    Paused it where you showed a page and just tried it out. Really liked how this is laid out so I ordered it. Can't wait for it to come in so I have more patterns to practice. I just got a Roland sp-404 mkii as my first bit of gear and have never done any finger drumming. I come from a guitar background like somebody else here said and this makes perfect sense.

    Very thankful to have gotten a copy for myself. Starting with zero experience. Very hopeful to be able to put it to good use. This is exactly what I needed.
    Would you have a guess for how long it would take a total beginner to make it to intermediate level? Trying to get solid with finger drumming and piano at the same time.

    • @abletoncoach
      @abletoncoach  3 месяца назад

      Hey! :) Thanks for picking up a copy! I hope it helps you excel quickly :)
      Hmm well, it varies from person to person of course, so I couldn't make an estimate. However, some tips to keep in mind are:
      1. Frequent and consistent practice is better overall than random, longer practice sessions. Set a time every day to practice and stick to it! (if you can get 30 minutes in each day of deliberate practice, you'll see a quick improvement)
      2. After you're warmed up in a practice session (it might take 5-10 minutes to feel warmed up), focus on the hard stuff. If there is a beat you're working on that feels super challenging, practice the difficult row/rows repeatedly at a VERY slow tempo. You'll find that after making a slow and deliberate effort to memorize the difficult stuff, the next day it'll be slightly easier. Rinse and repeat until you can do the beat without thinking!
      3. Be patient with yourself! It's great that you are also learning piano. Both of these instruments require hand and finger independence. As you strengthen the muscles in your hands, you'll see improvements in your ability to play both of the instruments!
      4. Focus on timing! always practice to a metronome if you can. Even if you set the metronome to 60BPM or slower, having that consistent pulse will help your sense of timing in the long run!
      For me, I find that it takes about three to four practice sessions before I feel like I've committed a difficult beat to muscle memory.
      I hope that helps! Please keep me posted with your progress, and if you have any more questions, reach out any time!! :)
      Happy Finger Drumming!

    I've been trying to find the right placement for each drum sound on a 16 pad grid, is this optimal in your experience? what was your thoughts on the layout (i.e. does it mimic a standard drum kit?)

    • @abletoncoach
      @abletoncoach  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for the question! The pad layout used in the book has some similarities to an acoustic kit, with the toms and crash/spash positioned near the top and the kick and snares in closest proximity. The layout was designed with ergonomics in mind and recommends using your pad setup at an angle (like a diamond) so that both hands have equal access to all of the pads. The intention behind the “Standard Pad Layout” is to aid in building muscle memory so you don’t have to look at your hands so frequently as you familiarize yourself with the placement. There are definitely pros and cons to each pad layout, depending on the type of rhythms you’re performing, but I find this layout very comfortable and versatile. But keep in mind that I made the book, so I’m a bit biased :b

      Hey @brianmilo! Thanks for picking up a copy of the book and for your awesome comment :) I'm glad you're enjoying the book so far!

      Thanks for your question! Although the book does provide the recommended hand positioning, I’ve left it up the the user to determine which fingers they use to trigger each pad (whether they play with both hands or one).
      Indicators for specific recommended finger order is a feature I’ll be including in Volume 2, however :)

      Hey there! Thank you for picking up a copy of the Finger Drum Bible. I'm excited that you're starting your finger drum journey!! Please feel welcome to reach out with any questions about finger drumming as you have them :)
      As for your question about gear, thats always a tricky decision! I'm happy to give you my opinion though! Well, If I were faced with that choice, I would likely go with the Maschine MK3. The reasons I'm leaning toward this choice is because it can be used as an audio interface, which means you'll be able to record a single input into your computer from the device, which will be perfect for plugging a guitar or microphone into (as long as you have an XLR to 1/4" adapter/cable for the mic). The benefit you'd get from starting with the MK3 is that if you ever decide to upgrade to the standalone version, you'll already be familiar with the button layout and workflow. I hope this helps your decision! :) Happy Finger Drumming!
