  • Forever a classic, and on my personal essentials list. Many thanks to Hal Needham, Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jerry Reed, Jackie Gleason and all the actors and technicians who assembled the greatest road movie ever.
    Featuring 'West/East Bound and Down' by the late great Jerry Reed.

    I really, really miss these times. So carefree as a child and so many good memories. I have watched a lot of family pass away young and old but when I heard this music it takes me back to the good ole days here in South Carolina. I really miss it all. I actually feel sorry for the young ppl of today with all of the crooked politics and news hating America programs.

    Summer of 1977. 11 years old. My late sister and my brother in law took me to a drive-in to see Smokey and The Bandit. I fell in love three times that night. First with Sally Field, then that black Trans Am,then with Burt Reynolds ( take it easy,it was just a bromance) LOL!!! Thank you Burt for giving me a memory that has lasted me a lifetime. R.I.P. Bandit.

    It’s one of the all time greatest movie ever ... I can’t think of anything so timeless powerful and classic Americana ... I basically shaped myself from this movie , I drive a 36.5 Metres Road Train in Australia because Snowman and The Bandit and I’ve been collecting all they similar clothing and jewellery for the past 30 years , this movie they characters became real on they own ... amazingly awesomely the 3 best movie ever with Forrest Gump and the blues brothers

    As a young person during the 80's there were two things that you did. First you learned to dance and second was you NEVER missed a Burt Reynolds movie. ☺
    He was the essence of cool.
    You couldn't help but like him, the Charisma and charm just drew you in. You left the movie theater repeating the lines in the movie. I tried to imitate his laugh. He was just to cool.
    For a man with so much fame and fortune he should have always been happy but that wasn't the case.
    More than anything he wanted to settle down and find a wife and have kids. He met the perfect woman for that but at an imperfect time in his life.
    Later admitting it was his fault and his biggest regret he never fully got over the loss.
    He would eventually marry and adopt a son whom he loved the rest of his life but he never found the lasting love he hoped for. We all make mistakes Burt and you are indeed truly loved by many and will be missed.

      It didn't help that he was womanizing. I love his movies but he didn't treat women with respect, he treated them as objects. If he had actually been a little kinder and sweeter to the opposite sex it's possible he may have found a life partner. I mean he found 2 lovely women in his life and managed to mess both of them up. Pathetic. His Hollywood ways and being sexiest man alive went to his head.

    i wonder if they went through so many pontiacs during the production of the movie was because of a few vibrant stunt drivers dui of nose candy. (this WAS 1977). i really can't think of another car more fitting for the role. corvette woulda been over the top not allowing for a fair fight for the movie. that era mustang was in a coma waiting for a rebirth. chrysler at the time wasn't known for muscle. and using any import in a movie like this would have been an insult. i love when burt asks for front money to buy the car..."speedy car...(pauses while money is being counted out)...speedier than that"

    • @jrvbamafan1
      @jrvbamafan1 5 лет назад +2

      Brother the corvette in 77 had 180hp if you had an l48, and 210 if you ordered an l82. One with 255 lb ft of torque and the other with 270. The olds 6.6 also had 180 hp but 300tq and the true Pontiac 6.6 had 220 hp 330tq, although tested the Pontiac engines often were closer to 250hp. Wasnt any corvette from that year touching this car

    What many people don't realize is that back then Coors beer wasn’t pasteurized and contained no preservatives. That meant people would get sick drinking beer that was expired.
    I was a kid in the 70s and grew up in a family that didn't consume alcohol but we all loved those movies. I remember asking why they didn't sell Coors all over the US and my dad had no idea. It's amazing how many people to this day still don't know why it was considered bootlegging. They think it's always the law trying to get over on everyone when it was trying to stop people from getting sick.
    Still one of my favorite movies of all time, seen it at least 100 times and can quote every line from the movie. To this day, every time Jackie Gleason is on the screen as Sheriff Bufford T. Justice I laugh hysterically.
