Did rack pulls last night. People in my gym have no clue what I'm doing. I love it.
It must be a really shitty gym.
G Coy workout world. It's better than PF. They have 4 benches and two squat racks. They only charge $10 so they get a lot of the PF type crowd but there are some serious lifters there too. Even the big body builder that I'm friendly with questioned me once on rack pulls when he had the pins set up for rows and I asked to work in with rack pulls. He was like "What?"
I think they are lesser known exercise is all.
Nobody cares what you're doing
David Perkins that guy huh? The gym know-it-all. Tell me more ...please enlighten me.
Jeremy Menning lol in my gym there are guys doing 1pl8 barbell curls with a belt in the squat rack.
Nobody says a thing
Chase Lindley's stare is so intense at the end there that I peed myself a little
Nice to see someone that doesn't pretend overtraining doesn't exist
jweber544 Isn't preferred term nowadays "under-recovery" as it is more apt description of the condition?
volvo245 If you want to be pedantic, sure.
But the recovery interval is typically fixed. You can over-train for your given recovery interval.
I just started using this as substitute for deadlifts on the NLP due to a proximal hamstring issue. I'm having to use a position just above the knee and basically the opposite of Mark's instruction as I try to stay more in my quads so more knee extension, more behind the bar etc. This keeps the loading more spread over the length of the hamstring without causing so much compression around the proximal origin. This has been helping and hasn't of yet caused an increase in symptoms. Spread the word for folks looking for a way to rehab a proximal hamstring issue.
These rack pulls are substantially lower than his original video where he looked like he was only slightly below the knee
Sprained my left lat doing heavy snatch grip rack pulls right below the knee. Wasn't too bad. Messed with my recovery, but I have had trouble feeling my left lat for a long time. I'm basically able to fully contract it now, but spraining it really helped me feel it more but it also confirmed to be that snatch grip rack pulls are excellent for getting a weighted stretch on the lats.
Dips. We need one of these videos for dips.....
Gonna try get this rack made locally with the plans in the book!
No one would do it for me :'(
@@mattjoe182 dude where do you live? there's tons of racks online for sale
Chase ready to kill anyone who even looks at Mark wrong!
Great video quality.
Mark, In your other rack pull video the set up was right under the knee, this video was mid shin. Which one is correct?
just below or at the tibial tuberosity. If the other video was a different lifter than it would look different.
The gym manager used to cheer me up when I'm doing conventional deadlift off the floor back then. However, the moment I started rack pulling, he can't even look me in the eye anymore. He must've think I've grown tired of deadlifting, and switched to damaging his well polished racks. Poor guy.
Very informative sir.
Thank you for this detailed tutorial. Would it more accurate to say emphasis is on HIP extension, as opposed to lower back extension? I assume low back aims to maintain extension posturally, but the movement drive to be hip extension i.e. glute/ham extending hip joints?
How much do you think the Engineers from Prometheus can Rack Pull?
I am an Engineer from Earth (lol), I Rack Pull 565 not from that height from right below the knee
A L O T lolololol
Do you even rack pull above the knees ???
@alphadestiny
NorthStrongSC Alphadestiny does them above the knee for his traps. Rip recommends them below the knee as a deadlift substitute in combination with the halting deadlift every other session.
rack pulls above the toes
betadestiny
Did he say only one set? Thats it?!? 🤔
i've never seen so many egos in a comment section on youtube
2:35, Chase is like "my upper back is feeling lit dawg"
Mark i just did a sick 1rm of face pulls!
Were you able to completely pull your face off or was it just a partial tear?
@@TheHaiku2 he's got to follow that facepull up with skull crushers to get the full effect.
Rack pulls great supplement lift from the deadlift so block pulls rdls and stiff leg deadlifts are recovery lifts from the shumo and conventional deadlift. Best accessorie lifts got to be pendalay row tbar row barbell row but in powerlifting style for them two and chin ups and pull-ups I have a wicked back how I done it basically would use pendalay for tipical 5x5 so ver big load lift barbell row tbar use as reps to 8 so with the chinups and pull ups I mix it up with these 4 so I do like barbell row do chin ups or a pull up tbar row or tbar row barbell row or chinups pull ups get the drift.
What's Rip's one rep max on upright shoulder row?
Bout 785.
Squat Rack ftw! 😍
Stfu baby
He's wearing squat shoes.
Also just because you are doing a rack pull (or singles for that matter) doesn't mean you have
to lift a weight that is difficult to recover from.
0:42 of course it’s sets of FAHVE
Can rack pulls ruin your barbell? Heard stories about it but I don’t believe especially if you have a quality bar
yeah heavy ones
I just spent about 150 bucks in wood so I can build blocks for rack pulls. That way I don't have to actually rack the bar and let the weight hang on it.
I have a bar just for rack pulls. Im not that strong im only doing 160 kg rackpulls but sometimes when fatiqued i put it back on the safety pins a bit harder than i want and so far its holding up well but once i get stronger im sure it will create a bit of a bend barbell.
IT'S ALL ABOUT HAAP DRAV
I recently added a "rack pull" to my program. Only issue with it, at my gym at least, is that the squat racks' lowest setting is right about knee-height for me, making the ROM shorter. Is this something I should worry about or just work with what I got?
I also put rack pull is quotation marks since what I can do at my gym might not be considered a full rack pull due to the shortened ROM. Just clarifying for anyone curious.
First name Last name it's not ideal but get one of those step platforms that they use in the classes. I do that at my regular gym that has fixed racks. But if I add the platform it brings the bar just below my knees.
thanks man, didn't think of that. we have a box at my gym, about 1 foot. sometimes I can't find it though lol.
Standing on a 45 pound plate. would pull it just below your knee. Combining deficit and rack pull strategies is strange.
Rack pulls above the knee
Please don't use a good bar for your rack pulls, folks. Try to find one that's already bent.
I'm used to a different kind of rack. And I don't pull... I suck
Is Mark uncomfortable putting his right arm close to his body?
cool
Rack Pull > Deadlift
Hey Rip that beer gut is just hours away from becoming self aware and taking over the world.
onceuponthecross1 Gotta confuse the powerlifting community, right?
hes a coach, not a powerlifter (anymore). have you seen russian olympic coaches? they’re old guys. why? because they know what they’re talking about, dur dur. that said, rip likely still DL’s more than you.
@Alphadestiny
+1
Who is Rip signaling with his constant finger flicking?
Nopy Nope the government
LOL
When you don't know what to do with your hands
🤓 Interesting, how heavy was that anyone know? at home what I could use are automotive stands for a poor mans substitute 😄
90kg
This guy is over 7% BF. What the fuck would he know..
Mellow Bill How to eat for strength?
volvo245 lol you dont need to be fat to be strong
Shitting three times per day lets you know you're on the right track.
Dont snort your pre workout..
0% respect for an oily PMMA inflated junkie I'm afraid. Godammit.
By approximately 5%.
Rippetoe looks like a mechanic and not someone who is good shape.
He’s not in good shape but he is very strong especially considering his age. There’s a video on RUclips of him deadlifting 500lbs in his 60s
