That demo was edited, meaning that it wasn't "real time". Having an AI design a 3D space like that with top level AI still would require a waiting period of around 4 minutes for each alteration. The weapon select screen was hand made by a programmer, since AI can't make its own UI yet, and the physics engine, destruction of environment and particle effects were all hand made, too. This isn't an "ai demo", it's an edited down demo of a game their programmers made in an afternoon...

I've been at enough start ups to recognize this is what they call an "aspirational demo." It just has all the earmarks of it. In this case the big giveaways for me are the assets that appear to have all come from some kind of standard asset library. I'm not sure about everything, but I recognize several of the cardboard boxes, many of the weapons and one of the characters, those were not generated by AI. Heck, I believe that M4 is the same one Battlefield used, it's a stripped back SOPMOD, that "six-bolt" handguard is unmistakable. I'm willing to bet a paycheck that EA did one of two things: * Make this demo entirely by hand, and just pretend it was AI to serve as a demo for what EA WANTS this to be in the future. * Limited the AI such that it has pre-seeded assets, so that whatever was generated would yield specific results (ex: The AI generated the level layout, but the assets were all from a pool it was provided ahead of time).
As an AI enjoyer I 100% think you are right The language that the prompter used is way too simple and not specific enough to make any sense for the current level of AI and the generation time is way too fast even if they are using a super computer if all of the assets are generated and not just a pre built It feels more like a custom mod made simple than anything
I think it's the 2nd. They're essentially just using an LLM to trigger pre-canned algorithms and use pre-made assets. I expect it to be extremely limited to what it can do, might even be genre limited. I'm 100% sure if you asked it to make a 2D game with that wobbling grid from Geometry Wars it would not be able to do it for instance. The demo makes it seem like "Oh we can think of anything and it will make it" when I expect the entire layout system can only make maze-like 3D spaces using only a repeated single cube asset.
I don't even think it was that far ahead. 100% scripted. no AI involved in that commercial, not demo. The ui chat box and select screens scream that a video editor put it together in after effects. someone may have put the actual game together by hand in a day then just took clips and edited the whole AI interactions thing on in post.
It's usually the second, because that's all "AI" does. It takes information, and input that has already been stored in its memories, cuts, then pastes back together into a chimera, or Frankenstein's monster, of an answer. So in other words, there is no such thing as real AI. Just a program that's really good at faking it.
The problem is, if EA does TOO good of a job, then users will create their own games entirely on their own and EA won't be able to keep releasing new versions of FIFA every year. They'd create a product which competes with themselves.
you think this is a stupid decision for the company that only cares about making more money? The product is irrelevant at this point. This is YEARS away from even putting a slight dent into game developers jobs. It will produce games that you like for 5 minutes before you realise theres a reason why game developers exist.
Exactly this. I've tried similar AI tools as a web designer. What they're doing is essentially a sandbox like Fortnite has, where there's a specific set of parameters and the only real difference is that people can type in what the game should be, rather than having to do some sort of visual code, or modifying the settings/parameters. But you still have to learn *how* to type what you want. Like if you type "make it more epic", you're not going to get the results you want. Real life designers can't even get you the right results if you ask that. It's too ambiguous, it doesn't mean anything.
This is just investor bait, Unreal could already do this years ago. Maybe not from a text promp but close enough. You can't do any decent games from something so basic.
In 1996 there was a gaming community on AOL called Engage, it was like ANT with forums, except Engage also allowed people to play vs each other via LAN, basically a tunneling service. One day when I was 11, I got home from school and quickly got online to see what everyone is talking about on the WarCraft 2 Engage forums, only to be met with a message that Engage has been bought out by a company called "EA". EA had "big plans" for the community. Nothing happened, they closed the forums and gaming service down, and the community vanished overnight. Having a robust user content tool is a valid game design path. Things like Roblox, Warcraft, Meet Your Maker, and Dwarf Fortress leaned on it pretty heavily. Minecraft is another example where it survived the test of time because of what users can add. I think the problem is when companies like EA, Blizzard, or Bethesda try to label user-generated content as theirs.
Honestly If more players did that , we'd have a lot more cool indie games That actually align with what the community wants. I JUST FOUND EA'S MASTER PLAN. So nice of them to grow the independent scene.
Nah, what they'll likely attempt to do at some point is a better version of Dreams. By the way, prompts are x dollars each, we have a monthly sub of x dollars, we also have ads and have an option to remove ads for x dollars a month, and we have premium crafted AI games that you can purchase for x dollars as well that are maintained and updated by our AI dev teams." Mind you...IF they ever create an interface like that (highly unlikely).
However, many gamers are more and more tuned it. Hence, the failure of stuff like Su!c!de Squad and Star Wars Outlaws and the success of stuff like Wukong, Baldur's Gate, Palworld, Hogwarts Legacy, etc We can smell the BS and that's why studios like Larian will survive and studios like Ubisoft will not. Also, more and more devs are looking to go independent and privately owned.
Honestly, I kinda feel bad for the investors. This reminds me of those fake game ads, where the dialogue is bad, the promises are extravagant and the gameplay is entirely fake.
@@REO_Speedweed Same, the vast majority of investors, i'd say 95% of them are just people trying to make companies milk gamers for a profit. It's not about escapism and passion as it used to be 2 decades ago when EA was making stuff like NFS and the first Assassins Creed games.

* Not to mention the texture and model used for the cardboard boxes, weapons and character models. AI cannot yet make 3D models of people and accurately texture them and give them alternating outfit choices as displayed here, btw.

I've been at enough start ups to recognize this is what they call an "aspirational demo."
It just has all the earmarks of it.
I'm willing to bet a paycheck that EA did one of two things:
* Make this demo entirely by hand, and just pretend it was AI to serve as a demo for what EA WANTS this to be in the future.
* Limited the AI such that it has pre-seeded assets, so that whatever was generated would yield specific results (ex: The AI generated the level layout, but the assets were all from a pool it was provided ahead of time).
As an AI enjoyer I 100% think you are right
The language that the prompter used is way too simple and not specific enough to make any sense for the current level of AI and the generation time is way too fast even if they are using a super computer if all of the assets are generated and not just a pre built
It feels more like a custom mod made simple than anything
I think it's the 2nd. They're essentially just using an LLM to trigger pre-canned algorithms and use pre-made assets. I expect it to be extremely limited to what it can do, might even be genre limited. I'm 100% sure if you asked it to make a 2D game with that wobbling grid from Geometry Wars it would not be able to do it for instance. The demo makes it seem like "Oh we can think of anything and it will make it" when I expect the entire layout system can only make maze-like 3D spaces using only a repeated single cube asset.
Fuse and Lifeline are characters from Apex Legends as well as half the weapons shown in the weapon selection UI.

You can't do any decent games from something so basic.

one thing these people failed to understand or might even refuse to: why would consumer pay sky high price for something with low cost, low effort production and low value?
How dare they try and make more money shame on them
Excuse me? Isn’t that the purpose of the company to make more profit? Why should company gift money to someone who they don’t need lol. I bet u won’t pay me salary just to draw penises on your wall, when u can pay it to the guy who can turn ur wall into masterpiece

As a solo game developer, this would be pretty cool. Unfortunately, any cool thing that this could potentially become is marred by the fact that EA is producing it. Also, your average Joe does not buy a video game just so he can make his own levels.
I mean Mario Maker sold well enough to get a sequel so I'm not so sure about that part.
@@squidshark1 Go play any of those levels and then tell me they were designed by an average Joe.
@@FireFox64000000 The 1-1 recreations, memes, and troll levels were all built by average joes
Afterwards, EA's stock dropped. Investors weren't buying the BS.
LOL 6.5% down while the whole market went brrrrr lol. Amazing
Yep, investors probably realize that this AI crap will cause EA to bleed money, and they want out before their stocks lose too much value.
I bet 110% when he was in the board room selling this to leadership he said "You can reduce staff by X%" And they were like "Say no more, infinite funding for this guy so we can lay off everyone."
May they go off to start another successful idie studio.
And you KNOW that the ToS will say that anything and everything you create in this software will belong to the company, and they reserve the right to sell it to other players with 0 profits going to you.
