As a US citizen, If you do 'retire' early and work online, I still highly recommend you do not ignore your retirement. Maintain regular deposits to a Roth IRA, even if they are small deposits of $50. Future you will be so thankful you did.
I would say it's easier to retire early if you have already made a good amount living in a origin western country. Favorable currency conversion multiplier makes all of this possible.
Every western guy I know thinks that Thailand or South East Asia is the answer to low cost of living and early retirement. The challenge is as soon as you meet a local girl, no matter who she is, costs go up. Unless you are really earning money you really cannot save. Once you need to settle buy a place, a car and all the other expenses, well you are back to Western life because you don’t have the income to support all these additional costs. I have also seen Western guys fall ill and cannot afford the healthcare. If you need to return to Canada, Thai Baht won’t go very far. Finally if you live in Thailand living this life you really cannot afford to travel and live well that’s the truth. The lifestyle is simple to say the least and there is nothing wrong with that. Happy to be proven otherwise,
Thanks for sharing and video. For me, I need at least $3K in monthly pension & at least $100K of savings for emergency to retire for good in Thailand, plain and simple since America is getting worse. Can't wait till late 2025 or early 2026.
I've run out of money more times than I can count over the years. And yet, somehow someway I always find a way to make more. Funny how that works 😏 Never give up!
@@AbroadInThailand Do you have a video that describes how much capital you had when you moved to Thailand? I'm traveling there soon once DTV is approved.
The title should be ‘Retiring in Thailand’ NOT why it’s easier to retire early in Thailand’. There are other SEA countries that have friendlier retirement visas. All information should be based on facts, figures and documented data NOT from friends that are retired in your group. Be objective instead of churning out information based on feelings and emotions.

I second the motion. 😊
Yup, 2024 max limit for Roth IRA is 7000$.
Dont trust any pension schemes provided by the government.

While it's true costs go up by having a Thai partner, my fiancé works a full-time job which helps to support both of us. So it all balances out.

You'll get there! Slow and steady wins the race. I have far less than that and still making it work for years.
The usual live like a king in a foreign country story. All good, until the money runs out and until a significant life event occurs.

Mike did you get that spot on your lung analyzed yet? hope you are ok.
All good. The doctor assured me it's nothing to worry about. Still, better safe than sorry.
Do you have a Thai girlfriend mate?
My fiancé is Thai, yes
@AbroadInThailand Nice. So, are you your fiance's first boyfriend?
@gothops2632 No
@AbroadInThailand So, does it not bother you the type of sexual activities your fiancé engaged in with other men before she met you?

You’re talking about China transportation system and you’ve never been there? You talk bout tariffs and you know nada about tariffs .
You're right, I haven't been to China, and I've watched a few RUclips videos by notable economics professors on the stupidity of tariffs.
