Solid trip with decent night sleep conditions! But i must say, the private operator Astra Tras Carpathic has the best night train conditions in all of Romania! As a recommendation, please try some of the day trips in Romania through the Carpathian Mountains as we have a lot of day trains (with windows that open) that go from Transilvania to Moldova and you will find some of the most breathtaking views anywhere!
@@absurdalny u can try Brasov-Iasi, Deva-Craiova, Bucharest-Brasov, Deda-Brasov, Cluj-Suceava and many more, that's are the routes which are coming at this moment in my mind

Great trip. Perfect combination of Electric Locomotive from 60's and the coaches age around 50 years old. I think older rolling stock sometimes give you more comfort than current rolling stock.
I remember travelling in these couchettes with my family from Czechia to Italy and back in the early 2000s. The middle bunk was spectacular as your head was at the same level as fully opened window. Great A/C for hot summer evenings!
I've done a day trip train from Bucharest to Sinaia last year. I've also taken the train from Bucharest to Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria last year too which was in a Turkish couchette carriage IIRC b
I looks decent compared to the one in my home city Buzău. I mean it's nice, I like the old school design, but It could use a new coat of paint and maybe put a roof over the other lines and to repair the underground tunnel between the lines.
@damcoentertainment3956 it s much smaller. Bucharest also has it s beautiful buildings and great Parks, but i wouldn t trade it for my beloved hometown.
These classic loco hauled coaches are still one of the best in my opinion....with a modern loco like the Siemens Vectron (230kmph with ETCS) these trains (200-230 max kmph) would still be very much relevant as both day and night trains all over EU
Considering lots of rolling stock being already certified in almost all of European Union, with RIC certified coaches, they would be more reliable in the long term than electric multiple units that are meddlesome when pending authorisation. I believe the future can have a better alternative, than rolling plastics with hard seating...
This is the same train as the one I reviewed. I am glad you agree as well that this is a great type of train car. I slept in a couchette though which is also very comfortable.
The only Romanian train I’ve used, so far, was the airport special from Gare de Nord to OTP. What a nightmare! Sardines have roomier accommodation. Maybe I chose the wrong time to travel but a two coach train going to an international airport doesn’t seem adequate….Hasn’t put me off train travel though, I’m planning to do the one in this video but in reverse. (The landscape in your suitcase promo looks like the south Pennines, east or west?)
I took the same sort of sleeper from Bucharest to Budapest back in 01. Very much the same experience: comfortable, friendly staff. I didn't even know to look for the shower. It was a great journey, apart from the single flea bite...
Been on the Sleeper Bucharest-Brasov-Sibiu-Budapest twice in 2022 and 2023. But if you are in those parts, I especially remember the Moldovan Sleper from Chisinau towards Bucharest. That is a historic experience. Personally for landscpe, I truely enjoyed Sofia to Bucharest once you leave Sofia for the next 2-3 hours
Almost EVERY station in eastern Europe behind the iron curtain and build in the 50's are almonst the same in architecture ! A big central hall with these huge front windows !
Do check out the sleeper train from Bucharest to Chișinău. Very old cars as well, and the Chișinău station is cute. You could then connect it with the sleeper train from Chișinău to Kyiv, which wasn't as noteworthy to me, the cars were fairly new I think.
In the summer of 2021 I travelled with this train in a coach from Budapest. But my train wnt on a more southern route along the Donau My ultimate goal was the Black Sea
You should take the train in Romania through the Moldova region. Now there's a truly unexplored land. I would have to warn you. It's quite a challenge :)
None of them, it's an ex-DB (Bundesbahn - West Germany) sleeping car, built by Hansa in Bremen from 1957. One of the best of its time, used to have a shower and air conditioning, though it's no more active on CFR...
These German sleeping-cars should be air-conditioned but maybe the system was out of order. They were replaced by the ComfortLine car (that now operate for ÖBB nightjet) and some were sold to Romania.
Having a toilet that flushes right onto the tracks? No doubt behind the times and absolutely disgusting. Not having a working shower also isn't so good. Considering that CFR isn't the national railway of Japan (Japan Railway), on-time performance appears to be pretty good.
@ I don’t remember the particular video the Lonestar Trip Reports RUclips man claimed that a carriage he had taken on a Canadian sleeper train had featured a room in which had been staying that had featured a warning that the toilet in that room had featured a warning that flushing it would drop its contents right onto the tracks, but in that video he did claim it had been “disgusting“ were that toilet to have back then still not been connected to a storage tank in another part of the carriage via a series of pipes. if I can find a specific video, I plan to post at least the title as a follow-up to this post.
I found the video in question, posted in October 2023 by the Lonestar Trip Reports RUclips man to his channel: "VIA’s 24 Hour Sleeper - THE OCEAN from Montreal to Halifax." His claim of having found "disgusting" the non-retention nature of the toilet in his room on that sleeper train starts at the 11:51 mark of that video.
Calling this part of Europe an Eastern Europe is pretty offending to people who live there. Central and Central-Southern Europe is not an Eastern Europe.
