What tool set up did you use to set up your dial indicator? I'm having a huge problem getting the tool set up.

What happens if your trans doesn't have a bell housing? Like engine swaps with adapter plates, just hope for the best?

There is typically an option to still perform the check but it requires tear down of the transmission.

It seems to me that bolting the transmission front cover to the bellhousing is the best way regardless of the added effort. There's no guarantee the hole in the center of the bellhousing is concentric to the mounting bolts or dowels. You could get the bellhousing perfectly aligned according to that center hole and still end up with a misaligned input shaft because the bolt holes on the bellhousing or transmission were slightly off-center compared to that hole.

    great video...i
how can this be done with the clutch attached? the QuickTime says it can be done with the clutch on, but it's easier with it off...i have a twin disc clutch and it's alot of work to remove and install especially when loctite was used with the torque specs. thanks

How often have you seen the bellhousing needing to be shimmed for parallelism?

Hey man, great video. I literally just put my T56 Magnum in my 93 cobra last evening, then I read about doing all of this first. So it looks like I'm pulling the trans and quicktime bell back off and pulling the motor out so i can check off of these things. Could you tell me where you go to buy shims for the bell if they are needed? I'm running a new Dart 363 SBF, SPEC billet flywheel, quicktime 8031 bell and T56 Magnum. After looking at some material about this i'm kind of peeved that quicktime has powder coated their mating surfaces. A regular guy like me doesn't have access to machinery to clean that up. I'm going to have to see if my bore gauge I have is going to be small enough to work on that T56 Front plate.

QUICK TIME now makes a plate so that you do not have to take the front plate of transmission off.

George Johnson Jr. FYI, I used my dial indicator on my bell housing and didn't need to remove my front cover. I needed offset dowel pins though. Everything is all good now. Going to start my new motor up this week and test out the Magnum.

George Johnson Jr. Sorry, I typed bore gauge. But it auto corrected it to that. Then I edited it to dial indicator.
