THIS, can be used to get groceries, drive everyday while TOWING (your boat you most likely own), it can't go mudding or climb knee high rocks, but I can tell it'll take you on any dirt/mud trail you want, even go over a fallen tree or two.
The steering is not a issue. I got S500 w220, the steering is the same.. you got "deadzone" and it's much relaxing.. it's not a BMW with his "hard" steering. I love that steering man, I hope you'll understand me someday :)

It is useless , for normal roads the car is to stiff for off-road to much road car . The rear seats are useless if you are taller than 170m . The fuel efficiency is not good to . Nobody needs a x6 , there is alway a better choice

Its definitely NOT preposterous. It holds a ton of kit. It can go anywhere you have the spuds to attempt to go. Its nice and narrow for dodging around town. Its got the grunt to make a Porsche think twice, it sounds awesome, the seats are divine. Its not preposterous, its wonderful!

I've driven the G55 very often and too me one of the greatest car ever. The G63 must be an monster because the 5.5 V8 with the (noisy) blower was already incredibly fast compared with ... there is nothing to compare with, that's the beauty of the car.
I understand why a racing driver would not be taken with it, but in practical terms it is perhaps the most useful vehicle he has ever reviewed. 365 days a year it will get the groceries, pick up the kids, tow the boat or the camper and have the power to do it. NONE of those can be accomplished with a McLaren. So which one is actually useless? Don't get me wrong. I love love love fast cars, but a daily driver has to have the room in it to be useful.
The problem with it as a daily driver is that its more uncomfortable than sitting on a bench with nails sticking out of it.. I've been a passenger in one on a 120 mile trip, and it looks and feels amazing sitting at standstill, but on the move its diabolical, especially at its price point.. It was never built for comfort, and even with all the leather and upmarket add ons that shows.. The owner of the one I was in said he only bought it for the kudos of owning one, and he's never taken it off road which is its natural habitat. He also said that he just loves it for the way it looks and makes him feel, and his wife won't get in it, which he thinks is a bonus🤣😂
If youre in FL you get an x6/X5M or Cayenne turbo/s if youre in a city up north and want to have an SUV that can be fairly quick comfortable and handle the shit roads in NYC and Jersey with god awful potholes then this is the best choice. Still love the design, classic.
I have always been completely fascinated by this car. It can't handle well, it's not aerodynamic, it's much slower than any other AMG, fuel consumption is very heavy, and there must be so many other downsides. But it's amazing, it looks historical but modern in details, the interior is super-luxurious, the engineering is impressive and that V8 is totally unexpected. I absolutely love it. If I were rich enough I would really consider buying it!

It depends on where you live, I have to work a crappy job in St.Moritz in Switzerland and it's full of them: long wheel base G63 G55, short wheelbase, tuned ones with cool rims....I love looking out of the door during a boring day and seeing these :)
To be be honest would have agreed with most saying this is an offroader until i picked one up 2 weeks ago in Germany, first impression u get is that suspension is like that of a race CAR rock hard and the sound of doors closing, like a vault shutting. This thing drives like no other jeep probably cos of that suspension, its literarily race car bopping and it handles like a car too at speed, but due to hand build nature cars are different in character... and the acceleration is something to behold, its hilarious to put mildly so understand Chris, plus start up makes me laugh like a kid seeing playboy/hustler for 1st time , it sounds insane and everyone stares even in Germany all the way, and boy is it quick what a CAR....note i said CAR not jeep could go on and on. Fuel is not fun tho, but not so bad stopped for fill ups 3 times between Berlin and London.. Lovely ride indeed...Sigh

G-class has only two real generations from 1979: W460 and W463. W463 designed in 1990. 2015 G63 is on 1990 designed chassis and technologies. it only got Face lift and interior updates. The wind cancellation is the same. the finishes is worst finshes u will find. after 2-3 years u will see parts fall off, the windows are shaky if u opened little. I like G-Class airodynamic but they should double the front windshield to minimize the wind noise problem. u can hear it in the video. I hate G-class engineers they didn't work in the basic things chassis should be aluminum for that price. Second seat is useless for adults. good sunroof but should have panoramic sunroof. just learn from range rover! and make W465 or whatever
MB is working on one that's basically a 6x6 G63 with four wheels instead of six. It still has the massive tires and all the other goodies from the 6x6 though!!

i actually like the cayenne and panamera =P their abilities to defy weight and size is real impressive now technically its the other way around, the G63 is really the only one of that list that still is an SUV, a large wagon like-body mounted on a frame, whereas others all are technically crossovers, unibody chassis expanded off a car chassis, old fashioned and you can do whatever the G550 as the suspension components are the same albeit tires and exhaust tips.. and boy do i love them and want
Ibrahim Mohammed I have owned both a Gwagon and many Jeeps... The Merc would have been better if it would have ran the whole two years I leased it. My Rubicon was better off road.. and my Grand Cherokee was more comfortable. But I miss the Gwagon every day...
something to take into consideration is that of the two, the G class is the only with 3 diff locks, the defender relies on traction control to prevent wheel slip left to right, it's not quite land rover's best system either.
Chris to answer your question of how fast it WOULD go.... I own a 2008 G55 mapped to around 550hp. Fully derestricted, had to sign a waiver so if a tyre or something else goes can't sue etc etc.... and the answer is... no faster than 225 kmh GPS, even on long straights on the Autobahn. The wind resistance simply stops it, nothing doing. Avg fuel consumption around 45L/100km at that speed. Completely COMPLETELY pointless car but I love it, would/will buy it again..
This thing is basically like an old school American muscle car. Big, heavy, boxy, bad in corners, goes like hell in a straight line, sounds like a beast, and looks cool as hell! As they call them in England, "footballers" will eat this thing up! Not my cup of tea, but still very cool!

Yes it will be very efficient killing bugs at a limited top speed using even more fuel. Perhaps it will come with a rear spoiler to keep it grounded - ohh no i forgot, it will possibly be heavier with the larger engine.
both the SRT8 jeep and cayenne GTS were designed to have track manners though., in fact this year SRT actually ran an SRT8 jeep in the one lap of america race, which stops daily at tracks for challenges.

there are many things in life that are pointless but offer us joys, this its one of those things that its awesome just because it exists, its like a monument, its made this way to symbolize something not to have a functionality
A G350 bluetech makes a lot more sense than this for average people. ladder chassis, diff locks all around, and a turbo diesel with a lot of low end torque are ideal for the kind of offroading in UK, Europe, and NAmerica. Not to mention that the diesel are probably easier on your wallet too. However if you live in any one of the the gulf states, and have an uncontrollable desire to bash some dunes in the desert everyday, then the power from the G63 and G65 is what you need.
Simply one word to describe this car, Brilliant. Who cares if it's a 30 odd year old car, who cares if it has the aerodynamics of a skyscraper, who cares if it uses the same suspension as a carriage. Those looks, that engine, that exhaust note, the interior, this car is spectacular. Yes this AMG Version is not the best for offroading, there's the 350, 500, and proffesional. This is by far the coolest SUV and there's even a more bonkers one, with a 612hp V12. Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!

You just love the Gwagon, don't you ? It's just on of those cars, like most AMGs lots of faults with them but if you like them, you caouldn't help but end up loving them. Proud owner of a W204 C 220 and hopefully sometime soon an AMG :)

Completely right, But having a AMG biturbo V8 does not lessen anything of the car's off-road capabilities; But also its enormous torque power Helps it a lot in hill-climbing and deep mud and snow conditions. As you said G Class is a perfect born off-roader even with on-road capabilities increased; it does not have any effect. Also the height is not lowered noticeably.
I would never call anybody sick or crazy just for loving Mercedes. Everybody has their favorites. Im´ not a big fan of mercedes, thou i think they are progressing really well with some of their new designs. CLS, SLS and the images of the new C-Class looks really good. I think thou this G63 AMG has outlived itself as a Show Off. For non AMG spec it´s just like the Defender - i hold nothing bad against it.
It is funny how nearly 800 people have an opinion about a vehicle that they have never driven or owned. As an owner of a Gwagon I can say it is not for everyone. If you are looking for a vehicle that is more off road out of the box than an Jeep Wrangler, or H1 Hummer, toyota LandCruiser or a Defender than you may want to look at the Gwagon. I take my Gwagon to Moab and use it for what it was intended and it is in class all its own. I love it because it also has head room and I am 6'8".
If you want to analyse the aerodynamic performance of a vehicle, look at the lip of the bonnet, the rake angle of the windscreen but most importantly, it's the REAR of the car that makes the difference. From my perspective, the G Wagon isn't the worst car on the market.
if you put steelies and muddies on that thing, I'm sure it would do just fine off road. Just like a Range Rover, it's just not common for them to go off road nowadays. The steering is dead for a reason btw.
indeed it can go offroading... propably better than any other car.... it might get dirty but the suspension and the shocks are still independent, four wheel drive and it has 3 differentials, so this car propably has more offroad capability than a jeep

It's actually an excellent off roader: 3 locking diffs, massive clearance, low range ratios etc. but of course most who buy it will never try

Wrong way to build G-wagen. It should be fitted with diesel and fat-profile tyres to go off-road. And there should be winch fitted in the front.

MB is working on one that's basically a 6x6 G63 with four wheels instead of six. It still has the massive tires and all the other goodies from the 6x6 though!!

now technically its the other way around, the G63 is really the only one of that list that still is an SUV, a large wagon like-body mounted on a frame, whereas others all are technically crossovers, unibody chassis expanded off a car chassis, old fashioned and you can do whatever the G550 as the suspension components are the same albeit tires and exhaust tips.. and boy do i love them and want
people that buy this i hope they know they purchase a 90k jeep and non amg
Ibrahim Mohammed I have owned both a Gwagon and many Jeeps... The Merc would have been better if it would have ran the whole two years I leased it. My Rubicon was better off road.. and my Grand Cherokee was more comfortable. But I miss the Gwagon every day...

something to take into consideration is that of the two, the G class is the only with 3 diff locks, the defender relies on traction control to prevent wheel slip left to right, it's not quite land rover's best system either.
Chris to answer your question of how fast it WOULD go.... I own a 2008 G55 mapped to around 550hp. Fully derestricted, had to sign a waiver so if a tyre or something else goes can't sue etc etc.... and the answer is... no faster than 225 kmh GPS, even on long straights on the Autobahn. The wind resistance simply stops it, nothing doing. Avg fuel consumption around 45L/100km at that speed. Completely COMPLETELY pointless car but I love it, would/will buy it again..
This thing is basically like an old school American muscle car. Big, heavy, boxy, bad in corners, goes like hell in a straight line, sounds like a beast, and looks cool as hell! As they call them in England, "footballers" will eat this thing up! Not my cup of tea, but still very cool!

You had me on the whole Video until you stated "Preposterous". Really brother after riding the G and Visibly enjoying the ride at 200MPH. As a Marine, I love the look and am searching for one. I a Single and it will be helpful in my situation, because I road travel. I can take my photography gear, weapons, hiking gear, tents, and so forth and my rottweiler will love the space. Works for me.

Yes it will be very efficient killing bugs at a limited top speed using even more fuel. Perhaps it will come with a rear spoiler to keep it grounded - ohh no i forgot, it will possibly be heavier with the larger engine.
both the SRT8 jeep and cayenne GTS were designed to have track manners though., in fact this year SRT actually ran an SRT8 jeep in the one lap of america race, which stops daily at tracks for challenges.

No,actually this wasn't a proper test drive. I didn't get shit from it...I wish he answerd my questions: should we buy it ? is it better in some ways than a Range Rover or a GL ? How many miles per gallon ? Is the G 350 Blue worth looking at ? How's room in the back ? Is it the safest car in it's class ? etc...
there are many things in life that are pointless but offer us joys, this its one of those things that its awesome just because it exists, its like a monument, its made this way to symbolize something not to have a functionality
A G350 bluetech makes a lot more sense than this for average people. ladder chassis, diff locks all around, and a turbo diesel with a lot of low end torque are ideal for the kind of offroading in UK, Europe, and NAmerica. Not to mention that the diesel are probably easier on your wallet too. However if you live in any one of the the gulf states, and have an uncontrollable desire to bash some dunes in the desert everyday, then the power from the G63 and G65 is what you need.
Simply one word to describe this car, Brilliant. Who cares if it's a 30 odd year old car, who cares if it has the aerodynamics of a skyscraper, who cares if it uses the same suspension as a carriage. Those looks, that engine, that exhaust note, the interior, this car is spectacular. Yes this AMG Version is not the best for offroading, there's the 350, 500, and proffesional. This is by far the coolest SUV and there's even a more bonkers one, with a 612hp V12. Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!

You just love the Gwagon, don't you ? It's just on of those cars, like most AMGs lots of faults with them but if you like them, you caouldn't help but end up loving them. Proud owner of a W204 C 220 and hopefully sometime soon an AMG :)

Completely right, But having a AMG biturbo V8 does not lessen anything of the car's off-road capabilities; But also its enormous torque power Helps it a lot in hill-climbing and deep mud and snow conditions. As you said G Class is a perfect born off-roader even with on-road capabilities increased; it does not have any effect. Also the height is not lowered noticeably.
The speed limiting factor may be flat windscreen and less aerodynamics rather than those tyres.........
i would get this to go off road honestly, and to just cruise around and enjoy driving it!
I would never call anybody sick or crazy just for loving Mercedes. Everybody has their favorites. Im´ not a big fan of mercedes, thou i think they are progressing really well with some of their new designs. CLS, SLS and the images of the new C-Class looks really good. I think thou this G63 AMG has outlived itself as a Show Off. For non AMG spec it´s just like the Defender - i hold nothing bad against it.

Defenders and Jeeps are for off road. The G is for some dirt/gravel roads or beach driving.
It is funny how nearly 800 people have an opinion about a vehicle that they have never driven or owned. As an owner of a Gwagon I can say it is not for everyone. If you are looking for a vehicle that is more off road out of the box than an Jeep Wrangler, or H1 Hummer, toyota LandCruiser or a Defender than you may want to look at the Gwagon. I take my Gwagon to Moab and use it for what it was intended and it is in class all its own. I love it because it also has head room and I am 6'8".
If you want to analyse the aerodynamic performance of a vehicle, look at the lip of the bonnet, the rake angle of the windscreen but most importantly, it's the REAR of the car that makes the difference. From my perspective, the G Wagon isn't the worst car on the market.

And you can go off-roading with this one too.
As for me, G55 sounded much more brutal, and the looks were better, but, since there is no 55 anymore this is my new favorite offroader
if you put steelies and muddies on that thing, I'm sure it would do just fine off road. Just like a Range Rover, it's just not common for them to go off road nowadays.

indeed it can go offroading... propably better than any other car.... it might get dirty but the suspension and the shocks are still independent, four wheel drive and it has 3 differentials, so this car propably has more offroad capability than a jeep
