Hi, nice video. I also had the 20w laser module for my OLM 3 last week, based on the guide from Ortur, I connect the module to additional board provide. But saw you connect directly and using the new power supply. Didn’t know can do it this way. 😊
yea... bought one, waiting for shipping... Overall I am kind of bummed out that ortur didn't keep up with xtool; was hoping they would of dropped a 40w module by now. I did hookup a airbush Air compressor dual lung; that helped greatly on cutting. Cheapy 1/2HP units on amazon; then just get 1/8BSP Male to 6mm RO line push connector. Most of the airbrush units come with a BSP adapter.
I'm a little disappointed too. XTool has turned into a huge company and marketing beast which means they have the money to develop faster now. Thanks for watching
Quick note from Ortur: You will most likely need to connect an "OUC" board that will be included with the LU3-20A module upgrade. This board is recommended by Ortur to guarantee the stability of the machine. My machine did not require it because of it being a special build. Please follow Ortur's directions when installing and contact their support if you run into any issues.
Great video, thank you. I went ahead and installed the OUC board; how can I determine if I can install without the OUC on my LM3? .08x.08 with 20W is excellent.
@@bneil4059 I have a feeling that it is required for all machines, even the LM3. If you have any questions regarding it I recommend contacting their support. I will admit that they have some inconsistencies in their marketing for the module upgrade.
@@GeekBuildersNet I have mine installed and it works well. On the OUC there’s a switch to put the power into auto mode that I would recommend to anyone. The challenge is finding a place to mount it on the LM3, he laser cable isn’t long enough to mount statically off to the side. It’s kind of a mess. I emailed Ortur to see if I could do without the module.
Thanks for the video, You make it look so simple. I have the LM3 10W and got the 20W upgrade kit for Christmas. I watched the ORTUR installation video and just installed the new OUC board on the exterior, which seems ridiculous, but I did it. It appears that the new setup requires 2 power supplies? Is that correct? It seems that I am supposed to use the new supply that came with the kit to plug into the new OUC board and I guess use my existing supply as I always have before. Is that correct? When I plug the power into the new board, it immediately starts running and never stops, even though the laser machine itself isn't even on. Thanks for your help.
I found in the book where it says 2 power supplies are required. Both (original purchase and upgrade kit) of my power supplies are 24V 4A. I took a picture but cannot share here. The manual that came with the upgrade says only a 2A is required. It also refers to the new laser module as LU2-10A so who knows what's accurate.
I looked at Ortur's documentation and it does look like it requires the second power supply. It is extremely awkward. My video does not show this since they provided me with a custom front end that has all of the new components integrated. @@csganley
Great video. I am new to laser engraving and have a Aufero2 and AL2-LU2-4 LF laser module and was wondering would I be able to upgrade to a 20W LU3 - 20A.
According to Ortur, you should be able to. You will. have to use an add on board that will sit on top of the laser though. Because of the cost of the upgrade model, I would look into the cost of a new laser altogether, there might be some special deals with the holidays coming that might make the overall cost more feasible.
You mentioned that there is a different power supply. Can you tell me what the specs are on the new power supply? I just received my laser module and it shipped with the same 4A PS I already have with my machine. The one I have is 24V, 4A output. Thanks!
Hey! Thanks for the video. I got the Ortur OLM3 LU3-20A Laser Engraver with 50L Laser air Assist and I'm trying to figure out how to engrave Glass jars. It will help greatly if you can assist. Thank you! Dani
Glass can be a challenge with diodes. In the past, I use a smokey beige rustoleum spray paint to coat the glass and then run the job. When the job is done, I use acetone to clean off the residual paint and then wash well with soap in water. I highly recommend having a few test pieces to get the power and speed correct. I have a post in my IG feed that shows one of the end results. Testing is really important since each module and each setup is different
The biggest problem I've found upgrading from the 10w to the 20w is aligning projects. With the 10w I can easily fire at low power then move the beam to the desired starting point. Can we remove the orange protection cover? Do you have any suggestions?
No, it can not be removed. My process involves setting a starting position in lightburn and trying to align my workpiece the best I can after that. If I need a precise placement, I will do a light engrave path in the shape of the object on a wood scrap or thin piece of cardboard and then match that to my work piece
So my new LU3-20A cable is not compatible with the OUC board the came in the box , My laser is a LM3 , the module will plug into the existing cable that is on the machine ,,, identical to how you installed your module and cable ... I'm wondering if I have same lase you have ??
My only recommendation is to follow the instructions provided by Ortur. If something is not working the way you think it should, contact Ortur support. My laser has a custom front end that does not require the extra OUC board.
@@GeekBuildersNet So it appears that I have a upgrades LM3 that came ready for a 20w upgrade ( a Nov 2022 purchase) came with the upgraded heavy duty 24v power supply as well all I needed to do was exactly what you did and it works perfectly !!! no need to install the included board !!
Ok Hopefully a quick question. I just getting into this hole laser thing. I just order the Aufero 1 with the SF setup. I was wondering if I could upgrade the laser, I ordered to a 10w laser later, if I like doing this more down the line. But for now, it's a interesting to try.
@@GeekBuildersNet yes, I saw that. But when I went looking all I could find was the laser itself, but not the control circuit board I'll just call it that because I don't know exactly what it is. I've been to their website and all I could find there was just the laser. No mentioning of an upgrade for the Aufreo 1. Maybe I'm just getting ahead of myself because I'm not sure if she'll stay interested in it for long. But just in case LOL 🤣
@@mauricejohns3635 I missed that you were looking to order the Aufero 1- they should actually discontinue that model. The Aufero laser 2 and the ortur 3 are superior now. The circuit board you are referring to is required when upgrading the 10w Aufero 2 and original Ortur LM3, mainly to better handle the power requirements of the 20w laser.
@@GeekBuildersNet well I hope they don't discontinue it because it might cost a lot more buying a more expensive model just for my wife to use once or twice and then sit around doing nothing with it. Oh yeah I just arrived home found the laser sitting on my front porch, unfortunately it was the wrong model it was the laser 2. Which is too big for the space we have that's why we needed the 1.
Great video thanks. I have a 5w Ortur LU1-4 Laser Master 2 which I would like to upgrade to at least 20w. Would you advise doing this or would I be better off buying a new unit, either Ortur or other. I would require an air assist pump, could you recommend a reliable make. Thanks in advance.
Ortur states that you can add the 20w to any previous Ortur with the addition of an add-on board, but I would personally recommend the new unit with the upgraded motors and better machine stability for operating at high speeds
You have to do experiments with different speeds and power settings. You usually have to start of going very slow with high power. The type of metal you are engraving will also make a difference. Ortur should have some guides online for this.
I only recommend installing the way that Ortur says to install it. The new board has new instructions and power management that is essential for the stability of the new laser. If you have any questions about their install method, please contact Ortur.
@@krvav1 Mine usually spin up when moving the laser head or other basic function and they will stay on for a few minutes before shutting off. It might be worth looking into any of the ortur documentation or seeing if there is a setting that can be changed in Lightburn
