I am not fond of the community, there are a lot of bad actors and bad elements to the culture. That said, furries along with everyone else should be treated with basic decency and judged by their character. There are much worse things than being weird.

See the thing that bugs me about calling it a Fetish Con is that conventions that actually focus on fetishes have private areas and ask that you keep nsfw stuff in the private areas so as to not bother other guests. Adult conventions do exist, but this one wasn't advertised as one and didn't relegate this stuff to private areas. I don't mind if someone goes to Freaky Diaper Shitting Con 2019, but that convention isn't going to have the Open Shit panel in the open bc they respect the hotel. I think the fetish community honestly really hates being associated with groups like this bc it makes everyone look bad.

As a furry, I completely agree with this. You shouldn’t literally wear your fetish on your sleeve like that, even if it is a fetish con.
The organizers thought they were being so inclusive and welcoming when they chose not to heed the "Do Not Invite" list. They didn't seem to consider that the people on that list are there for a reason.

It's the good old paradox of tolerance, unfortunately. Theoretically, it's a good idea to be open minded, to allow for second chances, and to be as inclusive as possible. Unfortunately, a not insignificant amount of any given population doesn't know how to behave themselves and refuse to learn, and a different segment whose idea of a good time is making sure everybody else is having a bad time.
Usually people are shunned for a reason tbh.

apparently the reason why everyone was so crazy was because the con didn't ban anyone, so all these people were ones banned from other cons showed up here. so this was just all the worst furrys. apparently other cons are a lot more chill and feature much less property damage and drugs.

What really caused Rainfurrest to fail was the fact that the convention didn't ban anyone, so furries who were banned from other conventions for good reason arrived and showed everyone exactly why they're blacklisted from everything fur-con related. Basically, the worst of the worst showed up simply because they could and made the whole thing a living nightmare.
Every fandom who holds conventions has a blacklist, and I'm fairly certain that if another fandom hosted a convention without their blacklist you'd get a similar result to Rainfurrest if not worse.
Look at you, pretending furries aren't justifiably infamous for being degenerate even by the standards of internet degenerates.
I mean I don't know many fandoms that are known for shitting yourself and acting like an animal, I believe this was a result of the no blacklist and the fact this was centred around a hobby that's also a fetish. Everyone acted like animals because they think they should be allowed to but societal norms don't accept it, put them in a place with a bunch of people who feel the same way. They'll throw all care to the wind and be a fuckstick for a day 🤷♂️
Did the Carpet-Sample guy show up?
I had a roommate who worked for a hotel cleaning service and got the call to clean up the 2015 Hilton mess after the furries left. The bill was in the tens of thousands because of all the human feces that had been ground into the carpets. He said it looked like people were crapping on the floors then stomping it into the carpet on purpose.
None of us believed him when he told us the story because none of us knew what a furry was so it seemed impossible a person would do such a thing intentionally.
In hindsight i miss those simpler and more innocent times when i didn't know those kid of people existed and still had a sliver of faith in humanity.

it's more likely it was sabotage.
The implication is it was a former organizer who was cast out for their behaviour and decided to tank the con since they couldn't be a part of it anymore.

Im probably on the same list as these furries, since they stayed at a hilton too. I kept doing too many drugs and they would kick me out, but I would be so high off the drugs I'd just go back there like 2 days later and for some reason they always forgot and let me get a room again. Until one day when I got in trouble cause I wasnt even paying for the rooms anymore, I just had my RV, Car, and moped parked in the parking lot for a few days cause I was tired of aying so much in hotels. They towed my moped and told me I had to find a tow for my RV so I posted on facebook asking for help, but some joker went to the hiton and said "Yeahh mike sent me, just give me the keys" which they did even tho I never sent anyone to pick it, so then my whole house was basically stolen. I was don alot of meth at the time so my response to that was to start putting up signs saying how much they sucked, standing by gas stations near the hotel telling people that they sucked, and yeahh I kept going to the hotel to leave post it notes everywhere sayng how much t sucked, they'd take pictures of me doing it but I didn;t really care I wanted justice for my RV
I;m off meth now tho so I don;t do anythng like that anymore
Oh yeahh, the point of that story was, at one point they told me I had been reported to the Hilton corporate office several times now and they basically knew me by name

AFAIK the owner/organizer (guy with Mic) was too lenient on his friends' dumb to dangerous antics, there's more history than just 2015 but it was that year everything came to a head and down goes the ship. (IIRC they weren't even staff really, they just were friends with the main guy, so they weren't punished/discouraged properly in previous years. I think I read they/some of them actively resented the fact the owner let the diaper furries be welcome in the first place? so the sabotage is that result.)

@@rin_etoware_2989 They're a multi-million dollar hotel chain. It's their faults for going cheap and shoddy. That being said, most of this (like the toilet leak) is probably because of the unknown furry saboteur anyway.
I use to deliver pizza in San Jose. The furry convention was held at the radisson by the airport. They placed a lot of pizza orders, and I saw some shit… the hot tub got closed after the first year or two because diapers were clogging it. I got propositioned to get “pounced” in an elevator. One room had the door open, where a bunch of 60-70 year old men in tighty whities were surrounded a bed with some 18 year old twink in his underwear was standing on. And much, much more.
After a few years I realized they found a new hotel downtown and these people were out and about in the community.

Ignoring the stupidity of the drugs users and such... I can't help but think the Diaper Saboteur was the one who sabotaged the toilets and other things, that would affect all individuals versus a lone few, like the drug peddler and his buyer.

rainfurrest is the exact reason why furry cons in seattle/washington now are so insanely strict on their NO NFSW FAMILY FRIENDLY ONLY rule. if your outfit is even leaning a bit too risque, they will ask you to change or throw you out. i think it's a good thing, they want to enjoy their hobby safely and in a sfw fashion with no chance of an event like rainfurrest happening ever again.

we had to pull security for one of these events last april, we kept running the ID’s through the sexual assault registry and it came out to like 30% were on there.

Any other incident of a furry con I can think of is when (I think) an anti furry threw tear gas in the middle of the convention a few years ago

Usually if an event is going to have enough people in the host hotel that they end up buying up all of the rooms, the hotel can be closed to the public, often with signs blocking the view into the hotel and stating so.

Like, the people who hosted the venue were so humiliated with how people behaved at the events that one of them was the one calling and warning hotels so they wouldn't be able to find a venue and would have a convenient excuse to never host such an event again without being blamed by the people they hosted it for. If they were even telling the truth about being denied and weren't just claiming that hotels were turning them down.
