    My £1000 Klim jacket failed the waterproof test last year

    We have become the Marketing mens dream
    Keep doing what your doing as you do it well

    Great summary guys! As regards parking, we were visiting our son and his wife earlier this year in Naples (didn’t like it, nothing like Rome) where he was posted in the army (we were flying, not on bikes). On our last day, Sunday, we had a pretty late flight so we went into Naples and our son parked the car in an underground car park he knew, saying we’d be back at 4.30. The car is left in the middle of the entrance with the keys and the attendant parks it, presumably with an eye to times. When we got back the car park was locked and secured like Fort Knox. Bugger we thought, no way we’ll get our flight! Turns out they forgot to tell us the place closed for the afternoon, but was meant to reopen at 5.30. Fortunately the attendant was on time and we got our flight, though had to pay extra for speedy security, but it’s left me very cautious of Italian underground car parks!

    • @ontheroadadventure
      @ontheroadadventure  9 месяцев назад +1

      That’s pretty horrible experience you had! Napoli is a bit different and I think it is even more dangerous although we never been there on bikes, we usually tend to avoid big cities when riding so maybe that’s why we were so cautious when finding this particular parking garage in Rome.
      Italians just have different approach to everything, very laid back !

    yeah sena's are utter garbage in the wet, we have had the cardo packtalk edge now for just over a year and been through some horrendous weather in scotland and they are full voice activated which is great the only downside is the radio function randomly turns on for no reason but you just say hey cardo radio off and job done. the range on them is fantastic got a mile apart from each other before they started to break up voice noises and they re connect soo fast is great though. its been a great series you have done and been great to watch and learnt alot which will come in handy for our next europe tour

    Interesting watching your travels. Nicely edited together. The French toll booths used to have a few booths that were actually manned and we always headed to them on the bikes. No option for that now.
    That tunnel fire was one of the reasons I wouldn't ride through the Mont Blanc tunnel. I actually worked on some of the trailers recovered from that fire, and it was so intense that it buckled main I beams of the 36 tonne trailers.
    Carol and I use Cardo Packtalk Bold to chat to each other on our vids. Work in torrential rain.

      It would be handy if there was at least one human on the tolls! But glad we made it all fairly okay. The thought of the tunnel fire gives me chills! We only spoke about it after the ride and Im pretty sure we would not go there if we done the research beforehand. That’s some experience and a story to tell after working on the trailers from that tragic event!
      I like your audio on your videos! Have you connected your Cardo to your GoPro and recorded both conversations or separate rode mics ? We had Sena connected to record everything that goes through sena which in theory was great but because of the problems and cracking noise and sadly a lot of sound was unusable.

    • @Banditmanuk
      @Banditmanuk 9 месяцев назад +1

      @ontheroadadventure We have an unconventional set up as Carol doesn't like wearing a helmet cam. We use the Cardo to chat and have separate microphones plugged into Rode wireless Go2 senders fixed to the helmet. We merge the two audios and record them onto our b roll camera which is an Insta 360onex2.
      I just sync up my helmet footage to the b roll audio in the edit. If we go out of the wireless range I can still use the emergency audio track off the sender.
      Problem is the set up isn't great in heavy rain!
      We do occasionally get some interference on the audio, possibly from the Cardo but we can generally work around it.

    Just watched the vid on my TV box and can only comment through my phone...great round up of your last tour you two. Love your honesty and teamwork. I can recommend RUKKA GORETEX PRO outfits. I've had 3 Rukka outfits over 24 years. I still have my original drop liner outfit and it's still in great condition , well looked after and done thousands of miles. My second outfit was a bit of a snug fit after I put some weight on so I sold it. Then bought my RUKKA Cosmic outfit in 2013 and I'm still using it in all weathers to this day. Never got any leaks or broken zips, use the correct wash and proofers and they'll last year's. I use RST WP2 Adventure boots, thick soles on them and on my second pair now after wearing the first pair out after 3years of 18k miles a year and loads of walking too. I use a few gloves for different conditions, Dainese 1080 Universal Goretex/leather gloves, rukka virium2 Goretex gloves, rukka forsair gloves. Sealskinz waterproof balaclava, Shoei neotech2 helmet with SRL2 built in comms.i use halvarssons light merino wool base layers, rukka mark thermal base layers, icebreaker medium weight merino wool base layers, bridgegate merino wool socks both lightweight and medium weight. Ive been riding motorcycles since I was 11yrs of age, I'm 62 now, done all the long hair and custom bikes stuff back in the day, open face helmets, plastic bags for waterproofs, hobnail boots, sleeping bags and a black bin bag for camping etc etc..then I got sensible and discovered heated grips..lol.

    Goretex laminated textiles are a game changer. I bought Klim Carlsbad which were the most cost effective at the time at about £1200 two years ago. They have never leaked in about 20k miles, and combined with the occasional use of a heated vest, transform winter riding.
    Best money I have ever spent t on bike gear. Its no fun when you are piss wet through and freezing.
    I was always very cynical of manufacturers that claimed 100% waterproof boots and gloved, but the goretex equipment I bought at the same time as my suit has been perfect.

    The French Telepeage or the Italian Telepass and other similar services usually charge €2/month if only used for one country (say France) or €4 if also activated for other European countries (Spain, Italy, Portugal). You only get charged the admin fee on the months you're using it and the toll gets charged directly to your card.

      We don't know if the boots were wet because of few days in the rain and not having enough time or means to dry them up? until this trip we never had the issue with them so we suspect the rain was just too much. Also we would recommend for you to get SEALSKINZ waterproof socks just in case you are riding for days in the rain. We think editing on the road is possible but when you go for longer and take your time having shorter days. Apparently it is possible to do it all on a phone but we never done it this way.
