It's hard to imagine such a beautiful and beloved person not having been able to receive treatment and having to suffer so deeply. Heartbreaking, as her talent was enormous. ❤
This story is so tragic. I feel sorry for them both. As someone struggling with mental health, my husband is my "Olivier", wishing to ease my pain, wishing to see me healthy, and powerless to do anything but watch it all unfold. I feel sorry for Vivien Leigh as they had no way to help her mental health. So tragic
Vivien Leigh was never given the help she so desperately needed with her condition, as would be done today. She would write letters to those she had hurt or embarrassed during her episodes. Her miscarriages were her tragedy- she wanted to be a mother and was kinder to Tarquin Olivier than his father was. She is greatly undervalued as a stage actress, she was remarkable in everything she did.
Vivien Leigh was gorgeous looking but very unlucky with her mental health problems and TB while entertaining British troops in North Africa, she was a terrific actress and if she had been able to make more films, she would have been up there with the greats if not the best so sad.
@@Steve-km3nt Quite true, she was very immature when she had Suzanne. Later she tried to make amends and became close to her and her father, Leigh Holman.
One correction. Jack Merivale and Vivien Leigh never married, although they were together for the rest of her life after her marriage to Olivier ended.
@Age of Vintage, thankyou for posting part two of their tragic love affair between Sir Laurence Olivier & the exquisite Vivien Leigh. I think she was very brave to try & continue her acting career, knowing full well she had Tuberculosis in one lung. Just everyday living would be a wrench on her health, without studying for movies, costume fittings, learning her lines etc. Her bi polar disease also took a huge toll on her health, it's like living with a Jekyll and Hyde, because when she flew off into one of her tirades, the next day she would beg Olivier for his forgiveness, as she just couldn't remember. He was so in love with her, he always forgave her, til the next time. The tragic loss of her two Miscarriages almost tipped her over the edge as she desperately wanted to have a child. Even though they finally parted ways & got divorced, they still had a special invisible thread that bound them together. I don't think they ever fell out of love with each other, they just couldn't live together anymore. A tragic end to a beautiful love story. So very sad as she was still so young. Vivien Leigh: An Intimate Portrait Book: amzn.to/2Q20ozk Vivien Leigh's mystique was a combination of staggering beauty, glamour, romance, and genuine talent displayed in her Oscar-winning performances in Gone With the Wind and A Streetcar Named Desire. For more than thirty years, her name alone sold out theaters and cinemas the world over, and she inspired many of the greatest visionaries of her time: Laurence Olivier loved her; Winston Churchill praised her; Christian Dior dressed her. Through both an in-depth narrative and a stunning array of photos, Vivien Leigh: An Intimate Portrait presents the personal story of one of the most celebrated women of the twentieth century, an engrossing tale of success, struggles, and triumphs. It chronicles Leigh's journey from her birth in India to prominence in British film, winning the most-coveted role in Hollywood history, her celebrated love affair with Laurence Olivier, through to her untimely death at age fifty-three in 1967. Author Kendra Bean is the first Vivien Leigh biographer to delve into the Laurence Olivier Archives, where an invaluable collection of personal letters and documents ranging from interview transcripts to film contracts to medical records shed new insight on Leigh's story. Illustrated by hundreds of rare and never-before-published images, including those by Leigh's “official” photographer, Angus McBean, Vivien Leigh: An Intimate Portrait is the first illustrated biography to closely examine the fascinating, troubled, and often misunderstood life of Vivien Leigh: the woman, the actress, the legend.
Experiencing blackouts is totally normal for bipolar. I sadly have it maybe that’s how I feel connected to Lady Vivien. Ever since seeing GWTW…..felt I knew I knew her”😊😊.
Depression and mania are a living hell! I cannot imagine what you would feel like as a famous person! What incredible stress plus the suicide comes and goes but I understand paranoia.i check my door sometimes few times , think I see things before I was treated….or when I’m lacking sleep.
Vivien Liegh was a staunch private woman who believed in the institution of marriage. As a child she showed a remarakable means of self restraint in her moral behavior. I read her autobiography about 6 times because of her fascinating upbringing and the rigid times of upper English breeding may have played an interesting and intriguing patho as she declined in her mental illness. How great of a talent and irresistible beauty that all those virtues and tumultuous moral restrictions only added to her great mistique and huge mental and physical BEAUTY. SHE IS AND ALLWAYS BE A FACINATING FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH TO THE VERY END OF HER BRILLIANT CAREER.🌟🔥❤️
JACK MERIVALE BECAME HER GREAT FREIND AND CONFIDENT. How BRILLIANT THAT WAS EVEN FOR THOSE DAYS OF RESTRAINT AND VIRTUES WOMAN OF HER STATURE WERE TO BE CRUCIFIED...... MISS. Liegh only married twice. Those countless affairs that have been chronicled even in those manic days must be respected for only Miss. Liegh knew her truths and silently took them to the BIGGEST STAGE IMAGINABLE. Sir Larry was her great love but should have a clamp on his lips when he told the world that a great athlete need not be so in BED. I found that to be distasteful and not respectable of such a great WOMAN WITH THE IMPETOUS HEART OF A CHILD. VIVIEN LIEGH LOVED HIM WITH EVERY FIBER OF HER SOUL! 🤧🙏🏼🙇🏻♂️❤️
This is the loveliest romance ever witnessed on earth. Both Viv and Larry are both my heroes and the only figures of historic talent and true beauty not to be forgotten and forever praised for the truest love we in modern times can enrich our lives with the essence of true love. I love Lady Vivien Leigh and Sir Lawrence Olivier.❤️

One of the most passionnate, interesting, exciting, couple of the golden age of Hollywood alongside Liz and Dick, then Ava and Frank !!
True! 🙂
This couple was not Hollywood.they are London in England stage actor.
@@Dpb-236 I agree
Super video, thanks.
Thank you very much! ❤️ Have you seen the part 1?
They’re one of my favorite couples. So sad she is different in real life than my expectations 😞
It is a really sad story! Thank you for your comment!
Come on Vivien Leigh suffered.
Mental health problems and sometimes did not know lookwhat she was doing give her a brake
Laurence was really magnetic, I also couldn't resist, because he was young and even middle aged, he was passionate.
