In this video guitar lesson series of videos you will learn Metallica's biggest hit "Enter Sandman" note-for-note is an extremely easy to follow format. I will guide you through all of the rhythm guitar sections and lead fills PLUS take you note-for-note through the now legendary solo by Kirk Hammett.
It's hard to believe that this song is a couple of decades old now, it still sounds so fresh and exciting today. This is the song that catapulted Metallica to the status of the biggest heavy metal band ever and was the first single off of the classic Black Album.
The rhythm guitar parts to this song can be studied by just about any level of player and are a great workout in techniques such as palm muting, sliding, arpeggiated picking and string skipping. The solo is a textbook Kirk Hammett tour de force of fast pentatonics and two string arpeggios.
So go ahead and take a swing at this great track by Metallica, you will be glad you did. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!!

You do such a great job at breaking songs down and making them simple to learn step by step...
I used to have to sit for weeks on tabs, but now in a single day I can learn a song or two.
I am more of a visual learner.
    Thanks for the awsome videos

Thank you SOO very much!! You explain stuff so well, learning the song became much easier. But then I guess I have not yet arrived at the solo. :D
The only thing that confuses me sometimes is the "play the fourth on the sixth string" sentences, because to me as someone who's main language is not English is is easy to get confused.

Well if you say so... :D Struggling a little bit to get the right melody/rhythm in the solo... but that is I am not playing so long per day due to little time currently...

thanks for ALL your videos, Carl!!!
Have you considered doing that 1st wah fill with the slow bend on the 14th fret, that involves 2 strings; -Have you considered trying that full bend as an oblique bend?
The dissonance of it (in my opinion) really adds an element of suspense & tension to that little lick that Hammett does.

Carl a question ,, to have the guitar sound off as you're sliding it , do you have to have rreverb or the sound up and how far? I been wondering about that. i only have a cheap 10W amp here, I bought from big lots a few years ago with a "viper" brand, guitar, since then i installed new tuning posts, replaced the cheap stuff. paid 100. for it all, lolol plays good!

It's been seven months and I can't believe no-one replied, you probably got this sorted, but...
You just keep the finger pressed down as you slide and It'll sound out.
      It's not a gear issue.

How do you get the sound so clean when playing the prechorus? You don't seem to mute the strings to avoid sympathetic vibrations. What's the trick?

Warning , once you learn this riff it’s like a drug you can’t stop playing it , once you start playing it infront of friends at party’s etc you become even more addicted to it , eventually it will ruin your social life as you get kicked out of every music shop you visit looking to buy a new guitar as they have heard it a million times and would rather ask you to leave rather then sell you a guitar just so they don’t have to experience it anymore
    Good luck 🍻

me too i hate that when people do that, and in a lot of videos they say the wrong # of the string too. i hate it, would make all our lives easier, but hey its their content i guess they can teach how they want, but I guess using number strings is for the absolute beginner who doesn't even know the strings
