Jean kevin Branlouis you aerial out of shield with Lucina when up b doesn’t reach. Up b catches low profiling but it doesn’t have nearly as much horizontal range as bair or fair OOS
@@chlomeursmasheur5144 to add to what drake said up b out of shield is also much faster. If the opponent is right next to me within range and I'm not sure if an aerial will hit in time I will ALWAYS up b out of shield. The only risky part is if you miss it's a free hit for the opponent, but in my experience up b can punish almost anything as long as they are in range so it's worth it. If you have time to use an aerial instead it might be better cause it could lead to more follow ups since you won't be stuck in the air.
Ya, when you don't have a whole lot of direction and are potentially new to the character, there's going to be a lot you're just not going to think about. And when the person giving you the advice is the best player of said character, you're definitely going to learn a couple things lol
Really love this content, people think Lucina is basic just cause she doesn’t have super long strings but really there’s so much stuff to think about and optimize during a match
i never get enough out of ledgetrapping on this character so i appreciate the segment on that :) something else I learned from watching you that I think is worth mentioning is throwing out a lot of really quick rar bairs in neutral, it can kill pretty early and does a good job hitting small characters
Lucina is my favorite character(she is so beautiful and cool❤). But almost no one pick Lucina in big competition. So I’m glad that there is a pro Lucina like you pick Lucina in big game, enable us to enjoy the top tier Lucina game play. Thank you! (Fan from Taiwan, sorry for poor English.)
Im a Lucina main and these tips really help. I love her as a character in FE and Smash, she's great. Thanks for the help it means a lot to hear a pro player give advice to us just starting out
I've been playing this entire character's base wrong i guess. Back in brawl (damn, ages ago), marth ran on the 'hot and cold' idea of being defensive with spaced aerials and then switching it up to more aggressive strings of approaching aerials. These tips really mix that up for me, and gave me some more 'applicable' ideas for smash ultimate. thanks man :)
don't mind me, Just commenting for myself lol: 1) 0:07 use nair (ff or regular), shield, or sideB/bair (when they roll) - 1:19 space bair like this 2) 1:27 opponent mixups on dtilt to Dsmash 3) 2:13 dealing with low profiling from my aerials (ftilt instead?) - 2:57 spacing fair / sideB SSDS
I know I'm 2 months late but as with many watching this now, the Marth buffs are really reigniting my interest and drive in playing both these characters (yes I play both Marth and Lucina, don't judge). This is a video LITERALLY worth taking notes on
Down tilt tech-chasing is one of the biggest things I’m trying to improve on now, so your section about using down smash is super helpful. The last couple months, I’ve been working on nair 1 to up/forward smash confirms. I think it’s one of the most optimal whiff punishes in Lucina’s whole kit. Great video!
I like this video a lot. The video examples and using a actual player for the examples is very well done. Unlike pro guides, they use cpus. I'm actually give these tips a whirl
I secondary Lucina though I don't bring her out super often. These are gonna be super helpful, I see Leon using the dtilt d smash ALL the time and your edgeguarding is nice
Thank you for these tips Mr. E, it's so refreshing to learn again (and learning new ones) these tips from a Pro, so i know everyone would enjoy more videos like this one! In my personal case i would like to know how to Jab 1> Forward Smash more consistently, like tips for a beginner/intermediate smash player about the timing or other factors. When you make a video and don't assume everyone know the basics, then it catches bigger public for your videos!
As someone who doesn't watch smash competitions that much I used to only watch you and PB XD. Keep up with the great content man you are prolly the only top player who sticks with lucina.
Very amazing video, especially the ledge trapping portion. My Lucina is kind of chaotic at the ledge so this gives me a more methodical game plan I can use. I also had no idea down smash was useful in tech chase, I’ll try it. I can’t believe how useful this is for only being 4 minutes. I hope you make more Lucina guides in the future cause this one was awesome! Subscribed.
Short and sweet! Thanks for the tips... I know this ain't no Marth but I think I can utilise this all the same, just need to think sourspots rather than sweetspots for some of it.
Always great content. It can easily be hard to only talk about pretty much the only character you play in tournaments due to having limited content, but you always find great ways to help and make great content at the same time. I was thinking of making Marcina my secondaries since I learned tippers and how to set them up, so this really helped, but also my friend is thinking of a main and Lucina is top of his list so I’ll make sure to share it.
For oos options, you can also be doing ftilt or jab to cover low profiles more. Like yeah you gotta deal with the 11 frames of sheild drop but Lucina has a fast ftilt that start low and jab is the same way but a little faster so if for instance Pikachu pancakes off a crossup bair or Inkling does a fast fall fair on your sheild or something, it might be worth the 11 frames of sheild drop to opt for the increased low profile coverage. Those 11 frames can also low key cover the time they would spot dodge to avoid the generic super fast oos option like Up B or Usmash oos AND it may cause them to buffer DI down and give you tech chase.
I agree this is super helpful as a Lucina main! Any tips for playing against campy characters, like Banjo? Also how to deal with characters with quick options like Pikachu/ZSS?
Thanks for the tips I am actually Trying to have a roster like this and Do you think it would be Tournament viable?(I am planing to be picking them along the way not RN but as a Plan for when I am ACTUALLY good enough to pick other up) Main Byleth fits what I want nothing special just playstyle Lucina Secondary (you motivate me to do this and thank you) thanks that she only rewards fundamentals no crazy set-ups or crazy shit just skill and 0 cheese (except shield breaker lol) GnW pikachu and Inkling are the only MU I picked him for lul Thanks for this Tips this, Izaws and Art of Marth/Lucina and the Zero Spacing Video are THE best videos that together are the Best introduction for Competetive Smash
1. Do you use smash stick? I use tilt stick and performing a quick down smash like that seems like it could be harder that way. 2. For fade back spaced fairs, are you holding back on joystick and using c stick to fair? That’s what I do but it’s kind of tricky sometimes. 3. Is the jab lock guaranteed if they miss tech with proper execution? 4. I only really use bairs and up b for OOS options, are there any others? Like maybe dair? Like you said I especially use up b on short characters or for a faster punish. 5. What’s the benefit of an up smash tech chase as opposed to a dash back f-smash that has higher knockback at ledge? Do you always recommend only f smashing during a tech chase after a jablock? Sorry if the way I asked any of these questions was confusing!
1. Yup! 2. Yes I am! 3. Yup! 4. Dair and fair oos are good in certain situations too. If your back is faced towards ur opponent and they cross you up knowingly, you can fair sometimes. Also upsmash oos at high percent can work also! 5. Upsmash just seems easier to execute to me cause it covers so much and is fast. No need to dash back in that case cause you can just wait for the roll in and upsmash
this is helpful. i appreciated your low profile comment for OOS options. i am wondering if you think whiffing a dolphin slash is more unsafe than whiffing the bair OOS. i love dolphin slash's priority and speed but if i miss it i could get hard punished.
Yo! New smash player here and have choosen Lucina as my main after trying out different beginner characters. Any tips for beginner on what to focus on? So much stuff it can quite easy get overwhelming!
Practice down throw up airs at low percent! Practice Nair strings too, practice up b oos, Fair oos. Try to keep in mind always looking for sliding f tilt in neutral too!
Are there any more kill setups with lucina? I mainly use nair 1 into fsmash, but it’s not always possible. I will definitely integrate dtilt dsmash into my game though. Thanks for the tips
Mr.E, If I want to drift forward and micro space for my fairs, should I jump out of a dash? Or stop moving then jump from a stand still for more aerial drift control? They both have cons so I wanted to ask a pro player! If you have to stop dashing and come to a full stop it’s predictable, anyways thank you!
I think it's totally fine to do it out of a dash, I honestly don't think it makes that much of a difference honestly. It's not something I super think about tbh, jumping backwards with the short hop is important though !
Yes, I said tips for Lucina.. I made this road for myself and I'll go down with it if need be! I'm ready for the army 😤😤😤
Mr. E can you explain how to edge guard with lucina in deep ? And like when to aerial out of shield instead of up b ?
Jean kevin Branlouis you aerial out of shield with Lucina when up b doesn’t reach. Up b catches low profiling but it doesn’t have nearly as much horizontal range as bair or fair OOS
@@chlomeursmasheur5144 to add to what drake said up b out of shield is also much faster. Me too XD

Same dude
Really love this content, people think Lucina is basic just cause she doesn’t have super long strings but really there’s so much stuff to think about and optimize during a match
FACTS I realized this watching more of Mr. E and even Protobanham, they say she's "linear" but I think that seems to be far from the truth.
@Megami I may have to disagree but everyone can have their opinion
@Megami I think you have to study just as much as all the other characters just in other ways but I’m not here to argue so have a nice day 😄
@Megami Listen I don’t wanna talk about if a character is simple or not on a youtube comment section, think what you want xD see ya peace ✌️
@Megami Think what you want, what can I say xD
She has no tippers tho, how can you give me tips with Lucina if she has no tipper?
Boooo
she doesn't need one??? of course you might've been sarcastic but, she got nerfed in fsmash cause that bitch killed earlier than marth WITH tipper LOL
LMFAO
@@GrayFox8983 It was a pun smh
@@sagegang6957 I got that lol.
Honestly amoung the top tier she’s one of the most honest characters. I have a sword and a counter, watch the sword and don’t attack recklessly
