confess some creature. Lots of fun.
🤣🍻 Hectic! What happens if you don't say UNO?
shock four of their tokens and kenrith to draw them 2 cards?
you beat me to the answer!
“Yea I scooop”
Need a demonstration of this deck
There is one deck that might be the most complicated, the sub game deck. It is a commander deck designed to imitate shahrazad using only legal cards. There is the Turing complete deck but that isn’t commander
The second I saw thought prison it finally clicked, but my GOD
Weird idea for the wilds, would painters servant work since to set up the combo to begin with you need Venser, Shaper Savant. So every time someone plays a wild you can put painters servant into your hand they say the color of their choice and since you have Vedalkan Orrery you can cast it at instant speed and name the chosen wild color, and while the wild is the top card it will be the chosen color. Additionally if once someone plays the right color from the wild you can blink painters servant and then the game can resume. As if a wild was played. I personally think wild cards should be wastes so when the player plays the wild it is now the waste is now the chosen color without any additional color identity! If someone try’s to play a spell of the wrong color you can just end their turn with the blue card I forgot the name of lol and horse them to draw 2 with Kenrith idk if this would work or not but It just popped into my head lol. P.S a fun rule would be if you don’t call uno and someone else says it first you force them to draw 2 with Kenrith.
This is so fuckin funny I love this
5:43
SO, wait, if I'm getting this right-
You play Nevermore naming whatever
then Fractured Identity targeting Nevermore
then Fractured Identity, again and again, targeting your opponent's token Nevermores to give you a triplet of commander-denying token Nevermores
BUT if your opponents name Fractured Identity when they receive their Nevermores, you instead have to use Deadeye Nav to flicker Venser to get rid of that troublesome Nevermore, and you can proceed with Fracturing the Identities of the other Nevermores.
Now, if only one opponent does this, that's fine. But if every opponent names Fractured Identity, with every Nevermore they receive, the combo stops here. You get stuck in an infinite loop of giving your opponents Nevermores, retrieving your own from exile, getting rid of all their troublesome Nevermores, then giving them more. But per the game rules, you, the active player, are obligated to break this loop, i.e., by... um, doing something else.
SO (assuming your opponents understand this interaction) this combo doesn't work without at least ONE opponent's consent.
...of course, they could've long since conceded, so, you need their consent anyway... but, I just wanted to point this out I guess.
and now I watched the rest of the video.
I kind of lament how much action you have to put in to make the game work. It would be cool if we could automate it further. However, 'whenever a player casts a spell, bounce that spell, then bounce Thought Prison', is a tall order to piece together out of magic cards. 'Whenever a player draws a card, kill two of their tokens' might be more doable. Dealing with the extra soldiers created by Medomai damage also is probably doable.
Also, I'm not sure you understand this, but YOU are not playing UNO in this case, only acting as a sort of 'game master'. Shared Fate replaces your draws with pseudo-draws from opponents' libraries, and since all your opponents' libraries are empty, you aren't drawing any cards at all. ...Unless I guess you bounce Shared Fate in your upkeep every time your turn comes around, so you can draw normally, then put it back down during your main phase. OK, wait, nevermind, that works, my bad.
Yes you are correct about everything! The never more thing does require some cooperation from opponents but so does this whole thing so it really doesn’t matter! And yea just bounce the shared fare so you can draw from your own deck
*Marty voice* isn't that just UNO with extra steps?
*Rick voice* Yup, that's the point, way to pay *buuurp*ahh-ttention, Morty
I have a yidris deck thats mostly donates and beneficial for opponent spells. It offers a choice, would you like the benefit of the spell I have in hand/on the field, or do you want the mystery box! As if I hit them I cascade into something.
This is the MtG equivalent of an Arbitrary Code Execution TAS
I'll be honest, I think it would be easier to program a PC from scratch than to both make this deck and actually manage to pull it off in an actual game of Magic.
Well I know what I'll bring to game night lmao
Hey, i have a pretty intresting question. Could you build this deck with 4 colors? Kenrith and infinite mana would basically allways win you the game on the spot, so that could be a feelbad so some players. Could you run this with 4c under thrasios and tymna? There are barely any red cards you need for the combo so maybe it could work, and thrasios will work to draw the whole deck like you need!?
This is crazy lmfao
I'm a little dissapointed that the game requires a lot of manual upkeep from you in order to work. I feel like if you have to do so many game actions to enforce the rules of Uno and they aren't just enforced automatically, you might as well say "we'll play a game of uno, and I'll give the win to whoever wins it"
I mean, it's pretty cool that at least the opponent's choices can be forced with this, but I think it'd be a lot more interesting if even your decisions were forced so that the game became effectively automatic. Like how that Turing machine deck stops both players from playing the game, and once the combo has been fully set up it can't be stopped.
Yea I wonder how well you can make this automatic but with the way the uno pile works it’s really hard to do that. Maybe if we get something that flickers a creature whenever anyone casts anything?
yeah it would definitely be a whole lot harder to do. not sure if it'd be possible.
If there was some way to modify the Turing machine setup to allow player choices in some way, I suppose you would be able to use this to technically "emulate" a game, but this honestly might be harder since you'd also need to somehow add hidden information and randomness and stuff, and i'm not sure if that's really possible (and even if it was, you of course can't practically resolve the game at all at this point, since its basically running a full computer program by hand)
The core of this that actually does allow the color/number matching and hands is pretty cool though.
One consideration might be that you could create something where instead of forcing a player to do something, you can just threaten it? So if you weren't able to have a "whenever you cast a spell, flicker target creature" but create "whenever you cast a spell, you may flicker target creature... if you don't you lose the game" this would be effectively as good.
Some ideas...
this would conflict with some things about the current pile but it's one way you might start to make it automatic
You control a Thassa's Oracle (play it when there are cards in your deck so you don't win.)
Each opponent controls a Flameshadow Conjuring (whenever a creature enters under their control, they can pay a red to make a token copy)
and, an Esix, Fractal Bloom (the first time they make tokens, they can have those tokens copy target creature)
You'll also need to give the ability to bounce the spells to your opponents somehow. Will need to ensure this doesn't offer them any other options (you can probably use copies of a hexproof aura to restrict access to certain pieces which could cause them to break out of the lock)
Now, if the entire Uno deck is creature spells, a player is forced to bounce the spell back to your hand (since otherwise, it will resolve, and the player who cast it can create a copy of Thoracle and win)
Each player will control a 1/1 which must attack if able. (This does break the current either attack or cast a spell but not both dynamic). Then each player will also have a 2/1 creature which creates a token on death. (Just pick any combination of creatures and auras which give these abilities)
You control an Ensnaring Bridge. Once the cast card has been bounced back to your hand, this will make their creature, a 1/1, able to attack now, and since it must attack, and must attack into the 2/1, this is bad. If the 2/1 is allowed to block, it will turn into Thassa's Oracle and win the game for an opponent. So that player is now forced to blink your Thought Prison as the only way to get the card out of your hand.
Issues with this idea that will need to be fixed:
1) Removed the way to check whether the player wins with Epic Struggle (since the opponents can't create any creatures or else they'll win) So you need another way. But Epic Struggle was janky and required a lot of manual upkeep, there's gotta be an easier way of telling whether a player has no cards in hand. Similar to how the Ensnaring Bridge works here?
2) Removed the eitehr attack or cast a spell dynamic. Not sure how to fix this one but there's probably another way to do it. You could still have other attackers which are forced to attack in some way to affect things, as long as they were like 0/3 in stats.
3) You can avoid casting a spell in your precombat main and instead cast in postcombat main. But we already had an issue where there's nothing forcing you from casting a spell (with attack/cast a spell rule) and nothing forcing you to cast a spell that actually triggers the thought prison. I'm thinking that if you had a trigger at the beginning of your combat step that made you gain 2 life, and if you ever went above 20 life you lost the game (there's a card that does this, but it also gives a lifegain trigger on losing life... is there a way to disable this trigger?), this would force you to either cast a relevant spell, or activate some activated abilitiy which will lose you 2 life and make you take an extra turn as before.
4) Need to ensure that the opponents having access to the bounce/blink combo to prevent wins won't allow them to break the system somehow. I think this is pretty doable with hexproof on most things, but one problem could be that a player might blink Thought Prison when there were no cards in hand. At this point it's no longer possible for anyone to play anything, so perhaps you could build in something to where if nobody can play anything for long enough, you win by default, and so the players can't do this.
5) All the Uno cards in your deck now need to be creatures. This doesn't pose problems except that it will hurt your consistency (you won't be able to use cards like spell-based tutors / fast mana in these cards to try and power out the combo). But this was already not a deck built to be competitive, so whatever.
6) I'm not sure if this was already the case, but I'm not sure if you'll be able to play the Uno game since a lot of things rely on you winning if the other players don't follow the rules. But I feel like that was already true (or at least, you had to do so much upkeep and you could very easily cheat the game at any time before)
maskwood nexus/conspiracy/adaptive adaptation/rukarumel + moonmist + isochron scepter + double faced cards
Yup, it pretty fun actually. But in reality, it kind of hard to complete it, since others might counter/remove your uno pieces or infinite mana stuff
Hey, I saw on another video that you are still on JVP storm and have been since 2016. A lot of the lists online are outdated, I was wondering if you had an updated list as after 5 years I finally got the promo for the card as a birthday gift, and as a long time legacy high tide enjoyer, as well as a huge fan of jace and his story I wanted to build the deck. I have a low power superfriends deck where I just play every card that mentions jace and some cool lore moments for him on cards, I have a higher power version with more synergy with the commander and some generic commander staples, but I was wondering if you had a full CEDH list up somewhere
Here is my current list!

Actually programmed another game inside of Magic the Gathering
Still not as bad as someone resolving sharazad
Less ridiculous (Big surprise), but I play Brago, King Eternal as a Combo deck
my head hurts
eight thousand dollars. . . just to play uno
I would recommend using proxies please don’t buy dual lands for this deck
Question...... can you build this inside of a shahrazad?
this is so unnecessary. i freaking love it. the funniest thing is if someone manages to force the actions so no player input is needed after a point this would count for the first game programmed into magic. even this is unreal and it reminds me of how the Turing complete deck works. i would try to make it but the card that is used as an alt command is coalition victory which is banned in commander. i think that everything else is available just like here.
We wanna see you play this
Maybe one day I’ll do it as a stream
I wonder what other game yoi could turn magic into
At what point in this video do you reestablish your library so you don't lose the game to Wheel of Fortune (7:40)?
Before it resolves discard your hand to the crown of madness then flicker the guy who shuffles in your graveyard
Wait is Commander Turing complete?
Actually Glamerdye would work too.
Commander players hate this one simple trick!!
Tasty
Can't they deck you after Shared Fate with Necropotence?
No, necro skips the draw step and shared fate only replaces drawing cards. They can only exile their own cards, which are gone. Necro prevents the players from decking themselves
Doesn‘t Medomai only make them draw one card and not cards until they can play something?
Because the second line of text stops it from attacking on extra turns, specifically to avoid this kind of combo.
Next, Uno with no illegal choices, like that Turing machine that someone built. All players must take the actions they’re supposed to, including you.
Oh can I combine the Turing Machine and the Uno deck?
Could you not just copy omniscience for all you opponents as a substitute for the infinite mana rather then copy all the mana rocks?
True but then I need to add omniscience to the deck while we already need mana rocks in the deck
Let's be real. Your pod scooped ages ago.
But could we make this all forced game actions, instead of having a "uno rules enforcer" after everything is set up?
As far as I could tell no. There isn’t a way to do the uno pile without it being manual
Sorry but if you have me dead to rights im not sitting through this. Cool idea though
A lot of people had that same opinion which I respect
Magic is cool in that you COULD do this. But subjecting strangers to this without telling them what you’re doing and having them consent seems like an extreme unforeseen tedium. Sure play it against your friends maybe once but it’s seriously a pain. Like cool flex, you can make Magic into Uno in a commander game. But come on, strangers’ time matters too.
probably better to do this with friends who are down with it, cant expect random others to know exactly how this works
This is a lot of effort just to have your opponents scoop on you when you have inifinite mana and destroy their hand or board state 😂😂
