They were primarily used on Great Eastern Main Line services from London Liverpool Street to Clacton-on-Sea, Colchester Town and Ipswich. They also ran to Walton-on-the-Naze and the Mayflower line. They occasionally operated through to Norwich.[6]
In April 2004, the Great Eastern franchise was merged into the Greater Anglia franchise that was awarded to National Express East Anglia. All passed with the franchise to Greater Anglia in February 2012. The Class 360s were not maintained by the franchisee, but under contract by Siemens at Ilford EMU Depot.[7]
All were replaced by Class 720s in 2020/2021 and moved to East Midlands Railway (EMR) to operate services on the Midland Main Line from London St Pancras to Corby from May 2021.[8][9] They will have their 3+2 seating replaced with 2+2 and be modified to operate at 110 mph (180 km/h).[10] They will be based at Bedford Cauldwell Walk depot.[11][12]
Beginning in June 2020, all were cycled through Siemens at Kings Heath Depot, Northampton to be modified for 110 mph (180 km/h) operation.[13] The first was transferred to EMR's Cricklewood Depot in November 2020,[14] with all having transferred by February 2021.[15]
They are planned to be introduced on the 16th may 2021 with East Midlands railway, as well 360 102 was repainted into the EMR connect livery. [16] Some units won't be refurbished into the EMR connect livery before it's entry to service.
360101-360108, 360113, 360116-360118, 360120-360121 Current driving training. Entering service in May 2021. Numbers of ones today 360116 and 360119.

The new EMR livery on the Class 360 Desiro is very smart.

As a part of the class 360 refirbushment, I wonder in theory if its possible to shave some of the weight I.e maybe modding the structure of the bogies to make them lighter to be beneficial . I mean 360s are ridiculously heavy. Making each bogie 2 tons lighter would make a world of a difference to overall acceleration consistency taking away at least 16 tons away from each unit. (These trains are fast already, but a faster train would be better, I'd assume esspeically reached that 110mph mark)
These supposedly reach 60mph in around 49 seconds. Maybe they could hit 60mph in under 40seconds with the weight reduction and carrying on into higher speeds . Just a thought experiment anyway.

The track cleaning train sure could do with a good wash itself, also the refurbishment of the 360 fleet doesn't appear to be happening with any kind of urgency
