Solent Ships is operated from Town Quay, the Old Town quarter of Southampton, where the Mayflower departed 400 years ago.
Utilising various cameras our small crew are dedicated in providing a window onto our historic waterfront in the Solent region. The ‘Captain’ of our crew is a licenced drone pilot and day skipper, with an added passion for photography.
This channel has a large library of drone footage, documenting (with commentary) the various vessels that sail by one of the busiest Ports in the UK. At Solent Ships, you can also access 24 hour live streaming video of the day-to-day movements of all shapes and sizes of marine traffic, an ever-changing view that is enjoyed by cruise ship enthusiasts and water watchers worldwide.

Definitely jam first !
Jam first every time, there's no other correct way. Also you pronounced it just right 😉
Phew.... At least I got something right shipmate
Certainly cream first ,as I look upon the cream as a substitute for butter.
I can see what you are saying shipmate
Ah, loving seeing local Southampton stuff - great idea! For me, it's jam first then topped with cream!
I was expecting, Jam, slice of Haggis, then Cream on top shipmate
Cream, then jam, no butter
Gotta admit…jam first looks better. Sorry cream first people.
Popular choice there, shipmate.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, jam first makes most sense! It's physics!! 🤣
Also, note the presence of butter on the plate there. Seems it IS a thing to have it with a cream tea!! 🤔🤣
Yes, it did come with butter, but I didn't put it on shipmate. The physics argument is a good one.
Definitely jam first then cream,no butter.
Cream first, it's a dairy product, you wouldn't put jam on toast first then the butter.
You make a good point shipmate
Well done Captain , total hero putting your body on the line in the interests of a critical argument .
Trust the Doom Bar slipped down nicely !
The Doom Bar went rather well, with the cream tea, shipmate. Will have add a few more miles to the bike ride, to compensate
@@SolentShips Can't be good all the time Captain🤔
And a considerably bigger scone, I bake them every week !
I suppose you could just have two shipmate.
Butter, jam then cream!!
I didn't mention the butter shipmate
@@SolentShips But I saw it on your plate Captain so couldn'y leave it out. 🤭
Cream first for sure!
The Dveon way shipmate
@@SolentShips Learned from a friend from Devon! 😉
Not to mention pronunciation! Just as hotly contested 😉
I think I got away with it shipmate
My variation: jam on first then a dollop of cream on top with each bite - ie, not all at once. Also, the jam and cream should be removed from their pots & put separately on the plate. 😊
Very particular shipmate, but I like the sound of that, keeping the cream ratio high.
Capt Solent, it happens to be the Devon way that jam spreads better on a hard cream and not the other way. There’s a logic to it and more presentable that way. June of London
Thanks shipmate, makes sense.
Jam first and cream on top, yum!
Yum indeed shipmate
Butter to hold the ample portion of jam in place and then a generous helping of cream on top.
Sounds like architecture, shipmate.
If you had a jam sandwich you would spread the butter first and then the jam. Clotted cream is a dairy product similar to butter so this should go on first then the jam.
The Royal family are too involved with the Duchy of Cornwall to do the correct thing.
From a Devonian.
You make a good point, shipmate
Cornish maid here, jam first always. ❤️
Thanks maid, shipmate
Traditionally it is important that the scones be warm (ideally, freshly baked), and that clotted (rather than whipped) cream and strawberry jam, rather than any other variety, be used. Butter is generally not included, and some sources advise that the tea should not be served with milk.... But for me bring it on any way you like, I am sure I will manage to devour it. esspecialy if the captain is buying.
Cream teas on me, shipmate
Ok science time (and having a Cornish Mum and a very Cornish Grandma). Traditionally the scone (pronounced SC-OWN) is served warm, and the jam first method was to stop the cream from melting into a runny mess, it was a barrier. Not an issue now as I have yet to have a cream tea with a warm scone in decades.
That makes s lot of sense, shipmate. I certainly don remember the list time I was served a warm one.
Definitely jam first. You can much more cream on the scone that way.
That's a good point, shipmate
Cream first, although I’d happily eat either 😋
I agree shipmate, happy to eat either.
Everybody knows that it's jam first !!!!!
So they say shipmate
Jam first then cream. Butter’s not necessary.
Never gave the butter much thought, shipmate
Hello Captain here in NSW Australia definitely jam and then cream on one's scone Regards Lynne🙃
Thanks shipmate. Always good to get an idea from down under
Butter jam cream xx
Another for butter, shipmate
i take the scone, cut in half, put butter on then jam and lots of cream on top lol🙂
Butter is an outside choice, shipmate
@@SolentShips Thanks for the reply, Just love the channel!
Jam first look at your presentation, All of this including the Doom Bar are available each day on the QM2 😊
Booking a cruse on the QM2, shipmate
@@SolentShipsMe too going to Norway in July..
Cream first is the only way, the Devon way, the inventors of clotted cream and pasties!
Pasties, let's not get started on that one, shipmate
Jam first then cream
Popular choice, shipmate
Either, it makes no difference once you chew it up and swallow it.
Yum Yum, shipmate
Jam first then cream 👍
Thanks shipmate
Jam first of course shipmates
Of course, shipmate
Shipmates be sensible, clotted cream first then the jam. Trying to do it the other way would be like trying to sail the sea on top of a ship.....
You make a good analogy shipmate
Jam and then cream ❤
Popular choice shipmate
The Cornish way.
Thanks shipmate
Cream first, ❤
Thanks shipmate
Devon born and bred cream first then jam.
Seems to be the Devon way, shipmate
Doesn’t matter what order just turn it upside down and it’s reversed.
Ah, the Australian version shipmate.
Jam first then you can pile on the cream!
More cream shipmate.....
Jam frist
Thanks shipmate
As my father came from Plymouth got to be cream first
I'm sure he would shipmate.
Jam first!!
Jam first , thats it. Whats wrong with folk ?
Someone has to be different shipmate
@@SolentShips it was a shite attempt at humour 🤣. I'm a butter only kinda guy myself .
