Very good review indeed , I regularly visit Thailand since 1998 and Hua Hin in particular since 2002, I am today 56 years old , so I came at different ages and Hua Hin is for everyone! but mainly for good people with good vibes!😄
Nice work Josh...packing my bags right now. Good on ya. 😂Couple of great comments: "God's waiting room" and "intensely boring", very funny. Can't do 'sedate' or more to the point, be in a place that 'feels' sedate...that said, 'vintage' category myself...and of course all perspective. Loved the drone shots and the view from above + the exploring on offer. Be well sir. 🙏
Haha one way ticket, pack your bags, you're all set! Mate it made me crack up in the comments, not everywhere is for everyone but I get on fine here and don't find myself bored. Thanks for the comment Mark 👍🏻
Is it possible to rent an apartment or a house for $250 there in Hua Hin? No need to be in front of the beach, it could be like 1 or 2 km (like 1,24 miles) from the beach.
Hey question! Will a regular class d license work as an international drivers lic to ride scooters there for when I get pulled over? Or do I need a motorcycle endorsement on it also?
we will move to Hua Hin in 2025 and probably stay there for few years :) I hope I survive the heat, but I was told that at least in Hua Hin the heat is sometimes milder because there is a bit of a sea breeze.
Good summary Josh! I know some people call HH "the city of the living dead" hahaha, but as you said it's not completely true! I'm a retiree myself (71!), lived here 18 years and enjoy it here. Agree that compared to Pattaya for example the majority of expats (and tourists) are in the higher age bracket, but what the heck some of us feel a lot younger than our passport age (me included..). Clubbing scene is not for me... but there are actually a big variety of night spots to choose from... AND I would "for the future" welcome a younger crowd to come here to discover everything HH has to offer!
Thanks for the comment mate. I agree, I’m on the younger side but I like it a lot here. Has something for everyone but it’s probably not for everyone 👍
U make great videos mate, im Peter from Denmark 56 years, been on and off the philippines sine 2010, no more, going Hua Hin in two weeks, looking forward to your trip going philippines, I had a good time up North in La Union, Luzon - aircon bus going Angels/San Fernando or Manila/San Juan, going South "big airplanes" 😊 to Cebu
I've only ever been to Phuket patong but with the wife so we dont generally do the nightlife. We hang at our resort and do the resort stuff and go out during the day mostly. I want ot go to places like Hua Hin, Cha Am, Pattaya, Krabi. Done some of the islands so meh I can take them or leave them. For me it is just mostly relaxing and doing nothing because I am a tradie at home so it is all work and up early so would be nice as i do to just chill by the pool for the first part of the holiday. My problem is then i think i wasted my time so try to cram everything in the last week or 2. In the end though. It is all good for the soul and a good time had by all. Better than work anyway.
Very good video👍🏻💯 Thank you so much! Question Sir: I am nearing retirement, but I can hang with the best in Muscle Factory in Pattaya. *Can I find something similar where you are located? Thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks James. Tbh I don’t think you can find the same here. There’s some good gyms and martial arts gyms but nothing like that I’ve came across or spoken to anyone that’s said they’re around 👍🏻
The real estate in Hua Hin has plenty of more westernized options, you can even catch a place with a little yard like the suburbs in the states. Between that and it's proximity to Bangkok proper, it's easy to see why people retire there. The beaches only get better the further south you go, too. I think it's a better choice than Pattaya, it's a better place to settle down in by all means
@@josh.onthemove i think pace plays a large factor in our decision. You can escape Pattaya ultimately. But it's why most are there, and it feels like it. Hua Hin is a low key draw, for people who've been around the block
G’day Josh, your vids are coming along.. good work man! Question regarding Gyms - well equipped body building gyms AC or none, locations, pricing etc.. Have tried researching and could only find = Tank gym, True arena. Are there others? be awesome for a vid on such… ;) Cheers mate
Excellent video Josh. Have you checked out Palapon fitness centre yet? Great facility with lots to offer. People from young to old and from all walks of life. 🇹🇭🌞
Think you'll be very pleased if you did Josh. The guy that runs Palapon is a highly trained German guy called Klaus. Full Muay Thai camp there and great facilities.
Im in Pattaya, just getting conditioned to the weather for a week or two, then Ill go to another place. Hua Hin will most possible be it for me. I´m 50, and I got 3 months to explore Thailand. Pattaya is too much for me. I exercise in the morning while its still cool, then I go eat lunch, go for a walk, listen to girls trying to get me into their venue, and back at apartment at 1900 to relax and watch YT like I did back home.
Maybe HH could be a good vibe for you then. Hopefully you can get out and explore, some excursions or drive yourself. Plenty to do and see around if you’re not into the party scene 🙌
Yes agree…im 44 and never been but coming for 3wks with 3 kids. We love Koh lipe but its so tiny so you can’t stay too long + has nothing for the kids 😂. Was drawn to Hua Hin bc it has a bit of everything but its not at crazy busy as phuket or bangkok. Looks like a nice hike, where can i find it when i come?
hello sir, "I'm planning to move to Southeast Asia soon, and as part of my research, I'm curious about the reliability of the power grid. Could you tell me how often, if at all, power outages occur in Thailand?"
more and more younger expats from phuket are moving to hua hin. Phuket is too busy with group tours from China, Russia and India. I was there during the weekend and it was a mess. The place is nice, but it's just too crowded and has lost it's charm.
I prefer it out the two. I know what you’re talking about with the tours but I only see that on the occasional day vs everyday, do you find it’s more regular than that?
@@josh.onthemove yeah, i was at kata beach and it was full with people's, the Traffic was really bad. I drove at 5 pm from kata beach back to chalong and it took approx. 90 minutes for this short distance. I was this month 2x times in phuket. There are still many nice and more laid back areas in phuket, but it's more further north like laguna etc. I like the nightlife scene in phuket (bangla road)! I have lived in phuket for 7 years and will probably move to hua hin soon. Actually I'm near koh samui, but it's time to go further north to explore new places.
@@Usernamegigiboe Ah I actually misread your comment to say HH was full with tours, my bad! Completely agree re Phuket, I love it there but the vibe is a little off for me and a bit too hectic. I like HH a lot, especially for longer stays/ living 👍🏻

Great video Josh. I am a Disabled Digital Nomad and currently in BKK for work but will be in HH Nov 9th for 2 weeks to explore options. a. accessibility is high on my list, how difficult is to get around on a wheelchair (like shops, malls, restaurants) ? and b. is Wifi and GRAB reliable if i were to stay 3-4ks mountain side of the main road? Thanks for any insight, Cheers.
You missed one major attraction that attracts the older generation like myself, GOLF, it ain't cheap but HUA HIN has several great golf courses within easy reach from the town centre hotels. Lots of expats are members of golf societies which reduces the cost.
One thing I hear constantly from guys from the UK, mostly older than 40, is that the women in the UK are miserable. Now I know Pattaya has all the bar girls and all the fun, but Hua Hin seems to be more where couples go, wouldn't that mean they are taking their misery with them?
Hua Hin has significant issues that really shouldn't be ignored mate. Recently, the bars on Soi 80 were exposed for child sex trafficking, and just a few weeks ago, a murder occurred on the same road. Incidents of assault on elderly expats are also increasingly common; a look at the Hua Hin expat groups reveals daily reports of troubling incidents. Pedestrian infrastructure is virtually non-existent, forcing people to walk on busy, overcrowded roads, which are dangerous and riddled with potholes. The city also faces a severe water shortage, leaving many homes without a reliable supply. Public transportation is minimal, with Grab being one of the few options available, making it costly and inconvenient for residents. Furthermore, Hua Hin struggles with severe PM 2.5 air pollution, which sends thousands to the hospital annually with respiratory issues. The city's infrastructure is already stretched beyond its capacity, and urgently needs upgrades to support its growing population. Having lived in Thailand for over 20 years, I can say that these issues in Hua Hin are real and should not be downplayed. Honest reviews are essential to avoid attracting newcomers under misleading assumptions.
@@kyogofurahashi for sure every place has its issues. However do you really want to live in a city that has the problems I mentioned above? Let’s be honest.
Every city in Thailand has issues with sex trafficking. Its horrible but if you don't participate in the dengeracy it doesn't affect you. The murder is awful but murder rates here are much lower compared to places like Bangkok, Phuket, Samui etc. Not sure what you're referring to wrt the assaults, I'm sure it happens occassionaly but again extremely rare. The water shortage is a real issue, we have our own water supply so it never affects us but yes anyone planning to live here long term should keep that in mind and look for a personal solution.
Major downside with air quality in Smokey season Jan-April . Spent 3 months in Hua Hin during those months, air quality was hazardous ☣️ Can not see the blue sky and having to wear a mask as soon as your outdoors , not ideal 🥴
Great video Question, it's not important to me but as American what's the percentage of Americans Retires that are In Hua Hin compared to Europeans or other Countries Retires from around the world
Good question, I’ve met a fair amount of Americans here but there seems to be a fairly even split between mainland Europeans, Americans, Brits and Australians - there may be more Aussies if I were to had to say but that’s just a guess
I moved here from Bangkok in September. I live in Hua Don section of Takiab south of hua hin proper. I've met fee Americans. Mostly Northern European-Swiss, Norwegian, German, Dutch...and a somewhat old demographic. It's a good place to retire inexpensively. Draw backs are below average sea water. I wouldn't swim here, things close early or open randomly late-'the chill vibe' and although much better than Bangkok in terms of heat, it still gets hot. Try this out first. Pattaya and phuket aren't my thing nor particularly good for retirement.

Old elite Thai families from Bangkok like to come to Huahin during long holidays as it's not crowded like Pattaya and the south is too far to go.......
Hi Josh, enjoyed your video…I’m a single gay man, 66 years old, and worried about how I would fit in , and starting with a month out there , any advice on where to stay , and what it may cost ….any advice at all welcome…many thanks Mick
The thing I couldn’t handle about Hua Hin was the constant harassment from all the girls. I can imagine a lot of people laughing at this, but when I say constant, I mean it. Morning, noon or night. You’re basically a walking, talking, breathing ATM machine to them, nothing more. Annoying.
If you can handle extreme drought during winter months, some weeks no running tap water, or the air pollution up to pm 230 some days in feb-march-april, polluted seawater when the southern winds are blowing, yeah Hua Hin's a great place😂
Here is the thing about Thailand and any country coming up in the world: You have a somewhat poorer country, they cater to foreigners who have all the money. The foreigners spend the money and that money helps build the country. Meanwhile the foreigners (Farangs) are finding the local women are friendly, After a while the country can build better roads better buildings and better malls and better tourist areas for the farangs but prices get a little more expensive in those areas and the girls after being used and left become a little more wary plus prices go up. I wont go on but in the end, the place becomes as expensive as if you stayed home, the women want more and seem more like the woman from home and the place just seems like where you came from only speak a different language. This is how it goes so enjoy while you can and when you go to Vietnam or Cambodia and think nah not as clean as Thailand, remember, this is where Thailand was 30-50yrs ago. So just enjoy where you are and what it has to offer for the price and next holiday you can try somewhere else.
I might give this place a try. I'm 44 so unfortunately not even close to retirement but I do notice that I start to enjoy regular bars, good conversations and maybe a bit of live music a lot more than straight up clubbing.

Very good review indeed , I regularly visit Thailand since 1998 and Hua Hin in particular since 2002, I am today 56 years old , so I came at different ages and Hua Hin is for everyone! but mainly for good people with good vibes!😄
Thanks for the comment. Happy birthday sir, HH is defo a great place 🙌
As a Thai , It's true Hua hin is for good people & families.........
Excellent video. I appreciate it
awesome amount of information mate, covered all adult ages, look forward to checking it out very soon
Thanks! I think HH is a good spot to setup 👌
Are there any close in places to snorkel or dive? Have you seen many Japanese retirees?
Hey question! Will a regular class d license work as an international drivers lic to ride scooters there for when I get pulled over? Or do I need a motorcycle endorsement on it also?
we will move to Hua Hin in 2025 and probably stay there for few years :) I hope I survive the heat, but I was told that at least in Hua Hin the heat is sometimes milder because there is a bit of a sea breeze.
Great video mate, personally I found Hua Hin, and I’m 25. I’ll be going back soon, where was that hike that you are doing in the video?
Thanks! I can’t remember the name but it’s by the mangroves in Khao Takiab near monkey mountain 👍
Great .thank you it is very interesting .
Thanks!
Great job my friend!
Thank you
Great video. Really good information!
Thanks 👊🏻
U make great videos mate, im Peter from Denmark 56 years, been on and off the philippines sine 2010, no more, going Hua Hin in two weeks, looking forward to your trip going philippines, I had a good time up North in La Union, Luzon - aircon bus going Angels/San Fernando or Manila/San Juan, going South "big airplanes" 😊 to Cebu
great info video
Thanks!
Great review a new destination for me now thank you
Thanks for the comment, defo worth checking out if it sounds like you’re kind of place 👊🏻
Hi from Valencia, Spain, wondering if Hua Hin worth the move for me, i'm 49 years old, in less than 12 months i could apply for retirement visa.
Another great info video
Thanks mate 👊🏻
Love your videos lad 👌🏾🏴
Thanks Will 👊🏻
Another good vid, thanks mate!
Thanks mate!
Very good video👍🏻💯
Thank you so much!
@ thank you for your extremely rapid response👍🏻 It shows me you are professional, intelligent, kind !
Thank you so much 🙏🏻💯
The real estate in Hua Hin has plenty of more westernized options, you can even catch a place with a little yard like the suburbs in the states. Between that and it's proximity to Bangkok proper, it's easy to see why people retire there. The beaches only get better the further south you go, too. I think it's a better choice than Pattaya, it's a better place to settle down in by all means
There’s some lovely properties here! I’m biased but I think it’s a better choice than Pattaya too 😏
@@josh.onthemove i think pace plays a large factor in our decision.
Are there others? be awesome for a vid on such… ;)
Cheers mate
Excellent video Josh. Have you checked out Palapon fitness centre yet? Great facility with lots to offer. People from young to old and from all walks of life. 🇹🇭🌞
Thanks John. Haven’t been there before, I’ll try to swing by and check it out 👍
Think you'll be very pleased if you did Josh.
You are a man with a sharp eye, what are the best night life areas, from top down.
สวัสดีค่ะ🙏🇹🇭ยินดีต้อนรับค่ะ
Thank you and hello 👋
Really good video! Love HH❤️
Me too 😎
I booked for 2 weeks in Hua Hin... left after 5 days.... it was for pensioners.
Thanks for the confirmation 😂😂😂
Yes agree…im 44 and never been but coming for 3wks with 3 kids. We love Koh lipe but its so tiny so you can’t stay too long + has nothing for the kids 😂. Was drawn to Hua Hin bc it has a bit of everything but its not at crazy busy as phuket or bangkok. Looks like a nice hike, where can i find it when i come?
Minibuses near Victory Monument can drive you to Hua Hin. Less than 200 baht
What age are your kids ? And have u been to Thailand with kids before?
@ yes they loved it 👌 Ages 8-13
I think you’ll like it a lot. It’s the mangroves in Khao Takiab. Unsure of the actual name
Hua hin is a great place. Just like Ching mai but with a beach
If chiang mai had a beach and didn’t become such a smog for months of the year, it would probably be my fav place in TH
hello sir, "I'm planning to move to Southeast Asia soon, and as part of my research, I'm curious about the reliability of the power grid. Could you tell me how often, if at all, power outages occur in Thailand?"
Brilliant video. Thanks!
Thank you’
Thank you so much for pronouncing Hua Hin correctly. หวัหิน

more and more younger expats from phuket are moving to hua hin.
Did you mention golf courses as i just skimmed through, i did leave a like though😁👍🤙
Not a golfer, also didn't finish the vid yet lol. But i do know there's opportunities for golf and that seaside breeze will go a long way lol. Happy travels, may you always put under par!
I didn’t actually, was only when I hit post I thought I didn’t mention golf/ kitesurfing. I don’t know tonnes about either of them though so don’t know how much I’d have had to say 😅. Thanks for the comment!
Defo a golfing community here, I’m just not part of it lol!
😂 @ gods waiting room
Growing old is a privilege many never get to experience
Mark Twain, I didn’t quote (“) him but it’s close
Great content, nephew, keepin it Thai 😊
Stay safe, dude
Retiree right next a golf course in Hua Hin
Cheers
Haha the comment tickled me too!
Love that quote. Something we'll all hopefully be lucky enough to experience, maybe even in Hua Hin ;)
Appreciate the comment sir 🫡
Hua Hin so beautiful place and Suitable for retirees.😊
Defo!
Hua Hin is for the original locals and respectful expats.
You missed one major attraction that attracts the older generation like myself, GOLF, it ain't cheap but HUA HIN has several great golf courses within easy reach from the town centre hotels.
Lots of expats are members of golf societies which reduces the cost.
I missed a few things for sure, golf, kite surfing to name a couple. Thanks for the comment!
Petchaburi is a little closer to Bangkok than Hua Hin and a lot cheaper. It will be next location for expats.
Quick question Josh..do I need vaccines for travel to Vietnam? I go to Da Nang in Feb.. thanks
Good Q, I’m not entirely sure but I’d personally get up to date with my tetanus and potentially hepatitis B to help no dramas happen on my trip 👌
Great info, great vidio
Thanks again Pat 👊🏻
Dream trip for me, traveled the world with the Military , i'm a man of a certain age... yet a bit of a party hound. lol great video
Haha I think you’d like Thailand as a whole, Hua Hin included!
One thing I hear constantly from guys from the UK, mostly older than 40, is that the women in the UK are miserable. Now I know Pattaya has all the bar girls and all the fun, but Hua Hin seems to be more where couples go, wouldn't that mean they are taking their misery with them?
Excellent content
Thanks!
Did I say gods waiting room or coffin dodgers :) another great vid Josh!
Marko
I believe you take the credit mate haha! Thanks Marko 🫡
You'll get there much sooner than you can ever imagine at the moment!🤔😉
@@andyhayward8792 too funny already 🤪🤪🤪
Can you tell me or share a Google like to where you are walking 😊 thanks
It’s the mangroves in Khao Takiab, unsure of the name sorry!
Great information 😊

I think most big cities/ tourist spots around the world have the same sort of issues!
@@kyogofurahashi for sure every place has its issues. However do you really want to live in a city that has the problems I mentioned above? Let’s be honest.
@@edwarddowd-yinyang u mite as well want to commit suicide and go and live in ur utopian world, may be there will a place like that for u
@@Buceesfanmaarten To be clear it was CHILD SEX TRAFFICKING. Let’s not sugarcoat things mate.
Major downside with air quality in Smokey season Jan-April .
Spent 3 months in Hua Hin during those months, air quality was hazardous ☣️
Can not see the blue sky and having to wear a mask as soon as your outdoors , not ideal 🥴
That’s a downfall although I’ve heard it’s not always like that each year and definitely isn’t as bad as the north or BKK?
Great video Question, it's not important to me but as American what's the percentage of Americans Retires that are
In Hua Hin compared to Europeans or other
Countries Retires from around the world
Good question, I’ve met a fair amount of Americans here but there seems to be a fairly even split between mainland Europeans, Americans, Brits and Australians - there may be more Aussies if I were to had to say but that’s just a guess
@@Jughead24 thanks you sounds good for me at this point in my life I've have enough of nightlife with bar girls and drinking all

@michieleverett4739 there is a small swimming area near in takiab. Its netted to protect from jellyfish. Most condos have a pool. Good luck finding your place. If you hold EU Passport Greece is a good option also
hey mate, ive been looking to start a business here and one of your comments " bingo" why didnt i thnk of that 😂 , yes lots of retirees here, but i have noticed more younger people visiting hua hin over the last 8 years or so. lets just hope that gods waiting room has a big cue 😂. keep up the good work. cheers
Haha Steve you’ve got your golden idea now mate?? Interesting to hear you notice the trend changing with the age bracket that are coming here, I’ve only known what I’ve seen this year. I reckon this place rejuvenates that queue 😎. Thanks for the comment mate
Hey mate. Not pissing in your pocket but you deserve more hits. Your videos and the way you get to the point about your subjects is great. Rather than some dick going to a Cafe somewere and raving about a ham and cheese sandwich for 10 mins😂 I'm sure you'll get more. If not borrow some of paddy doyles socks. Sure to get more hits 😂. Cheers mate.
Would you say HH is worth stopping off in for 2ish days on the way south or just keep going?
Depends what you’re looking for but if you’ve got the time then definitely worth checking out to see if you like it!
The thing I couldn’t handle about Hua Hin was the constant harassment from all the girls. I can imagine a lot of people laughing at this, but when I say constant, I mean it. Morning, noon or night. You’re basically a walking, talking, breathing ATM machine to them, nothing more. Annoying.
Don't know what your talking about I'm 92 had no harassment unfortunately..
@ Thats really interesting. Maybe i was in the wrong place? Towards the beach, west of the night market, near an Irish bar?
can you live there without a car/motorbike?
Definitely, many people do
Great video! Sounds like it's perfect for the secret grandpas like me 👴🏻🤫
I think you’d slot right in mate 😉
If you can handle extreme drought during winter months, some weeks no running tap water, or the air pollution up to pm 230 some days in feb-march-april, polluted seawater when the southern winds are blowing, yeah Hua Hin's a great place😂
Good video.
What’s happening is that retirees are getting younger.
I hope that’s the truth 😅
Hi Josh, another good clip with honest objective opinions, it really helps people when looking for place to be mate. Thank you
Thanks mate, great to hear that perspective 👊🏻
Thank You.
Thank you!
