I just bought this before seeing your video. I'm changing my machine this weekend with this upgrade. I custom built a 3' x 4' machine and need something more powerful than the 10watt laser it has. Marble run is great. That's my next project.
I started trying to install mine on my Longmill Cnc router but the wiring is way too short and mine needs two pin connectors for input D. Dangit I had to order some pigtails and wire to make my own harness. Oh well maybe next weekend I can get it going. I milled a bracket and got it installed. the tiny bolt pattern on the supplied mounts wouldn't fit my 40mm wide mounting holes. Got that done. Also mine don't have the shims to set the focus so I guess I'll makes some. My 54 yr old eyes can't see good enough to try to line up that kickstand do dad. I also want to try to get my Ender 5plus rigged up for it if I can figure out how to defeat the Marlin firmware stuff and get it to run from a computer instead of that silly little touch screen. Anyone have info on that?
This was a really useful review for me, and well shot and narrated. I was unsure, but after finding lots of evidence that this is a legit product, took the plunge. I paid £280 which is mind blowing given the prices of other legit 20w modules out there, including the next cheapest option, the Comgrow, which I'm sure is an OEM of the LT based on some research, and £150 more, albeit it has a height calibrator on the body. Going to be attaching to my 1m sq MPCNC, so will have an awesome cutting platform. First jobs will be cutting parts from the MPCNC Low Rider 3. Full sheet 20w cutting (8' x 4') for only a few hundred quid. Will probably by the LT 30W when available so I have a redundant option. Many thanks, great content, helping folks like me save money.
Thanks for this ! I am awaiting mine to arrive tomorrow . More than I wanted to spend, but my 3 year old 5.5w just couldn't handle some of the newer things I need it to do .
I've just paid under 200 quid for this laser from AliExpress after having two lt80aa pro laser diodes from laser tree 1 is a year old and used proper. 😂 Lol and one I bought in a Amazon sale for 129.99 a few weeks ago done a test 3 mm birch ply 300mm/mini 80pwr one pass both cut perfect these are absolutely fantastic lasers..paired with the atomstack A5 pro
Not much in it to be honest. Both similar power, both similar in what you get, both similar price. Naturally if you have a FoxAlien machine, the FoxAlien laser will mount easier to it
Dear friend, I have a 10W Sculpfun S30 Pro, I recently bought a 20W laser head, it came with the driver, I turned it on as the diagram sent me, but it's not working as I would like. When I turn on the driver key, the laser already fires, scratching the piece, and it also doesn't turn off when the work is finished. Can you help me?
Pretty much play and play. Just a case of connecting the additional power supply via the control board. I cant post a photo here but if you message me via my website I can email you one
I got the laser driver board k30 but don’t understand how use it do I just power everything thru that or do I need to run a 24v thru it for laser pluse my standers 24v power plugin in to my main board ?
How do I get my Master Pro or Lightburn software to recognize my Laser Tree? I have it wired correctly on Masuter Pro but do I flip the switch to left or right once I have laser attached? I have the Laser Tree LT-80W-AA. Thanks!
HI James, Ive been a fan of your channel for not as long as Id have liked and I hoped you could help answer a question. Ive been shopping around for an upgrade to my current laser and like the look of this one. However when it comes to the depth of cuts per pass ( Im pretty sceptical) however where these modules state what they can do in one pass does that mean it'll be double the depth in 2 passes ? So if the seller/ supplier/ manufacturer states it'll cut 3mm MDF in one pass does that mean it could cut 6mm MDF in two passes ? Thanks.Jim.
Do you thi k this would be worth the money to upgrade from the 40w foxalien to this. It is $650 Canadian well $575 with the discount t they have currently.
It's difficult answer that to be honest, it depends what's you want to achieve. This will cut and engrave faster so ultimately will get jobs done quicker
@@JamesDeanDesignsI decided to buy it should be here in a few days I'm pretty excited to get it and try it out. Your video helped me make up my mind really informative video thank you.
Hey James, Thanks as always. What is the difference between LASER TREE 20W Optical Power Laser Cutting Module and Upgraded 40W Laser Module, LASER TREE 23mm Fixed Focus Balance Engraving and Cutting Head? Why is the 40w much cheaper that the 20w? Will the 40w do the same types of cuts - acrylic - and is it awkward to setup? Thanks
The color metal was cool too. Is that something you could also show, or is the information available out there? What metals can be used for this? Thanks again!
Hey James, Slightly off topic but I recently baught the Genmitsu PROVerXL 6050 and a 10w Genmitsu laser attachment but I’m having trouble setting it up with LightBurn. Any chance you’d be interested in doing a LightBurn tutorial? Particularly im having issues with the Genmitsu cnc homing to the back right and LightBurn doesn’t seem to like the Genmitsu negative axis coordinates and I can’t seem to find the right info to change either the home or actually getting LightBurn to start in the right direction from a custom origin
hi mate, I'm looking to upgrade my atomstack 5.5w to speed up my work but also give me versatility with additional products. Being in the UK i have just watched your video and after not getting a great deal of support through the manufacturer themselves I'm wondering if I'm better off just selling the existing set and going for a better all-round machine, what would be your advice?
Hey there im quite new to all cnc and laser ive just got a FoxAlien Mau Pro, and im trying to do some small bits out of mdf, not going well lol, wondering if, A: a laser would be better, and or if i can use a laser diode on my cnc machine with an adaptor? Thanks in Advance
Hello James, I have a Masuter Pro with the Laser Tree 80w(20W) laser. I had posted a question about laser engraving on a Facebook forum about Lightburn and was informed that the Masuter Pro has a top speed of 2000 MM/M, which I confirmed on Fox Alien's website. In your video you mentioned that you engraved the mandala at 4000 mm/m. Was the Mandala done on a different machine or is there a way to achieve a faster speed? Lasertree only has cutting specifications on their website and I have been having difficulty photo engraving (speed/power even with test grids). Trying to use basswood, baltic birch and oak. Any settings tips you could provide would be appreciated.
The default for the machine is 2000mm/min but these values can be taken higher by adjusting your GRBL settings. Specifically your $110 and $111 settings
Very nice video and content that I haven't seen for this 20W output laser. I have purchased one of these, and have been scouring the net to try to get good ideas on speed & power to cut, as well as engrave. I have mine on a Stepcraft system--which doesn't allow me to use Lightburn so to try to do engraving speed/power, that would take a lot of time. Would you be able to add picture of your test board with speed/power for the engraving & cutting? That would be awesome... Did you test anything other than the 3 mm plywood? Thank you!
Could you recommend a software to generate Laser toolpaths. I purchased this laser module to mount on my DIY rounter table. I currently use mastercam, but obviously the g-code does not call out for spindle speed changes/laser intensity. My machine runs mach3.
I would think you could use a simple GRBL post processor to make the necessary gcode. Just look at the code generated and see what it looks like. If your using pwm output mine uses M4 for variable intensity, also I believe m3 works for constant intensity. S300 is 30% on mine but really depends on the setting in your firmware. I haven't looked into my Mach 4 plasma table to see what I would have to do if I use it on that also. Good luck, you probably already figured it out by now.
Check your $30 and Smax value in the software are the same. Doesn't matter if its 1000 or 10,000 as long as they match. Also, if your machine is capable then you can potentially run the machine faster
@@JamesDeanDesigns yeah its 1000, i always make sure they match. 6000 mm/min is 1/8 to 1/4 ish deep @ 10%and up! i made a test file to run at fast feeds at 1-10% and it kinda worked it was a lot lighter burns.
Serious marketing confusion gets generated by saying a laser is 10W. Does "10W" mean 10 Watts light power output, 10 Watts input power, or a trade name? The Chinese take full advantage of such confusion.... 😢😢
I 100% agree. I've campaigned for this is most of my laser reviews because they should only really be promoting the output value which is the important one. I can at least confirm this is a genuine 20w output laser 👍
I put this comment in your last Cnc machine review but it applies here too in comparing lasers: Hi James. I know you are at a stage with your channel that doing reviews are a good idea. What I would like, as many others would, is for you to decide on and then use some quantitative and qualitative assessments which you can do. This would mean that each cnc can be compared with at least a similar price range or similar specification machines. As the assessments are not a personal opinion you should be then be telling the manufacturers what your standard assessments are. By continuing your current “everything is really nice “ “this is not a good thing “ . As I am trying to figure out what Cnc to buy I come away none the wiser in spite of watching all your builds/reviews/in-depth videos. I love your work but now you are becoming the goto channel for Cnc content I think a more scientific approach with a downloadable file (for Patreon) to use as a comparison between Cnc S to find what’s right for you.
Hi Stanley, I try to do this where possible, for example most of my laser reviews start with the same cutting and engraving tests to give an idea of what it's capable of, I just dont dwell on it too long. On lasers specifically I recently did a video scientifically comparing the power of all the lasers I had....it has actually been one of my worst performing videos so I'm not 100% sure people do want a scientific approach from me. More recently on CNC machines I do the same depth and speed cutting tests to gauge what they are capable of but its very rare you can really accurately compare 2 machines. Either the prices are different, the power is different etc. However in saying that I have recorded a comparison video between the FoxAlien Masuter Pro and the Sainsmart 4040 Pro as they are bother similar in price, size and power so its one of the first times I can really do this. In terms of trying to figure out what people want to buy, that's such a personal choice and what is good to me may not be good to someone else, and what I consider to be the best machine this month may be different in 2 or 3 months down the line. I genuinely do appreciate the feedback and I'll try and add more quantitative tests in on my reviews (albeit at this stage im not 100% sure what those would be)
@@JamesDeanDesigns thanks for the reply James. I am a bit of a boring nerdy numbers guy, maybe different from the general demographic who watch your videos? Anyway I do enjoy all your videos and hope you keep managing to expand your audience.

Sort of...their mounting holes don't align with the Fox Alien ones so you sort of have to bodge it and make your own. Or just ziptie it on
