Cant compare them there both great singers roy was Rauls inspiration. Plus it was a much older roy singing in this version where raul malo is singing in his prime. I've been to 2 of Roy's concerts and 3 of Rauls with the mavericks and I will say they wer out of this world. Roy's gone but i would recommend if anyone hasn't seen Raul malo (the mavericks) live in concert you are really missing out because you will be blown away with his vocal talents not to mention the perfection of the music.
As a life long admirer of Roy Orbison I really enjoyed this. Had never heard Raul but am very glad I came across this. Two very fine voices. Paul Simon's songwriting not too shabby either. Great song. Great performance!
Tenniscollector I love it mate. If you were a true fan of both of them singing the song being to long would be a good thing. But then again I could listen to them sing puff the magic dragon and love it lol
A huge fan of Roy Orbison and Raul Malo and The Mavericks.... Went to The Mavericks concert last week.... Now to find this.... This is a haunting and superb performance by both Roy and Raul... my dream comes true to have both of them to duet together...... Shame it wasn't released commercially....... Thanks for posting!!!! Out of this world!!!!
@Larry George, agreed!!! This version is hardly known and absolutely amazing!!! Roy's 1973 version alone is stunning but the duet they did with his vocals blows the other versions away.

Not sure the reason for your apology but another comment on here says Roy was in his final years when he recorded this so it would make sense that Rauls voice was stronger.
Sorry, but this is a no contest. Orbison was the man. The track is a very good one and Malo sings well, but doesn't have the sweetness, control or vibrato, especially in the upper registers.
In your opinion. Raul sings Ring Of Fire very well and I don't recall Roy even trying. I think Raul has greater range and can sing anything in popular music, I'm 70 and grew up listening to Roy sing and only recently discovered The Mavericks/Raul much to my dismay. How did I miss them for so long? My point? It's all good. Enjoy. I hope you've had a musically fulfilling Four years. The music never ends.
Whoever produced this did a good job from what they've worked from but this production also drags on, two minutes too long. Very good attempt but Barbara Orbison was right not to release this. The music track after 4 and a half minutes is over-produced. The ending could have been better IMO.

Raul Mali one of my favorite singer's seems Roy's voice was a little weak in this sing.
