Who could've ever thought a saxophone and an erhu would sound so incredible together
Google "suona all I want for christmas" and become Enlightened
Omg the saxofone, it was SO good, I LOVE it!
I know, I was so excited to hear it
@@r_bear I did like it, but it wasn’t an erhu and saxophone combo.
@@r_bear THIS! I didn’t realize it was a sax. I thought it was a Suona.
The Sax in this track is SUCH a gut punch man, I can't help but move to it and the Erhu we're hearing a good bit of wit TotK.
I never thought the saxophone would be such an emotional instrument in a song and yet it literally throws me across the room when I hear it in this
The best part is, the Erhu only appears in one place I can think of in BoTW. It's fairly confirmed that the *dragons* will still be a big thing in ToTK, but perhaps it hints at a deeper connection to the skies.
@@gammaboy4568 for some reason, I thought it was also used in Kakariko, must be confusing the track with another game, lol.
I still think it might be a suona, not a saxophone
@@gammaboy4568 The erhu is in the BOTW main theme as well. Sadly the one in the dragon theme seems to be synth or sampled rather than a real one.
I just love how just THREE notes is enough to be recognised. Koji Kondo is just a master at composing
Seems to be a quality of a small handful of masterful composers. John Williams and Jaws - that’s just two notes.
God I am so beyond stoked for this game
wait what song is it supposed to reference?
@@KoenSkySea it's the first 3 notes of Zelda's lullaby
My mind was blown the day I learned that Zelda's Lullaby is Ballad of the Goddess played backwards. Utilizing those same notes in reverse. Effing genius how that makes total sense musically and thematically.
@@Vincent-in1uc I really don't hear that...
That Sax goes illegally hard. I swear man, it's always someone in the Zelda orchestras who has to play like their life depends on it, like the pianist in the Dark Beast Ganon ost from BOTW. Now they got someone playing like Epic Sax Guy...
Bro epic sax guy has nothing on this 😭
I can’t wait for the next Zelda concert where I am hoping they’ll feature this track so we can have a definitive version of it
YES!
I keep saying they need to add Chinese instruments to the Symphony of the Goddesses show. Not just because of the Erhu that's featured in BOTW, which was sorely missing in the live version of the main theme, but also because of the Suona and Chinese Opera style percussion used in Majora's theme, which they didn't even do in the show at all.
Now we're hearing Erhu again, and I think there's Suona as a starring voice in this too.
They did a little reference to this in the newest concert
Is the Symphony going again? There's been nothing on the website for a long time.
I must say it’s a nice change of pace for a music focused trailer breakdown as opposed to the usual Easter eggs, visuals or gameplay etc. you see everywhere.
That's good to know. Looks like I have less competition in the trailer reaction with this method. ;)
@@LionmightOfficial love it!! Keep it up!!
Totally agree! Seeing someone with a well trained ear, shows things I wouldn't of ever noticed by myself
I absolutely love the reversed lyrics parts. It really makes the soundtrack feel unique and unconventional
WHY DO I SEE NIKO FROM ONESHOT EVERYWHERE
@@epiclemon9927 because oneshot is awesome, and niko is adorable
Never played Skyward Sword, have you?
agreed and defo highlights the time travel/reversal aspects in this games story/mechanics
@@epiclemon9927they are good character
this trailer has some of the best composition i've ever heard, im such a sucker for leitmotifs and motivic development, it just does everything right for me
If you haven't yet, but the FFXIV OST is amazing and repleaat with all of that.
What is a leitmotif
@@TheOneLilo its a short theme or melody attached to a certain person or idea or anything along those lines
Same
Best game trailer hands down. The music was amazing and the trailer itself is so hyped and packed with details.
I cant stop listening to this song. The climax at around 5:24 just feels so amazing. and that one part where the saxophone (I think) really starts coming in (6:07) and sounds so metal-ish is so incredible.
I'm not in any way musical, but I love videos like this explaining how they used the music because it also plays a lot into how the game will play. With so much of the music going back to classic Zelda themes, it gives the hint that some classic game play (like dungeons) might be returning. It also makes it feel like the story and lore will play a bigger part in this game.
I’m studying to be a video game designer, and I’m not a music guy (I like it, but I don’t know how to make it), but music is so incredibly vital to games. I will always appreciate video game music appreciators immensely.
This trailer... it's perfection. There are few trailers where I KNOW I tear up, even after the 10th watch. The 2017 BOTW trailer does the same, even after all these years...
What no one seems to be talking about is the fact that this is the first Japanese trailer I've seen to take influences from western trailers, big sound, epic drums etc etc. Pretty neat
This trailer was absolutely wonderful
i love how this music not only promises a more bombastic and triumphant return of the main themes but also introduced instruments like te sax and erhu that make this game's soundtrack stand apart on its own rather than just being a mish-mash of older themes. That romantic section when we first see Zelda reminded me so much of like early XX century composers like Puccini or Tchaikovsky. Also when they show the champions and citizens coming together to help Link, they brought the main theme up and made it more epic, it felt like that was their "Endgame moment". This trailer makes me feel like TOTK is truly the culmination of everything The Legend of Zelda has built all these years.
I don’t know why but everytime that saxophone part comes on I get teary eyed. It’s so beautiful and empowering. I still go back and watch the trailer here and there just to hear the music and how they set up the trailer. 😊
6:07 The way the sax/choir melody line jumps up and down frantically, and then reversed voices added to it... just gives me chills every time.
You practically were the soundtrack of my childhood when I got into Zelda for the first time. Coming back and seeing you geek out over the music in more recent titles is a joy! I’m glad to see both of our tastes have remained similar haha
Thank you so much!
@@LionmightOfficial this means a lot!! 💖
Did he actually work on the music of any Zelda tittles?
❤
This is something I haven't seen discussed that much, but I think the little motif you heard at the very beginning is actually the main theme from Age of Calamity! Between that and the little BOTW flourish that's also in there, it definitely seems like Tears is kinda trying to tie everything together.
Honestly this is one of the best game trailers ever made. Absolutely loved the part where they reused the initial reveal trailer music.
The music was slapping, as usual for the Zelda series. This moment here 6:07 is my favorite. Very epic!
Hell, Im deep into the game already and have played so much of it yet watching the trailer still brings tears to my eyes. Love seeing peoples reactions and your breakdown of recognizing melodies so easily that they use and remix is fantastic.
The touches in this trailer's music are incredible!! It feels so intense and I haven't been as excited for this game as I was while watching this trailer for the first time. I LOVED all the saxophone in this, and I can't wait to hear more!! It's a fantastic marriage of music that tends to be found in fantasy and science fictions that just.... blend so well!
Thank you for reacting to this trailer; it's absolutely one of the most incredible musically I've heard in a long while.
(P.S. Happy late birthday to us both, fellow May birthday buddy!)
Thank you so much, amazing heathie!
8:18 at around this point you can hear the Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity theme! Understandably, since they're showing the champion successors there, and they played a big role in that game.
And that melody at the very beginning is a bit interesting, as it could either also be a reference to the Age Of Calamity theme, or as some people have pointed out, The Spirit Flute from LOZ Spirit Tracks. While personally I think AOC makes much more sense, I'd say maybe it's both since they actually share that set of notes
I love motifs in music and this trailer is full of them, ganondorfs theme, the main theme, botw theme, zeldas lullaby, even the hyrule castle theme is in there
I love the use of saxophone in the main theme and how it ties in to the prominence of woodwind instruments in the sky Island themes
They're just so good at thematic music, I swear
I think Zelda is the perfect franchise to experiment instrumentally. Music is so intrinsic to the plot in so many games. The music in breath of the wild was so beautiful, and I agree that it created it's own aesthetic. However, I'm excited to possibly hear some more bold themes that are as diverse and memorable as the environments they're a part of. Seeing so many different instruments and styles in one place has me really excited for what else they might do. At the very least, this points to the effort and skill that's going towards the music team.
They did include the OG Zelda theme in the 2017 Switch Presentation BOTW trailer! Which, as a trailer, is very similar (in terms of giving goosebumps).
That beat drop when _____ shows up hit harder than the rocks falling from the sky.
I love the reverse vocals into the heavy hitting orchestra at 5:17. The use of reversed voices in the soundtrack as a whole is really cool and makes everything more mysterious and ominous. Great video!
And it kinda sounds like Zeldas lullaby
I really like this part too, it gets me chills, like, literally 🔥
If you listen closely it kind of sounds like "THE FU-TURE" and the sheikah text on the elevator translates to "Transportation." Coincidence? Probably, but it would be cool to look back on and see if it did mean anything.
@@spidermonkey9812hen the music gets the most bombastic near the part with the Minecart you can hear "THE FUTURE AND OUR BATTLE!"
@@spidermonkey9812 aged like wine
the sheer joy and awe visible on your face throughout this trailer is a testament to the power of music, and how well it was utilized in this trailer... i reacted similarly lol. love your music and your content, thank you for being you!
I really enjoy your channel. You have such a passion for music and you are very genuine and not fake. To me that's so rare, but anyways keep up the great work!
Another musical reference that you may have missed was when the Castle was rising, you could hear the King’s theme.
I was a bit put off by the new abilities at first but after doing a few shrines that force you to basically do a mini eventide island challenge by using all of your abilities to succeed opened my eyes
Absolutely loved your comments and reaction to the music... it was so genuine and your passion for music is evident. Love the fact that you're a fan too, sharing some of your childhood experiences with the Legend of Zelda. You seem like such a positive person and I so enjoyed watching this. Many thanks!!
I'm glad you're doing better with these reactions. Long time fan. Keep them going, but i would like to see the reactions without stopping so much first, then a second view to appreciate the part and talk about them.
That's my process though, I'm just being myself. Thank you so much for the support!
@@LionmightOfficial Yeah i respect that, i think it's mostly how i like reactions more than how they should be. Keep being yourself, you're an amazing music player and now amazing at explaining stuff about music!
I love how passionate you are about music. Specifically this trailer. I rewatch it sometimes. That trailer was epic. And your reaction makes me cry.
I love this guys face when some mind blowing stuff happens in the trailer! But seriously though epic trailer and great content and coverage of priceless trailer music!
You asked "What do you think of the music on this trailer everyone?" I loved it! It gave me goosebumps... Music is my favorite form of art! I'm a 40 something year old dude and it took me a long time to realize that a big part of why I like Zelda, the Star Wars movies, the first Superman movie(from the 70s), Indiana Jones and more is because of the score....The music man, it moves me!!! I'm so glad to have your video. Its nice to have someone approach it from a musical angle. Subscribing now.
Around 4:35, that theme relates to the Old Kingdom and king of Hyrule in Windwaker, not sure if that was the first game it appears in though, it might also be in Ocarina.
The firs few notes literally was like Lord of The Rings Shire theme level of peace yet pending adventure it gave me goosebumps...then I got goosebumps again like at the saxophone bit I'm middle
As a Zelda nerd, ALTTP lore nerd, and a music major, those first few notes was the "Requiem of Spirit" from Ocarina of Time, which was a Sage Ocarina song. If you break it down in music, there's numerous of the Ocarina of Time Ocarina "Sage" themes across the game if you speed it up to 2x.
This is also the first time the main theme has come back in about 20 years in the mainline series.
You'll likely love the story of this one if you loved A Link to The Past, I get a lot of small nuanced tidbits from what we know so far from this. So I guess we'll see! Loved the video.
I’m literally nerding out at you nerding out….love when I see other people who appreciate this series musical score as much as I do! *subscribes*
Love your channel! So many great videos that I look forward to watching!
Wow what a great breakdown, that was awesome seeing so many things I missed. Love the enthusiasm!
When I heard the Zelda theme motif in the beginning of the trailer I had a mini heart attack, it was so good! 😆
Why am i still getting tears in my eyes watching this trailer 😂 must’ve seen it 50 times already.
The music is so good! Nice to see a breakdown!
I think the last few hits on the steel sounding strings is from a dulcimer. I love how it sounds! I expect to hear more of it in the game.
Bro, the amount of passion that I could see you in your face is the exact same reactions that I was having. Obviously because of the game but also because of the amazing music man. They always not the music out of the water.
I really appreciate this video! I didn’t even notice that they has Ganon’s theme in here for some parts and there were other things like that which I didn’t catch. Good breakdown!
I love your energy so much! You react so strongly which usually feels fake by other youtubers, but you seem so genuine and it makes me even more excited about the game! Keep up the amazing content!
Watching your reactions brought a big smile to my face. You look exactly how I looked while watching the trailer the first time. The music is just so beautiful and epic, I can't wait to hear more.
My big "never gonna happen" hope for this game's music is that they pull out an "Eclipse of the sun" remix or reference, regardless of how random it'd be. The original Hyrule Warriors had some wonderful original music that I'd love to see get attention
Always amazed about people that know music and instruments so much and can recognize everything ! Wow
At 4:39, you can hear the first few notes of Twilight Princess's Main Theme
Your analysis has given me a better grasp of the entire trailer. I must have seen it several times.
I mmised you. I watched and followed your video years agooooo, like 7-8 years ago maybe ? And I didn't know that you're doing reaction videos now. I'm so happy that you're continuing to do RUclips contents and your reaction was so good. Thanks RUclips to suggesting me this one :3
Welcome back!
Wonderful to see your reaction, your excitement is so contagious, it's very nice to see a breakdown of the music, it was such a highlight for me, the main theme when the title is revealed and the saxophone hitting had me so pumped the first time I listened to it. It brought me back to watching that 2017 BOTW trailer, which also featured fantastic music.
At the very end of the Zelda lullaby in the last second the music cuts in and out very softly similar to the inverted sound sections.
props to you for convincing your parents to get you both the system and the game at 11, I could never beat the first 2 but I did manage to beat link to the past so it will always be special to me, also love this trailer reaction since you picked up on so much of the nuance of the music in the trailer it is always a pleasure to hear you talk about music so expertly
Totally agree with you on the piano and the silence utilized in Breath of the Wild. I think it jives with the gameplay experience so well. Loved your analysis!
Thanks so much for such a cool review of the music in this trailer. I have been obsessing over it, and not enough people are talking about the music in such a detailed way. I really appreciate your insight and commentary. Hope to see more in the future :)
It's so good!
The first time I saw this trailer and heard how the music was, my first thought was "I need someone that knows about music to really appreciate this". As a zelda fan, not only what the trailer shows is what made me hype so much, the music was magnificent, it's fascinating how well it works and how in its own it almost make me cry tbh
Also the saxophone is just epic and add soooooo much on the scenes, bro, this was such an experience 👌
pure goose bumps. No matter how many times I watch. The trailer packed a 2 hour score into a few seconds and it worked perfectly.
I'm so glad you got so excited about little details in the music that other people seem to gloss over or not pay attention to. I don't know how much of this music will be in the actual game though, because there was so much good music in the final Breath of the Wild trailer that wasn't in the game, but I'm sure this new soundtrack will still be awesome.
This trailer was one of the hypest game trailers in recent memory
The trailer is absolutely wonderful and both your analysis and your excitement about it are a joy to watch 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much Firamiel! I didn't realize reacting to epic game trailers can be super fun! More to come!
Fantastic to see a reaction video that digs into music with the same zest that is often expected from reactions to gameplay/story line. This was amazing, it was informative, it was endearing. And I have to admit that I quite loved the understated use of music in BotW, especially the piano. Heavy handed overworld themes would mean you'd lose the opportunity to hear the ambiance of the environment, wildlife, enemies (you learn to differentiate between Moblins, Bokoblins and Hinoxes snoring if you play enough). Thank you for such a great video.
Glad you enjoyed! Thank you!
From time to time, I like to rewatch this reaction video.
Loz is so meaningful to me.. and I'm so touched to love a franchise that means just as much to such a huge amazing fan base.
Your reactions to the music and the transitions brings me to tears.
I literally cry every time I watch bc I remember feeling the exact same way watching the trailer for the first time.
The game came out shortly after my dad lost his battle to cancer. I think that has a lot to do with it. IDK.
I just want to say, @String Player Gamer thank you for your content. And I appreciate your love for my favorite franchise. ❤
Spectacular and chock-full of new stuff, what an incredible final trailer!
Really appreciated the focus on its fantastic music in your reaction since that's your field, was quite interesting hearing your thoughts about it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great review! Loved your excitement…
Happy birthday, what a nice thing to come out near it
The way the music plays at 1:22 of the trailer kind of reminds me of how they play the overworld Hyrule Fields music in Twilight Princess
When I first heard the 25th Anniversary Medley, I cried every time I heard around 5 : 08 seconds when it started so softly built up to the crescendo … there’s a very brief silence and then WHAM! It would just crush me with nostalgia! I heard the SNES midi so many times, but the full power of the orchestra… it is still so powerful!
Same tbh
If you notice the piano notes during the Castle ascension are from the Hyrule's Castle theme.
In a link to the past and others, the Castle music is that too.
I’m guessing the theme that starts at 6:09 is the one that will be primarily used with this game since it’s been consistently hinted at throughout every trailer for the game all the way back to the 2019 E3 reveal trailer (they used the reversed audio trick on it for the beginning of the trailer for that one).
Hi De Leon, I am from Brazil and I have recently begun to follow your channel. The first Zelda game I played was A Link To The Past, like you (I was 8 years old back then). I play the electric guitar. I like very much your covers of Nintendo music. Thank you a lot for your content!
I absolutely lost it after hearing the zelda theme so epic after ganondorf screams. I kept replaying that scene over and over because while botw soundtrack was different, and i really hope that TOTK soundtrack is a revival of grand epic music that made me love the series
This is what I wanted to find. Someone reacting more to the music. That made the trailer for me. Fantastic score, the way the main title hit, the sax, the Zonai reveal... *chef's kiss*
love ur analysis. it is just so nice that u know all the musical references
Also I’m obsessed with the progression in the “cinematic” section you pointed out.
2:17 my man did the Beedle "wow"
Stumbled upon your channel.
Loved your takes and analyses.
Subbed almost instantly.
It’s so cool to see this reaction because like, it’s no secret anymore that video games have music that deserves to be hyped up as much as any other genre, but WITHIN the VGM genre I don’t know of a franchise that takes advantage of its library of soundtracks/themes better than Zelda. This trailer does SUCH a good job of using the music to be just as much of a delivery vehicle in terms of tone/atmosphere as the visuals are. SO fucking good.
I didn't know you had a youtube channel! I've never heard of you outside of a zelda album you did that I found on Spotify! Cool I've been listening to you and showing your music yo my boys for years.
Cool to actually see you and share this excitement with you! I can't wait!!!
I absolutely let a litre loose every time the saxophone part comes up
I totally love music of the "cinematic part", like you called it. It's too epic, too wonderful.
And I personally think that it's a good idea to bring back old Zelda themes
Thanks for sharing the game from the music perspective. You can hear something that I cannot reach, but from your sharing, I get it.
Thanks so much.🙇🏻♂️
Glad you enjoyed it!
Four more days! I cannot wait! The music is one of my favorite things in the zelda games!
I really liked the music of the trailer and picked up on a few things such as in the end with Zelda's lullaby and of course the main theme to The Legend of Zelda. Link To The Past was my very first Zelda game as well and I grew to love the game with it being a more puzzle base game and thinking out of the box. With the game Phantom Hourglass, some things that you do were just so out of the box things you do in games and I loved it. Well, take care and great video.
2:34 when I first saw the trailer this moment gave me the goosebumps, it still gives me the goosebumps. I immediately recognized it by the first chord.
This guy is filled with passion and i love it
Happy Birthday! I Watched this video on the 4th of May in my country lmao
Thank you!
When the main LoZ theme comes in at the beginning...my god. I could not wait to get my hands on this game x.x
It's my first time watching your channel so I don't know if you played TLOZ Spirit Tracks yet but I think as a musician you will fall in love with the soundtrack of that game.
I'm so late, but when you stopped the trailer at 1:23 I know why that feels super heightened - it's the most Star Wars / Rogue One vibes chords and melody (though it's Midna's Lament derived).
It has such HUGE depth of despair in that moment and not just that but legitimate John Williams Phantom Menace/Duel of the Fates vibes. It's so heavy!
genuinely can’t help the tears that come to my eyes when i listen to this song. it’s always been a frustrating quality of mine (crying when i listen to music) but it simultaneously reflects how good a song is (to me at least lol)
I love this trailer so much! Thanks so much for the video~
i love this video so much !!
I have always wanted to see a musical breakdown of some sort for the trailer's song, instead of the usual visual/theory (which i still welcome!)
even better knowing that you are a huge Zelda fan !!! ^.^
looking forward to more videos from you, especially for the reaction and professional insights for the actual TOTK soundtrack ^^
Thank you!!
I couldnt control myself, was screaming in every scene, SO excited! But you saw and hear amazing things i Didn't 😂 i loved your reactions ❤
