    I'll close my left eye and peak through the right one. so if there is permanent damage I will still have one good eye to see through. problem solved

    I will look directly at the sun with no eye protection. It's the best way to experience this phenomenon.
    EDIT: I will use binoculars, my eyesight isn't what it used to be

      You can look directly at a total solar eclipse without eye damage. You should use special glasses when staring at a partial eclipse, though. Unless you're a complete badass of course

    I was in Corvallis, Oregon at the time, and I SAW THE WHOLE THING!! After THIRTY years of waiting, I FINALLY get to see a total solar eclipse! It was so AWESOME!! I had family there, so it was no trouble at all to find a place to stay. I really am lucky, I know that now. The drive back home was awful, but the eclipse was absolutely worth it. Funny thing, the drive there was EASY! No serious traffic at all going there, it was all in coming back. The next eclipse in the USA will be in April 2024, or so I read. I'll be sure to plan for a trip to the totality part then, too. Total solar eclipses truly are beautiful, I feel like I won the lottery.

    I wonder if there are 'donut' solar eclipses on other planets/solar systems, where the moon is much smaller in the sky in relation to it's sun. It would create a ring or donut shape sun in the sky during an eclipse.

    Fun facts: Solar eclipses was a way to study the Sun's atmosphere in the past. The size of the Umbra on the surface of the Earth is about 160 km across. The planets can be seen during an eclipse. Solar eclipses do not only happen on Earth, but on other planets too. Actually, some planets may have multiple solar eclipses at the same time. The next total solar eclipse will happen on 14 of December 2020 and will be visible from Argentina and Chile.

    I remember my first solar eclipse, i was a few years ago, from now. During the eclipse, it was rather cloudy outside, so we were worried we wouldn’t even get to see it. Me, my brother and my mom went to an open fieldwere people were gathering to watch. Just as it was a few minutes from the eclipse, our horrors were realized. The clouds started rolling in and nearly covered the sun completely.
    We thought we were going to miss our possibly only chance of seeing an eclipse when we noticed something, the sun was still noticable through the clouds.
    The cloud coverage didn’t get very thick until later in the day, so the suun’s light was still coming through. In fact, in an interesting turn of events, the coverage was just thick enough to not only still be able to see the eclipse, but some people were actually able to see the eclipse through the whole thing without their glasses. I know, it sounds crazy to do so, but the light wasn’t that bright to do any harm, only just be visible through the clouds.
    I have to say, it wasn’t exactly the experience i thought i’d get, but now i think i can safely say that i was one of many that managed to view a solar eclipse without eclipse glasses, and without losing vision.

      I'm a flat earther again, I think. I was a globe earther , then flat earther, then globe earther because couldn't explain sunset over the horizon on a flat earth. Now possibly a flat earther again as sunset has been shown on a flat earth 🤔 my question is..
      I don't understand how countries see it in different countries at different times 🤔
      Why can I see the sun with no moon by it, but then others can see the same sun with the moon in front of it?
      Are we seeing different sides of the same sun? That's the only logical conclusion I can think of 🤔

    • @lawyermorty4247
      @lawyermorty4247 4 года назад +2

      Rachie 00000 it can be explained with angles, from one persons perspective light from the sun may be being blocked by the moon, but from another persons perspective the moon isn’t blocking other light. It’s sort of like if you have a lamp and you hold your hand out in front of you to block light from the lamp, this obstructs your view of the lamp but not someone else in the room who is looking at the lamp from a different angle.
