Hey man, keep this shit going, you got mad skills. Ive just watched you cover 5 unique styles that individually are subtle and nuanced and you smashed ALL of them. I've been djing longer than you've been alive and it took me all those years to learn what you covered in this video in 10 mins. Mad respect from someone who knows more than u, but is awed by your skills and mastery of music theory and simple hands on implementation for new artists finding their sound. I'll find you through your online content. Keep bangin' Coco. You are elite.
Hey Coco, it's me ur biggest fan. I wasn't bullshitin that I appreciate your skills because I'm back here on your channel as I begin my journey into music production. My background is as a dj so I have all the knowledge of style and genre, but I'm getting into more subtle aspects that are over my head. For example. I'm trying 2 diff styles of music production, 1 is traditional laptop w a DAW(I've got fruity loops and traktor) and midi keyboard. The other is more ... Unique. I'm doing full production on IPad only. With that said , I am a true believer in beatmaker 3 and IMPC PRO 2 on IPAD for laying down decent tracks . Now I'm much farther behind the learning curve of IPad because I'm still getting used to no knobs. Different software choices. iOS vs windows / android. I am slower on IPAd at the moment but In the long run I see much bigger upside to doing iPAD only music production. But here is where I need your help. I do see the wisdom in having an external unit drum machine like you play on, to give the subtlety that IPad can't give. My question is, is the improvement in quality it the flexibility of the drum machine itself, or is it in the software you run (beatmaker 3 and IMPC PRO 2 are both respected but how many IPad producers are actually out there?)is it the machine or the software that is the real cause of better output and tracks? I'd like to get your opinion on the matter if you don't mind. (IE invest in external hardware or pay the crazy $ for the software like Ableton , cubase , pro logic etc) Thx Coco. Sorry for the length of this message.
@@arsan9933 Nice, the iPad setup sounds like it could be pretty fun! Both hardware and software are endless rabbit holes that you can sink an infinite amount of money and time into. I would say what’s more important than both of those is your personal creative vision, style, and musical ability. The hardware and software are just tools to express the ideas that you have. So someone could have $500,000 worth of gear and make some garbage, while someone else might make some truly epic music on a mobile iPhone app. With that said though, I have found Ableton to be an amazing DAW for quickly sketching out ideas and making tons of quick edits and explorations. Also anything that you can get your hands on your sound will help with getting more embodied and physically connected to your music, which will always make it feel and sound more human and interesting. If you want to get into professional music production I think something like an Akai MPK Mini and Ableton Live Lite would be an incredible starting point and you can build from there as specific limitations come up for you. Hope that helps! 💖
I'm just getting into finger drumming on a sp-404. This is blowing my mind, the bigger pads have so much more than I ever thought. Definitely giving me goals.
Hey, I'm a recent subscriber. I'm eally enjoying your videos bro. The finger drumming technique videos are super helpful and I'm really getting a lot from the Creative Psychology stuff too. Your persona on camera is very refreshing and natural. I'll be going back through you other videos for sure. Thank you for your great work.
Ah thanks so much! Glad you're digging it, lots more where this came from. Let me know if there are any e-drumming or creativity psych topics you want me to cover next. 🤓
So glad the RUclips algorithm helped to me find your channel. Thanks for all of this free knowledge. I support the concept of making resources available to all who may not have enough to pay for an expensive course. I’ll show my support by liking your videos, but also is there a way to support you like bandcamp or something like that?
Aw thanks so much, I’m so happy it’s connecting with you, that’s exactly why I do it. :) I see you found the links, but I’m also starting a Patreon very soon which will have tons of fun ways to get involved and support my work! Make sure you’re subscribed so you hear when it launches 🚀🤠
Yo how do you go about placing your drum sounds?? Is that layout just what you eventually found out works for you or is that common in the finger drumming community??
I have a background in jazz drum set and marching percussion before I got into all this electronic stuff. So this is just the style that I’ve personally developed. From what I’ve seen with other finger drummers it seems to be pretty unique. And it’s definitely different than all the “finger drumming courses” and semi-official technique guides I’ve seen. But it works for me! I have a whole video on my layout if you wanna check it out! It’s called “How to arrange your Ableton drum rack” ruclips.net/video/dtx9RS7xC6s/видео.htmlsi=ExoL_RhBJVvrcS4B
Dope video ! You could add a "Boom Bap" chapter (similar to Lo Fi but it has its own characteristics, I'm 41 y.o. so I grew up with this style 🙂), a "Drill" one and maybe a "West Coast" (different from your Bay chapter, which is dope). Salute from Paris ! I really dig your content
Boom bap is dope! There's waayyyy more than 5 genres of hip-hop, these are just the ones I've been playing lately. But it sounds like I might need to do a sequel to this one sometime!
