This is interesting because it's such a subjective thing. I remember my old man loving Van Morrison when I was young but I didn't really get it. He also liked Dylan and I didn't get that either. Now at 45 I see what he meant. Dude is truly amazing.
We all have our own tastes I guess. I didn't get Dylan really untill I was around seventeen. Then suddenly he started to blow my mind. And I robbed all my Dads old Albums !😄
The amazing thing is that none of us need choose one version over another; it need not be decided that one is superior to another; no one has anything to gain by giving one performance thumbs up and another thumbs down. The only thing here that each of us need to do is choose to listen, or not. I am grateful that I am able to listen to the songs of Van Morrison again and again, in the many ways that he has presented them over the years. He is a master of his medium and message. A visionary artist in the truest sense.
OMG! 🤣 I so get what you've just said! More than most! I'm a Northern Ireland girl! I'm 59 years old! I've seen him so many tines! Love him! True artist!
This song literally brings tears to my eyes. The original is amazing and this is absolutely amazing as well. Unreal how talented this man is. Hey Van the Man! (Robbie Robertson voice from the last waltz)
I love The Band. They played at my first live concert experience. They played after Santana. I didn’t know either band until I heard Up On Cripple Creek. I went nuts because I had never heard a song live that was being played on the radio at that moment. That was late December 1969. Not long after Woodstock. It was part of The Miami Rock Festival. I was lucky to be there because I was only 15 at the time. Thanks Mom!
Wow...Me encanta esta canción una de mis favoritas y con el Talento de Van Morrison es super genial mi cantante favorito...Saludos cordiales desde San José,Barquisimeto-Venezuela
This is my absolute favorite version of this song. I didn’t realize at first there was 2 drummers playing on this song, it was driving me crazy why I couldn’t get it to sound correct when playing along.
In all truth for many years I thought there lyrics were : " in a storm made to my soul, stormy just like jelly roll, yeah stormy... " I couldn't get past thinking it was better for the longest time.
It’s ridiculously annoying see all these comments about van doing blow or being stoned. The guy did not do drugs. The only drug he ever did or maybe even still does do excessively is alcohol. However I think his alcoholic days are behind him. Also HE DIDNT JUST SPEED UP THE SONG. He reimagined and rearranged it. Big difference there.
"And it stoned me to my soul Stoned me just like Jelly Roll And it stoned me And it stoned me to my soul Stoned me just like goin' home And it stoned me"
Then we saw the man from across the road With the sunshine in his eyes Well he lived all alone in his own little home With a great big gallon jar There were bottles too, one for me and you And he said Hey! There you are
I heard this version first. I fell in love with David Hayes, bass guitarist. first, Van Morrison later. I even listens to David's albums. By the way, when I finally heard the first version of the song, I was disappointed
Is it true that he did the very 1st mic 🎤 drop singing caravan at " the band" last waltz??? I know he does it ,its pretty awesome but that's what I heard? I don't know either way?
@ drummerschild: Van Morrison (Vocal, Guitar) John Allair (keyboards) Pee Wee Ellis (saxophone) David Hayes (bass) Mark Isham (trumpet) Jef Labes (keyboards) John Platania (guitar) Dahuad Shaar (drums)
This guy is that line of dirt you can’t get with the dust pan, he’s genre-less. I could find a 20 year old kid right now and we’d eventually stumble on a Van Morrison song they’d like, that how good this guy is.
Love Van the Man. I don't think there's a live performance that I've seen where he doesn't look pissed off, lol! I'd be nervous as one of his musicians, he looks like he'd bite your head off if you played a wrong note.
From what I've heard, he's never felt comfortable playing live. He almost always has his eyes shut when he's singing. I never saw Van live, but I have a buddy who did. He said Van sat at the piano, which faced parallel with the audience, and he never once looked at the audience.
Wow Van really picked up the tempo in this version. It's a cool different way to sing it. But speeding it up takes away from his soulful style. So personally I prefer the original.
And it stoned me, all this fkn coke made me play this song faster than the studio cut but we had to get out of there to get stoned again. And did we, oh yes we did we got fkn high as shit and pitched a chikenshit super fit and then we did some lines and got cooked as fk.
my man van is in a league of his own. No one could ever replicate his creativity! maybe the greatest songwriter of all time, if you ask me
Ahh, come on. He's good, but hardly the greatest. It's clearly not true that he's the best. But he's good!
This is interesting because it's such a subjective thing. I remember my old man loving Van Morrison when I was young but I didn't really get it. He also liked Dylan and I didn't get that either. Now at 45 I see what he meant. Dude is truly amazing.

You couldn't be more correct! Sir Van is the Man!
He’s easily top 5 in my book… dylan, tim buckley, lou reed, van morrison, nick cave (in no particular order)

Couldn’t of said it better myself - wonderful words 🙏

Such sustained brilliance, a true master.

He’s killing it. I never realized how great the bass line was for this song.
laying down a great groove too

I never get tired of this .
Van Morrison's music is timeless.
One of my favourite ever renditions of a song, great rhythm to an already set in classic.
the genius of Van Morrison
I'm about 60 and really just appreciating Van❤
I like the way Van gets right down to business.
Look at the face on the bass player @ 3:12. These guys are having a blast playing with Van. What it's all about.
GREAT SONG---- GREAT PERFORMANCE BY THE ALWAYS SUPREME VAN MORRISON
I love this reggae style upbeat version! I could hear Jimmy Cliff singing it.
Great comment ^^^
Cocaine style, you mean
Yes-Jimmy Cliff is who I though of too!
Umm.. Just because it has an upbeat, reggae feel, does not mean cocaine had anything to do with it. FFS, man. 🙄
Another great version of a classic. He can keep reinventing and it will always sound fabuloso.
LOVE the reggae touch!!! Realyy GOOD!!!
This was the first version of the song I heard. I like it more than the slower version just because it’s the first step I accepted
Great performance from a total legend 😎
Best bunch of musicians imaginable - enjoying every moment and getting it right !
ANOTHER CLASSIC FROM THE WORLD RENOWNED, VAN MORRISSON
That was so great vans vocals are so soulful in this and the band is kicking
I had the pleasure of meeting Billy this month at a family BBQ in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. I could have listened to his stories all night.
Oh the Water Oh the Water

To Van on his long music career. You go Van. To USA vets, thank you for your service.
I was in nappies when this was recorded love Van Belfast boy
This was the first song I liked and I bought one of his cds at the old bradlees department store, in the 80s,
They jammed this shit so many times they probably wanted to change up the feel you know? Pretty cool reggae feel.
Taking it as Goes, hoping it just flows, love the rain and snow, fishing just the Hole!
The man’s a legend.
this funky version is wicked cool
🥰 I Love Van the Man❣ Thank you for all you do ❤🎼🎸🎷🎤📀❤🩹

Vans Songs stoned me ❤🎉❤🎉❤
'And it Stoned Me' in the style of his 'Wavelength' album
Was in Montreux twice. Fabulous place. He does mean the Swiss place?
Look forward
VAN, YOU STONE ME, TO MY SOUL💚💚💚🎉🎉🎉💚💚💚
Damn this version is tight in the pocket, I also enjoy the album version though
In all truth for many years I thought there lyrics were : " in a storm made to my soul, stormy just like jelly roll, yeah stormy... " I couldn't get past thinking it was better for the longest time.
That's actually not a bad lyric.
Van.... One of the best.
THE best

He’s also sexy so there’s that
Thank god somebody gets it. Some of these comments are ridiculous. 👌
Gotta love reggae van. One time I got inside a reggae van. And it stoned me.
"And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like Jelly Roll
And it stoned me
And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like goin' home
And it stoned me"
Do you like the chorus??
great performance! love me some Van!
But I cannot imagine being there!
I got this on the 1990 greatest hits album.
I love Van so much. It does look like he's struggling here to produce and not enjoying himself. Who knows. Eitherway I am so grateful for this music!
He often looks miserable
@@Michael-mm3fm He has stage fright most of the time. But, he knew how to put a good ass show.
Might've been a long tour.
I think he's stoned most of the time.
Typical Van. Love his music though. This version doesn't appeal to me but what a song it is.
thank you vaaan
Then we saw the man from across the road
With the sunshine in his eyes
Well he lived all alone in his own little home
With a great big gallon jar
There were bottles too, one for me and you

Easterlies, rolling in, so chagrined!

Love love love. That's all.
love van the man!!!!!!!!!!
its badass. its a whole different song at the up tempo reggae beat, (16/8) its a badass cut

something I forget to tell you about the roll shake and rattle of a voice
One word : G E N I U S !

What is the PEW! sound I keep hearing?? Almost sounds like a laser gun or a bouncy ball
I heard this version first. I fell in love with David Hayes, bass guitarist. first, Van Morrison later. I even listens to David's albums. By the way, when I finally heard the first version of the song, I was disappointed
Why does he play that song in A when it's in G on the original moondance album? Hello Mr.Morrison, please explain!
Ivo Graham at 3:13?
The great Pee Wee Ellis on Sax.
Too fast?too slow? High or low it sounds pretty good to me
Is it true that he did the very 1st mic 🎤 drop singing caravan at " the band" last waltz??? I know he does it ,its pretty awesome but that's what I heard? I don't know either way?

In a world without video gamers; we get better music players.
Is Van’s guitar plugged in?
he fucks with it after the first verse, but pretty sure it is not lol
This Isabel good :p
Holy shit, i never knew Peter Dinklage was Van's bass player! 3:13

Boo to this version
Play Van Morrison wildnightslive and Tupedo honey and I will Always Love you Witney Houston
Flynn bought me here!
seems like he was keeping coke alive. I fucking love this song, but slow down lol
+alisha smith ever hear zep do trampled under foot? they blast right through it leveling all the funk that made the song great. same here.
+alisha smith Sure you're not stoned?
knowsmebyname & Robert Belyea I've been there. No ifs, ands, or buts, he's definitely on the coke groove.
sure wasn't jelly roll lmao
Van never did drugs!
His guitar not on?
the amps on standby, most likely.
van morrison is so good he doesn't even need to turn it on haha
The audio of this concert here on YT is horrible. On the DVD version, you can clearly hear him playing.
Don't really dig the upbeat version of this but I love watching van sing live. The original version had such a quintessential bass rhythm
The saxophone on the original
Wow Van really picked up the tempo in this version. It's a cool different way to sing it. But speeding it up takes away from his soulful style. So personally I prefer the original.
Gotta go shower. Oh the water! X
slow down now mr Morrison!

Are you serious? They juiced the song a bit. Most bands adjust songs when they play live. Just listen to your studio version and don’t worry about it.
Original was good!
Think van had a bus to catch
