Gen Z Loves Fanfiction. Why?
In this video, Axis explores the fascinating world of fanfiction. This kind of amateur storytelling has become a mainstay in all types of fandoms, from Harry Potter to Harry Styles. Writing and reading fanfiction can be a creative outlet that plugs teens into a community of other creatives who offer support and feedback.
But fanfiction can also have a darker side, with sexually explicit or violent storylines becoming the norm in certain forums and fan communities. So is fanfiction something Christian parents should be concerned about? Do the benefits outweigh the potential drawbacks? And why would someone want to spend so much time making up imaginary stories and posting them online, anywa...

Is There a Case For Christians to Watch True Crime?
Просмотров 4 тыс.Месяц назад
The “true crime” genre is huge, with thousands of podcasts, forum posts, trending topics, and dramatized television shows discussing real crimes that impacted real victims. The target demographic for this content is often young women-which might be surprising, considering that it is the same demographic most vulnerable to violent crime. So why is this genre so popular, and should Christians be ...

I think one of the reasons fanfiction has gotten more popular is also from a lack of content. Most shows only produce 6-10 episodes every 2 years. Fans need more content in that time between seasons.

I have been reading fan fiction sense I was 14-15 years old. And I have even tried writing a few fics on occasion. I’ve always loved reading and could spend hours or even whole days just reading. When I first came across fanfiction I was in the middle of a personal crisis. I stumbled upon this wacky almost cartoonish comedy fic (commonly referred to as a crack fic) that instantly bosted my mood. Through fan fiction I have made good long lasting friendships from across the nation and even overseas. It has also helped me process a lot of thoughts and emotions on some experiences I have lived through. That said fanfic can be risky if you aren’t careful. Even if you are careful some people don’t tag mature topics and you can accidentally stumble onto something you didn’t sign up for. I clicked on this video mostly out of curiosity and I’m very glad I did. Both so I can see what other believers thoughts are on fanfiction and to share my thoughts and experiences on this subject.

We humans, in our limited language and understanding, landed on two genders because that's what our bodies visibly display. But it gets really complicated in the delivery room when a baby is born with ambiguous genitals. But it happens. And unless you're going to say that baby isn't a precious child of God because we can't tell if it's female or male, you'll need to throw out a lot of other beliefs around gender, too. Just need to push a little on this. I've often wondered why we're so certain God is "He." Because if God made humans in His image, and He made exactly two genders, then God is also She. I rarely hear anyone refer to God as "She," even though technically, if we're getting really literal with our Bibles, SHE/HE would be accurate. Here's another thought: maybe God is not to be put in a box and rather than defining God in the masculine "He," God is more of a They/She/He - Holy, Holy, Holy. This is probably pretty hard for many Christians to hear, but if you're following the Bible as a literal word of God, and believe God made humans in His/Her image, male and female He/She created them, then yeah.... gender is a spectrum. I made peace with that idea LONG before attaching pronouns to your email signature was a "thing." So as the conversation has heated up in the last 5+ years, I've sat back and watched people's brains blow up because of their dogged-certainty. And sadly, many Christians, in their certainty, are just digging a hole they can't climb out of. Before we label and put people in boxes (or God for that matter), we must pause and dig into the absolute truth. They are a precious child of God. Always. No matter what. Whatever we do and say should be centered on that truth first.

This reminds me of Truth Unites's video on how the early church prohibited its members from going to gladiator matches. They believed using violence as a form of entertainment had a formative effect on the viewer, sometimes even considering it participation in the act. "To see a man put to death is much the same as killing him."

Good video. I had no idea that true crime podcasts, stories, documentaries, etc, had risen to that level of popularity. A third of Americans! (Did I hear that statistic right?) Gotta admit that it’s easy to be sucked into. A few years back, my now 80 year old mother watched a lot of this stuff on TV. I can understand seeing a show here or there but she was really getting into it. Often I would make my youngest son leave the room just so his brain didn’t get filled up with all the dark content. Then I think even she realized what was happening and totally switched genres. Now she watches tons of Hallmark style movies!

I don’t think that watching true crime is inherently sinful but what you watch stays in your mind and can haunt you especially if you have anxiety. I watched true crime stuff as a teen and it didn’t start effecting me until I became older and started getting scared of what could happen to me or to family. So definitely be careful if you susceptible fear and anxiety.

romans 1,Paul says idol worship of statues causes gay lust. yet its Wrong for anyone to assume it causes gayness in all gays. he speaks of heterosexuality as normal but pagan gay rituals and lust as sinful, and not gay people in general! while leviticus 18 and 20 mention the hebrew words Shakab and not shekobeth. THis means forced sex and not consentual sex. God has not said all homosexuality is condemned in that chapter. This misreading you have been accusing all gays these past 100 plus years is dishonest.

That's not true. Being LGBT does not mean you place your sexual orientation at the heart of who you are as a person. That is simply an untrue statement. Many do unfortunately, but your explanation of what pride is about is not true. There is nothing complicated about the month. LGBT persons do not need to hear what you have to say about them. The rest of the year is already inherently tough for LGBT persons. You don't need to do anything.

But we should agree that pride is evilness. Proverbs 11:2 New Living Translation *2 Pride leads to disgrace,* *but with humility comes wisdom.* If these people wanna be prideful during pride month, up to them, we all are sinners, and we all will be killed and thrown in the lake of fire so accept Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour, God will spare your soul, and not everyone who calls on Jesus Christ will be saved. Matthew 7:21-23 New Living Translation True Disciples *21 “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. 22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’*

Yes, absolutely. In the same way that there are men in the church who struggle with adulterous thoughts, pornography, greed, alcoholism, addictions, and the sort. These are understood as disordered desires. The arms of Jesus are wide open and ready to receive absolute EVERYONE and ANYONE. But we all have to shift our desires to loving God first and foremost, and loving our neighbors.

@@BetrayalTraumaPractitioner Everything you are trying to protect is hurting people. Depression and anxiety are highest among LGBTQ- in a time when it is WIDELY accepted, especially in the mainstream. So why is that? It can’t be because of widespread public ostracism. It’s deeper than emotional hurt. It is because the soul itself is crying out for something deeper than sexual gratification and public acceptance. The soul is hungry for one thing, and that is its Creator. Now, I’m not even saying “change.” Nobody can change themselves, nor each other. Only God can do that. The soul is hungry for God, and my church doors are wide open to accept them as humans first- humans made in God’s image. Again, I struggle with so many things I listed above. But glory to Jesus Christ who died for us WHILE we were still turned away from Him.

@@JoshAlicea1229 If we are at an all time high of "acceptance" why are 40% of homeless youth gay? For a population so small that is a staggering number. And if "sexual gratification" is the only thing you/pastors/the general public think the gay community is after then no wonder so many struggle with anxiety.

    • @JoshAlicea1229
      @JoshAlicea1229 2 месяца назад

@@BetrayalTraumaPractitioner It’s not something we think about. Sexual gratification is just simply the message that is given by the LGBTQ are giving. No one needs to interpret it. And I think it’s terrible for parents to kick their children out of the house just because they are LGBTQ. It’s a sin actually to abandon your children because they live/ believe differently. But what people who call themselves Christians do has nothing to do with the person of Jesus. He loves and calls us all home; to live with Him each day. We are never abandoned, and neither are you.
