Roger thanks for the videos, and reviews I always learn something when I tune in. Ortur if you're listening. I had to remove the mother board (anyway) that came with the 10W version because the micro/mini/tiny SD card getting stuck inside (????design). I wouldn't mind an internal upgraded motherboard with the SD card slot actually extruding past the frame with a seal around it. For me, it would actually be easier to replace the entire board where it belongs then the piggyback, after thought method shown on the official instillation videos. I'll sit this one out and wait for the others to come out with complete 20W laser kits at the 10W prices in about a year or less.
My only complaint with upgrading anything on the OLM3 is the old parts become useless. Example would be the extension kit completely replaces the side rails rather than adding onto them. For this upgrade, you're left with a whole front part with no way to use it. A trade-in program would have been nice to avoid wasting parts.
I agree, but do see why they do this here. Replacing the motherboard is beyond the skill set of a lot of people and they are avoiding those tech support issues.
Sorry but this installation does not seem to use the parts many of us recieved when ordering the upgrade for the LM3. How did you get the new enclosure? What we need is a detailed how -to on installing the new board (ouc?) inside our existing front control enclosure. Thanks.
That is what I was sent. If Ortur has since changed the kit, I am not aware of it. I am not affiliated with Ortur. I only did the review of the kit they provided at the time.
Hi Roger, I wanted to ask you a question about this up-grade. In your video, you are showing that you received a complete new front end with the new up-grade. When I was getting ready to order one, I am seeing that I will have to rig up with wire ties on the new laser head, the new mother board. Is this true? If so, I am re-thinking about doing this due to the fact that I did this on my LM2 Pro. In my opinion, this makes the LM3 look like a cheap knock off made up of used parts etc.. I emailed Ortur about this, but I have not heard anything back from them. Thank you. Rick
I have been told by Ortur that the public release will not require replacing the front. You will still need to move the limit switch stop screw to the next hole, but otherwise, the 20W module will fit the existing mount and only the cable will need to be changed back to where it plugs in at the end of the X gantry.
@@rogersshop I got an email today fro Ortur saying that you will have to tie wrap the new mother board to the 20 watt laser. I think that this is a poor design, just like Ortur did on their up-graded laser on the LM2 Pro.. Thank you!
@@rogersshop It seems Roger you have the only one that was done correctly for some reason Ortur decided to change the way this was implemented and leaving the customer to fend for themselves. I've never seen anything like this in 63 years when a company has a pereftly good solution like you demonstrated and then decides to go the opposite way for the general public. Make no sense something tells me its all about money.
