I don't have to deal with exchanging physical cash. I put all my cash into a (free) Charles Schwab checking account. When I need to get baht cash, I just go to any ATM and withdraw a small portion as needed. All the ATM fees I get charged for using a out of network bank gets refunded at the end of the month. Additionally withdrawing in moderation keeps my remaining cash in USD (never left the card) so I dont potentially lose any if I were to convert the baht back to USD. This works for any country.

I would humbly like to point that you missed one cheapest way? Walk into a bank with passport and card to withdraw money. ATMs in Thailand take a flat transaction rate of 220 bath that can be saved in this way. Banks are everywhere in Thailand, especially in Bangkok.

It all depends, besides hotel, per day you need 500 for street food, 500 for travel, 3000 for entertainment. Drinks separate. You may google for the entire fee of historical places. Busses are cheap but the biggest issue is the language with any kind of transaction you choose.
Carry crisp bank from notes or will be rejected by the exchanger and the bank.
