Like others say, you don’t need the card if you already have a Thai bank account, just transfer funds via the Wise App. I use the card if travelling to another country, then it can be handy, also the first £200 is free of any transaction charges per month! Also Wise pay interest when money is kept in there interest account!

For US accounts it's only US$100. Americans can sign up for 4.85% apr interest (Brits don't get interest).

Don't really see the need for it. I use the wise app to transfer money from US bank account to Thai bank account. I use my Fidelity debit card to withdraw money at ATMs in Thailand with no foreign transaction fee. The local fee imposed by the Thai bank is reimbursed to me by Fidelity. Much easier than dealing with another card.

Do you have to pay taxes on the money you transfer into your Thai bank account?

Hey Mike, can you please make a Video about the Tax Situation in Thailand. Thailand wants everyone staying 180 days or longer to declare taxes starting this year.

The wise card is very handy if you haven't yet opened a bank account if the country you are in or are travelling.
You can open and close multi currency accounts quickly and convert money from your default currency to local ones.
You can even specify that you want to convert to a local currency but have it wait until the exchange rate is above a certain level that you tell it to get the best rate when it is fluctuating.

You can use it in a Thai ATM, but you still need to pay/incur the Thai bank ATM fee. Better to transfer funds from Wise to your Thai bank and withdraw from Thai bank. No feed and if anything goes wrong, you can deal with that locally in Thailand.

    • @AbroadInThailand

Yes you are correct. It's still necessary to pay the 220 Baht surcharge fee at the ATM 🤦‍♂️

I'm coming to Koh Samui pretty soon. I've heard that if I don't want to pay atm fees it's better to go to bank and get cash from my revolut card. Can you tell me where I should go because there are mostly atm banks and nkt a real bank. I found one Bangkok Bank but nothing on lamai beach where I' ll stay

Not clear where is the money you withdraw coming from ? Directly the US account or some kind of balance ? Is this card basically linked to a wise bank account ? Not clear but eager to find out more !

      @juliencourtel2930 3 месяца назад +1

The card is linked to your Wise account that is multicurrencies. The change of currency is calculated automatically when you withdraw so you can have US dollars and withdraw Thaï Baht if you want. 👌

I have no idea honestly. But the Wise app lets me transfer instantly to most Thai Bank accounts with just the name, account number and bank, extremely handy if you lose your card / it gets eaten by an ATM. It's definitely faster than sending directly from US / UK etc.

@@hugobrun_art You transfer money into your wise account from your bank account (regardless of what country that is in). Once the money is in Wise you can convert to other currencies (over 150 options) and then use those funds in a variety of ways such as withdrawing from an ATM, transferring to your foreign bank account, another individual or company (like Venmo or Zelle), or touchless payment (you can link it to both Apple Pay and Google Pay). In Mexico as well as other countries you can pay your bills (electricity, internet, gas, etc) directly from the Wise App. There are other ways to go about all these things but the real advantage of Wise is the incredibly competitive exchange rates/fees you get relative to most other options.

Great card but not the best option in the real world as there is a monthly limit you can withdraw at atm. Think it’s just $350 odd dollars per month. Not much at all.

Not sure. I've had a Wise card for 9 months but haven't used it yet. Plan on using it for travel within SE Asia starting next month. My understanding is the limit is whatever is on your card BUT (contrary to Mike's video) only the first US$100/month of withdrawals is free of transaction fees (the Brits get 200 pounds Sterling).

Apparently the favourable exchange rates wise offers more than makes up for the transaction fees.

I use to like wise a lot for sending money abroad, but now I've had multiple transactions and my funds frozen/locked when sending money to Thailand for no reason at all. They then request intrusive personal information about myself, my job, money, etc etc etc. Very frustrating when you are expecting an instant transaction and then have to gather documents and wait days for no reason at all...

Wise pissed me off by canceling my still valid card and then refused to send me a new card to Thailand! I am using the electronic version but I still know that when I travel I will have issues with withdrawing money from Cash machines in local currency!

@@AbroadInThailand the card was from the uk, apparently they don't like cards being sent here and destroy them. Weird seeing as if they are doing themselves out of money. Only way round it is to get the card sent to someone in the UK and they disguise the card when sending to Thailand
