I can't speak for all of us, but Furries don't really "identify as being an animal". Many people are confusing the fandom with Otherkin. We just like anthropomorphic animals. Cosplay (fursuiting) is just a part of a very large fandom. Many us us don't have or can't afford those beautiful works of wearable art. We celebrate the fun in myriad ways.

I mostly agree with you. I am a furry myself but you wont be able to tell if you interact with me in a normal setting. I find it disturbing that some people believe being a furry means that person believes they are an animal..... being a furry is just like you identified as a "sport fan", a "tech geek" or "audiophile".... its just a hobby..... a hobby you are very into. It may start to seek into your normal life which I think is ok to a certain point. For sport fan, they might use their favorite sport team lanyard for their work id.... use sport logo mug/wristband.... For audiophile, you may use all the good audio gear in their day to day life... for furry, its just having a furry phone wallpaper. Maybe some furry stickers on their laptop. Etc.... they are just normal people with a hobby.
I do agree there exists furries who may cross those lines of "just a hobby" but I dont want those minority to be the description of being a furry.

Thanks for watching! It sounds like you're mainly talking about otherkin or therian, which do seem different to us as well. We were kind of saying this in another comment, but it does still seem like there's a difference between something like playing a sport and being a furry though, because the one is just a behavior and the other often involves stepping into this new identity. Would you agree with that?

    • @lolalovescats9065

I know you weren't asking ME, but being a furry is just a hobby, it's not really an identity. However, it is pretty different from being a sports fan. It's a community. The furry community is there for one another. They are supportive of each other. Of course, there are always a few bad apples, as there are in any fandom, but the good ones always have one another's backs. It's a way to feel like you can be supported, whether you're lgbt, straight, neurodivergent, just "different" in some way, or even without anything like this. You can even be a straight, non-neurodivergent person who isn't very different from anyone else you meet on the street. That's why we love it so much. It's all-inclusive and supportive.

      Dear colleague
I hope this message finds you well and in harmony with your reflections. Allow me to address a matter of delicate importance: the choice of image that represents you in the digital realm. While it is undeniable that a "furry" themed avatar may evoke certain nuances of individuality and creativity, it can inadvertently be perceived as inconsistent with the gravity and strength one might wish to project in certain social and professional circles.*
Therefore, with all due respect and consideration, I would suggest transitioning to an icon that captures the essence of rebellion and power that "rock" embodies so well. A skull, for instance, is not merely a symbol of mortality, but an emblem of resistance, challenge to conventions, and alignment with a culture of unyielding strength.
Consider this change as a strategic step towards a more dynamic presence that aligns with the indomitable spirit, which I am certain resides within you.
With my highest wishes for success and authenticity.

Very well done. Great job addressed a real cultural issue in a way that leads to compassion and understanding without shying from a biblical perspective. Love the questions at the end. The nuance of your approach is much appreciated too. Why are we so quick to believe these things? Why do we react the way we do? What is the deeper search beneath the movement? What does the Bible say about our nature and identity? I'm impressed guys.
AND (sorry thought I was done)...the choice of locations and cinematic shots interwoven with the personal story was very compelling. Way to put us in the shoes of someone thinking through this. Lots of work went into this and it was AWESOME.

Being a young furry is pretty hard. Online, you're mostly shot out with death threats and hate just because they find it weird, It's a struggle but it makes me feel happy and it is not going to stop me from doing what I love, which is being a furry. It's not all about the NSFW stuff, it's mostly never, it's just people who just wanna have fun, help, and support others, all we wanna do is bring joy.
Edit: It's just a hobby nothing more, harmless. Then again people mostly look into the negative of things, never the positive. It's also good to get information from a very well-known person from the fandom than someone who isn't.

So being a furry is similar to drag or cosplay. It's a way of taking parts of your identity and to amplify it or to completely become someone different for a moment. It's a form of escape.

Finding it weirder than that is fine, but also understanding that they are just humans like the rest of us trying to find their way when you have one who needs your support.
I guess what I'm trying to say is you can be both accepting of it and weirded out by it at the same time and this is perfectly OK :).

I think you're a bit off on your understanding of furries here. Being a furry is mostly just a hobby, for many, and while it may help some people feel more themselves in some way, it's not JUST that. Imagine if someone picked up a sport, and it helped them be more confident and sure of themselves. It's similar to any activity like that.
The trans community and furry community are very adjacent, but are not the same thing. Those people who made those claims were doing so while arguing about bathroom rights for trans students. You are right that there is no evidence of actual liter boxes in schools. That rumor was started by internet trolls who thought it would troll both sides of that particular agenda, and it worked.

    • @axisconversations
      @axisconversations  11 месяцев назад +1

Thanks for watching! It actually sounds like we mostly agree. I do see your point about sports but I think there's still a significant difference since picking up a sport is an action and becoming a furry is more like taking on a new identity.

    (As a furry myself)
    I’d say I 100% don’t identify as a furry, or an animal.
I am a straight white 14 year old male. For me, being a furry is interacting with the community, drawing art, hanging out, helping others, and cosplaying.
For me at least there is a time and place to wear furry things. A furry shirt or hoodie is fine for wearing everywhere but ears/tails, let alone parts of a fursuit are semi-strictly for Halloween, conventions, hangouts, and when your at home.
I think that school is pretty much a kid’s version of work for them, and as such they should at least dress decently, I.e. hoodie, sweatpants, but when you incorporate more and more furry things into your look, there comes a border between appropriate and inappropriate.
A furry shirt, hoodie, or sweatpants is fine. Gloves with designs on them is fine, but then there are full on furry gloves, ears, and tails.
Which as I made clear before is unacceptable to wear in the school.
And beyond the furry border is the Therian border
A Therian believes that they are an animal spiritually, or acts like it sometimes.
But even with that, there is a time and a place.
My last point, beyond the Therian line is this stuff
People who *actually 100%* believe they are animals and act like it all the time, being constantly on all fours, barking, etc.
This is most likely due to mental delusion or disorder. When people ask for litter boxes to be in the school, something is *seriously* wrong with them
But that is just my opinion :3

If we were to identify as animals that would be trans species it’s where you want to change the species who are instead of being a human let’s say you’re really into Kats if you want to be a cat that doesn’t make you free that makes you trans species being a furry it’s just a hobby some thing we like to do, as you said we’re about anthropomorphic animals not about being an animal something that sort of relates to that is the alterhuman community, where you have some sort of connection with being an animal in your past life but then there’s also other connections you can have to animals and then there’s specie dysphoria where you feel like you are not your actual species hope this helps out I don’t know if it will but but : )

While it's understandable for a shy person to find confidence in playing a different character, the danger there is that people are actually taking on another persona. Some, whether knowing it or not, are allowing spirits to enter their bodies and control them. I notice that most or all of the people who identify as something other than what God made them to be also say that they have mental health issues. Instead of bringing healing, the authorities and adults in their lives are encouraging them to take their brokenness to the max.

    • @axisconversations
      @axisconversations  Год назад +2

Thanks for watching, Pamela. You bring up some interesting points. I think there's an important distinction here between furries and people who identify as "otherkin" or "therian," both of which seem to actually believe they really are an animal or some other non-human thing. As for your point about spirits, as Christians, we definitely believe that in a spiritual world, there will always be some sort of spiritual component to everything we do. But having said that, a recommendation we've heard pretty consistently from Christians who work in mental health spaces is that it's often good to try to address natural causes before supernatural causes. For example, if adjusting someone's diet and the amount of exercise they get can help reduce their anxiety, that can often be more straightforward than trying to pursue something like deliverance ministry-although we do believe there are also things that can have direct spiritual causes. Obviously these are massive topics, so feel free to email us at support@axis.org if you have further questions! Thanks again for watching.

My daughter who is a twenty something is heavily into this, which has also led her to join the alphabet group. She has stopped communication with me because of what I guess is her fear of conviction. You are correct when you say this is a way for them to feel confident, and she was also into theater when she was younger. After theater came an interest in anime which I noticed was very gender bending. Escape is never the answer but a full acceptance of who we are in Christ. I pray that my daughter is able to come out of this lifestyle and come back to her family. Please make more videos and articles about this mental health phenomenon capturing Americas children and young adults, it has been flying under the radar for a while.

@@normaray3901 I would if she would speak with me, she seems to be happy going from job to job. She had a state job at one time but quit because she didn't want to work from home. Now she wants to work for the state again. I had her in a Christian college once but she quit that also. She is lost, that is why she has embraced this alternate persona.

If you don't want the publics opinion then why do you insist on making your hobby a public display ? I agree with SherryCororan7533 Save it for Art or drama class and stop demanding so much attention on yourself. Are you really ignored that much? And to all you teachers involved in this. Are you preparing your students to go out into the real world ,or are you teaching them to be annoying?

@@normaray3901 now I do agree with your statements, but I wish people wouldn’t go into something so blindly. All I was trying to do was state facts about the community. I am sorry if I offended you in anyway, have a good rest of your day.

I'm a furry, its just a fun silly little hobby. It has nothing to do with using litter boxes, barking (anti furries bark more than furries), etc. It has nothing to do with my identity.
For the questions at the end of the video,
    1) wearing my masks and tails
    2) im an atheist and i dont believe in that stuff but i kinda dont like my body

Fun silly hobbies, ok no problem. At school ? That's a problem, because school is not the place for your hobbies. School is a place for learning the basics you will need to work and support yourself. Silly hobbies waist taxpayer money that goes to support schools as learning facilities. Tell me how silly hobbies will help you get a job?

@@normaray3901 i go to a private online school (i dont think thats funded by the government and taxpayer money but if i find out I'm wrong, i will come back and edit my comment). The fact that i sometimes have my masks with me during class does not really affect my learning. How could my silly hobby of being a furry help me get a job? I could be an artist, i could be a fursuit maker, content creator and or an animator

@@normaray3901I mean sports was just a hobby but has been integral to the school's identities. To the point that some schools cut funding in other funding like orchestra, arts and other side classes. But you know we're used to that.
