Not only was your instruction spot on, but the way your dark skin tone shows up and really helps illustrate your choices. Dark tones are hard to capture accurately, and you clearly know what you are doing. I’m now a subscriber. Thank you.
Great tips as usual. If anyone is thinking about buying the OMA4 it would be great if you used the link in the description to help the channel. As Tesco says "Every little helps"😊
Most folk get way to bogged down in settings etc, which is great for the really serious video creator, but for the majority of us normal folk ,we just want be able to switch the thing on and point and shoot, with a little bit of help from folks like you. Just ordered the 4 to go with my 3 and now I can ditch my GOPRO(still better quality imho, but can't be bothered with freezing issues and loss of footage etc)Great video . 👍
Good. I've just sold my DJI Osmo Action 3, and will be ordering the DJI Osmo Action 4 Adventure Combo b'cause I need that larger sensor (while retaining a waterproof option) for low light 4k walk videos as the 3 is weak with this. Will get the Pocket 3 maybe by the end of this year but will keep my Pocket 2. Also have a Sony a7c for night events like fireworks, and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra for on the go.
Thank you Tamara for the tips, I love your vids so informative. Thanks a lot. I just got my action 4 and you helped me a lot by your vids. God bless...
Interesting video, thanks for sharing it. I will download your filming guide to give me a head start on setup of my new Osmo Action 4- thanks for offering it and the Booster LUT.

Got my camera to record my fishing adventures now I’m retired so will definitely be subscribing to your channel for more hints tips and advice. Thank you so much once again
Great vid. I appreciate how you give practical tips too, like where to stand regarding the sun. For people new to vlogging that kind of advice is awesome. Thanks.
Great video, thank you! I also feel like shadows seem a bit softer in D-Log M than Normal mode, Normal seems to be a bit more aggressive when it comes to light and noise reduction - but that might just be my experience
I can’t remember but you can dial-in the gain until the green audio bar at the top of the screen stretches to the far right without going into the orange. The gain will depend on how loud you talk, the placement of the mic, and the noise in the environment.
Hi Gabriel, really appreciated for the tips, additionally I think your color grading for the Dlog M looks a little bit blue-ish, you can use a drawer mask in FCPX to locate the white and black to see it more clear.
The audio of your video both on the street with the DJI and in the studio is super good, could you make a video explaining how you achieve it? I can't have such good audio on my channel
Thankyou sister. I just got my gizmo this morning and i am going for a holiday tomorrow and these settings are like alien to me . Earlier i was using my iphone to capture footage . And this action 4 with manual settings like rocket science . I hope with your pdf i could get nice footage so that i can tag you if you are okey if people like me with action 4 needs help . Thanks again ❤
Do you have low light image enhancement on or off when setting the EV below 0? I shoot in 4k 30fps normal color because I don't color grade in editing. have my ev at 0 and low light image enhancement off. Shoot videos at a higher movement speeds in and out of the woods so lots of sun and shade. Would you suggest still moving below 0 for a better quality video?
Hi Tamara, I’m confused by frame rates, I’ve always had it on 30fps on my old action DJI but the Action 4 says I should use 25fps in the UK. What’s your recommendations? Many thanks Darren
Hey Darren. The frame rate recommendation is generally down to electrical frequency. In the UK it’s 50 Hz which is why 25 fps is recommended. It’ll generally stop lights flickering, however this is only true if you also adjust your shutter speed manually. So from an aesthetics point of view, it comes down to personal preference. I typically go for 25 fps because it looks less real life soap opera than 30 fps.
Nice tips! I just picked up an Action 4 this week. I have normal color set to -0.3EV too. I found out the free version of DaVinci Resolve doesn't read the D LOG M files correctly unless I transcode the footage. So sticking to standard for now.

Hello Tamara Again a great video. Thank you for the free materials you gave. Your LUTs are always good ! OA4 is really a great camera, with a very nice and natural footage.
Love your videos Tamera, and after seeing everyone talk about the Action 4 today I bought one for myself. I love the idea of it. I love the stabilization. I love the size and form factor. I love the quick start up feature. I love the batteries that it came with. I love the mounts. I even love the app. But I am not in love with the 4K image quality. I hate it! Its garishly over sharpened. In sunlight I can see every pore on my face and every imperfection seems exaggerated. In shadows my face looks like a buttery mess! The frames are filled with noise even when shooting in bright sunlight, and it has a hard time exposing for shadows or darker areas of the frame. Further, I love everything the wide angle lens pulls into the field of view, but I hate the distortion that comes with it. Even with the Dewarp FOV setting I see improvement but can’t seem to straighten out all the lens distortion . Its also hard getting things level and straight in the frame. I’m one who is not looking to do a lot of monkeying with the footage in post, and want good results straight out of the camera. I was wanting this to be my every day carry camera, so I’m going to see how things grow on me over the next 30 days. Still, I’m not throwing away the receipt.
@@TamaraGabrielUK thanks for the reply, yes I saw your video were you discuss this setting and the -2 sharpness was too soft for me. I went to sharpness=0 and did +1 on the noise reduction, which did seem to knock down a lot of the noise but not all on my face. I’m going to play around with this over the next few days to see if I can dial this in. I really hope there is a good setting because I really like everything else about this little thing!
@@Cthames123 Hello! If you want a great image ont of the box and if you don't need an action cam (you make quiet videos) I recommand you to buy the Pocket 3. For me it's perfect, even in normal profile, 1080p or 4k... And the face tons are really good. :) (one gimbal a day, one gimbal always, do you say that in UK? :) ) Cheers from France and Thanks to Tamara I'm really happy to follow you :)
@@MichaelSouverain thanks for the reply! I’m from Chicago, (USA), so not familiar with the British vernacular! I ultimately returned my action 4. Great form factor, great startup time, but too many issues with the quality. It was not better than an older cell phone with a cell phone gimbal, (Sony XZ2), which I was/still am using and I still had to produce $330 USD for it, (a good price but not free). I can’t get warm to the pocket 3 ideal mainly because it is too darn expensive, ($670) and there are cheaper alternatives to vlogging. The Pocket 3 is no doubt a fantastic device, but for how I shoot, first person vlogging, I think I’ll stay with my cell phone with gimbal setup. I’m not getting a 1in sensor, so I know I’d be limited in low light but I shoot in daylight 95% of the time. Thanks for recommending the Pocket 3, maybe I’ll return to this thought if the price drops by 50%.
Hey! Great video. I’ve just received my Osmo Action 4 to use on my trip to New York tomorrow (21/09) I wanted to know what would be the best ideal settings for video capture, as I’ve never used an action camera before. I don’t plan on editing my footages. Thanks again! 🙏
Great video! Do you have any advice on shooting in low light nightclub settings at 4K 60FPS with lots of flashing lights without getting too much grain and noise?
Great video, what setting do you recommend for image adjustment, I have set it to -2 for both. Also which rocksteady mode do you recommend? RS, RS+ or HB?
I have the Osmo action 4. On a sunny day it looks awesome. But things change on a cloudy day as you said. Also in a cityscape action camera footages look good. But if you take it to some greenery where lighting is tricky, it gets worse. You can see details are missing when lights come through tree leaves. Exposure adjustment and HDR fails in most cases. I would say Gopro has definitely a better image quality than Osmo action, but Gopros are really really buggy and useless. DJI is far better in terms of functionality. If you dont really need water proof feature and not going to use for action shots, i would recommend to get the DJI pocket 3 that was released last week, it has a 1 inch sensor. Really disappointing that the Action 4 released a month ago still uses a 1/1.3 inch sensor 🥲 I will probably sell my OA4 when the 1 inch action cam comes out.
Hi Tamara! The lut you mentioned for normal colour (with booster lut) is not in the describtion, can you provide me with the link to downlowad it. Thanks!

Hello Tamara, I’ve been vlogging my travels casually but recently just bought Action 4 thanks to your review. Just have a quick question, what free editing software can you recommend for not so tech savvy when it comes to editing videos?
Oh cool! A good beginner-friendly editor is CapCut. It’s really easy to use and it’s free. I’ll be running a video editing for beginners workshop next week, that you might find useful too ☺️ www.tamaragabriel.uk/video-editing-for-complete-beginners-workshop
Thanks Tamara for this video. The footage out of the Action 4 looks amazing and colors true to life as expected with DJI. One question I had however : did you record this video in 30 or 60 fps and from your experience with the camera, does the dynamic range remain the same whether you shoot in 30 or 60 fps? Many thanks and have a great weekend, Stephane
You are doing great videos and you talk Nice and slow also yo explain things in a easy way. I am watching a lot of review on this action 4 camera. Most likely that i Will buy this instead of GoPro 11. And i hit the subscibe button so now i am a Happy subsciber on your chanel
Hey Tamara, thanks for the detailed video everytime. I would like to know if the LUTs you are selling are good for every scenario? Like I make travel vlogs which includes food as well. So, will it work for me? I am really thinking to buy from you.
Thanks Tamara for the helpful video and especially for the Action 4 Beginners’ guide! I recently purchased an Action 4 and have found your resources invaluable! 🙂 Just a quick question, as I’m learning to use the manual exposure mode- Do you recommend a minimum shutter speed and a maximum ISO? Some RUclipsrs say that anything below a 1/200 shutter speed negatively affects the stabilisation and that anything over 1600 ISO introduces too much noise.
You’re welcome 😊 Yeah, if you try to stay above 1/200 then the stabilisation won’t be affected. But yes, the higher the ISO the more noise, but sometimes it’s necessary to increase the ISO beyond 1600 to actually see what’s going on in the frame. Otherwise you can drop the shutter speed and use a gimbal.
Hello, I have an Osmo Action 4 device... I cannot activate the low light image improvement in the video section... It is always disabled, that is, it is off. What is the reason? How can I fix it?
I am new to using action camera for videos. May I ask for this particular vlog style video, did you shoot in 60fps or 30fps? What would be your recommendation in general? Also, for most social media purpose of viewing, do you think it is necessary to shoot at 4K? Cheers and great video.
I shot in 25fps. I choose 4K as it gives the best quality. It’s not so noticeable on a phone, but on laptops, computer screens, TVs, it is. There’s a link to a free filming guide in the description that you can download with all my settings 😊
I enjoyed the video you uploaded.😊 I also think it's a little bright when shooting in normal colors during the daytime on a sunny day, so I'm shooting in the same setting, but you're doing the same setting. ^^ Thank you for the great tip. And I think there's a strange phenomenon when shooting with a normal color instead of one D-Log M, but there seems to be a phenomenon where the brightness suddenly changes from bright to dark (or, conversely, from dark to bright) to 0.5 to 1 step automatically, but didn't you notice that? ISO is shooting in a fixed state. I'm so curious.🤔
wow thanks Tamara for sharing this and i wanted to say that your luts are awesome they let me look rivers and sky really natural but also vibrant in my videos. i was very confused about this d-log profile because i am new to this and thought that it would take a whole effort to learn color grading but i just wanted to have decent footage and this luts make it so easy and are on point. the osmo 4 is always with me now🐶and your tips help a lot to understand more of this topic, with friendly greetings
Any tips for handling that exposure change like 5:31? When you go into more shaded area, your faces goes really dark. It's like DJI isn't face priority exposure. This doesn't happen in GoPro or insta360 pro ace
So here's a possibly odd request for a video - how you shot the thumbnail for this video. I struggle with taking photos of my gear especially those with LED/touch-screens. They either get blown out or just can't get the focus perfect. This thumbnail is sharp and got me to stop my scroll too. Just curious. Thanks
@TamaraGabrielUK Thanks for the video. I have a question. How do you stop the camera bouncing when you're walking? I can't seem to stop my camera from bouncing with every step I take, and I've tried all the settings. Thanks

Yeah, if you try to stay above 1/200 then the stabilisation won’t be affected. But yes, the higher the ISO the more noise, but sometimes it’s necessary to increase the ISO beyond 1600 to actually see what’s going on in the frame. Otherwise you can drop the shutter speed and use a gimbal.
Great! 🙂 Thanks so much for the quick reply!
Hello, I have an Osmo Action 4 device... I cannot activate the low light image improvement in the video section... It is always disabled, that is, it is off. What is the reason? How can I fix it?
Try lowering the resolution/ frame rate ? Don’t know if this will work
Yes, frame rate should be 30 or lower
Beautiful video ... 🤩
@@TamaraGabrielUK thanks for the prompt response. I will check it out and look forward to your future videos/posts.
Love ur video, what’s the name of the song that comes in @ minute 1:46?
Thank you for the info, I will try and apply your suggestions to my DJI Osmo Action 3.
P.S. Also, you're very pretty :) .
Helo! Video compression is HEVC or H.264? If HEVC which is the best or good hevc codec program?
I use HEVC and edit in FCPX. Works it Capcut too and most editing softwares.
@@TamaraGabrielUK Thank you🥰🙏
Hey Lov ? which you like better hero 10 or DJI Osmo Thanks

Hi! I went to Disneyland world and the 🌞 part of the day my Action 🎬 4 videos were bright. Whats you recommendation, maybe a ND filter or ????. Thx!
I'd drop the EV meter to -0.7 or -1 EV
@TamaraGabrielUK Thank you and where can I find you 'cheat sheet"?
The link’s in the description. The filming guide. It has the cheat sheet on the page
wow thanks Tamara for sharing this and i wanted to say that your luts are awesome they let me look rivers and sky really natural but also vibrant in my videos. i was very confused about this d-log profile because i am new to this and thought that it would take a whole effort to learn color grading but i just wanted to have decent footage and this luts make it so easy and are on point. the osmo 4 is always with me now🐶and your tips help a lot to understand more of this topic, with friendly greetings
That’s great 😁 I’m glad they’ve been working well for you.
Thanks
You can't really, all you can do is the ninja walk.
hey Tamara if you are set -2 sharpness on camera how much sharpness do you add on premiere?
That's up to what look you prefer
Very good vid thanks 👍
You're welcome
I think the normal colour profile looks more natural then the dlog
