I hope that pricing continues. They will pack out every train if they do. In restaurant prices, your dinner alone was at least 30 Euros including the wine. Then add another 10 for breakfast. So you paid approx 80 Euros for a sleeper cabin. You would hardly get across France for 80 Euros, and that would be just for a seat. Remarkable.
Last year I paid 79 Euros for a private deluxe sleeper on 2 of the other InterCity Notte services from Milan to Naples and Rome to Venice. Amazing value. A word of warning - if one is thinking of trying to use their Eurail pass for this - DON'T. Intercity Notte is one of the few trains that you should NEVER use a pass on. It's less money to purchase a ticket without one. Even if you are connecting from another train, don't. If one wants to spend 2 full days in Venice but with only one hotel night, these trains make it possible. You can leave Rome for Venice at about 9pm (IIRC) and get to Venice at 5am. You then leave late in the evening the next day. If one doesn't want to go to Venice with lots of luggage, I remember there was a rather dumpy hotel in Mestre that had 24/7 accessible bag storage that can be booked in advance through Nannybag. Just get off at Mestre and it's not too far from the station. You would then just take a bus or train in to Venice proper for a small cost (although IIRC if you plan to buy a pass for the Vaporetto, there is one that would also cover the bus).
@@LiamWalsheliamskitchen depends a bit, you can definitely find very reasonably priced tickets, but you have to book in advance. Interrail/Eurail has the added advantage of flexibility, although admittedly, the more fancy options will likely be sold out if you just show up in the station for that night... The difference isn't as big as in other countries, though, so even if you have an Interrail/Eurail pass, it's always wise to check prices for ordinary tickets as well, you're right about that.
Happy New Year Paul! Love your videos, informative and to the point. I really like how you always show the menu and food. None of your videos feel rushed
Fantastic review Paul. You can hear that genuine positivity coming through for something that is "setting new standards". Also I note the wine list / prices - what can I say + I'm jealous don't get these in a restaurant let alone a train I'm the UK. Great review and wishing you all the best for 2025. Cheers. 😀
Treni Turistici Italiani also operates a daytime train between Milan and Nice as well as another sleeper with a dining car included, the Espresso Cadore, which connects Rome to Santo Stefano di Cadore and an onward bus to Cortina d'Ampezzo in North Eastern Italy. Recently, they also created at short notice a special sleeper service between Turin, Milan, and Sicily with a special price of €32 on way for residents of Sicily travelling home during the holidays, as there is a huge controversy about steep train and airlines fares between Northern and Southern Italy during Christmas.
They have just revamped a little the old sleeper cars and upped the restaurant car too. I know these trains well seeing the number of times I have been up and the peninsula from the 1970s through to the new century in them.
Ristorante/Cascina Collavini looks wonderful! The rooms are still "normal" from the pictures, I am no fan of all new looks with designer themes or IKEA furniture, and prices are very reasonable! If I ever come to the area I shall definitely visit.
Enjoyed that, Paul. Something I might try. Had my first experience of Italian trains earlier this year, between Verona and Venice. I was impressed. Happy New Year.
When this rolling stock was in use for Paris-Venice, they had one car with en-suite shower rooms - strange not to have retained that, although the actual stock could have gone elsewhere by now. Those cabins had originally slept 4 and were more spacious for two than any other sleeper I've seen/used.
Wanting to thank you so much for your excellent videos As a consequence of my profound "motion sickness", I explore the world courtesy of RUclips. Your videos are the best to enable me to explore the world and experience what I am unable to see in person.
I think your channel is not about food (outside the trains or train stations) however, it's worth mentioning i think Alba is the place where Nutella was invented.
It's actually quite disappointing as the train runs in tunnel for a lot of the distance past La Spezia as far as San Remo. Further south in runs a few km in from the coast.
Hi from Turin, the price of train tickets are inexpensive in Italy, especially if you compare them to the UK. Expensive for minimum wage Italians though.Turin is a must to visit, it's known as the small Paris.Thank you for a really well done video! 🤗
If they put some warm colour lights on the walls instead of the hospital looking lights on the ceiling it would look so much better, comfortable and inviting
“A nod to Italian train heritage”…..I am old enough to remember overnight (tourist) trains in Italy in the early 80s…..when if you asked for tea, coffee or hot chocolate you were poured the same drink !!!

Maybe you could also put it in context and compare with same journey on a normal inter-city train which takes approx 8 hrs and costs €29. Or if you want to go a bit upmarket, the Frecciarossa costs about €59. Looking at a lot of the comments, many people compare the cost of your trip to UK train prices and, in that respect, €125 is obviously a bargain. The last train I took in UK was from Notts to Stansted, and even more than 10yrs ago, they wanted more than 120 squid which incidentally, was more than the price of my flight. God only knows what loan you need to take out for the same trip now. British Rail, eh! However, a few yrs ago, took sleeper train Kiev-Odessa, and that only cost me about €18. Now that was a bargain. Cheers

Nice video of a lovely train. What do you mean there's no danger on such a train?? I've watched James Bond. He always gets attacked on nice trains!
And remember, Alba during fall = truffle fair, an absolute must see event
Oooh, that sounds very interesting!
This is perfect timing! I'm just researching a possible Italy by rail trip and this has given me some great inspiration :)
unfortunately, the service ended in november
Exceptional value for money Paul. Another great video.
Thank you Neil!

seems like a really good deal, thanks for sharing!
Will definately go for it! Looks good👌🔥
Wow. Stunning. Cant wait to try it.

Great train travel like this used to happen in North America until the late 1960s when planes and cars took over.
Simply amazing.
Spettacolo non conoscevo questo treno può essere un possibile viaggio per me in Italia
Excellent trip report Paul!😸
great video happy new years
I hope you didn't miss a wine & truffles tour in Alba! Best wines of Italy there. (Maybe a bit late for white truffles now).
great video 😍😍❤❤
Happy New Year Paul! Could you share how to find out in advance when these special trains will be running? Thanks for the beautiful vids!
Happy New Year, Paul! 🎊 🎉
Nice video Paul beautiful train, tank you
I really have to return to Italy... Damn, that's some juicy footage. And yes, Piemonte is one of Italy's forgotten gems, definitely worth a visit.
Let it be forgotten for the mass tourism please
@nicolettastrada5976 well, not all at once, but some visitors are good.
Awesome VFM for 2 meals and a bed compared to what we pay for a long day on a UK heritage stock mainline 'railtour'.
Hopefully you tasted some of the great wines produced in Alba area.you showed many vineyards but didn't mention it
Great trip Paul 😊
I would love to go on this train. Have you tried Japanese trains? Greetings from Canada.
Since much of the route runs right up along the Mediterranean coast, it must be very scenic in the daytime.
It's actually quite disappointing as the train runs in tunnel for a lot of the distance past La Spezia as far as San Remo. Further south in runs a few km in from the coast.
Amazing journey.
Great trip.
Hey Paul. You do some great videos, but this is one of my absolute favourites! Thank you. I''m going to watch it again now!😄
brilliant review
The pricing and quality of service on this train should embarrass the UK sleeper operators.
Bear in mind that this isn't a standard train.
Yeah this is not a normal sleeper train. It is a special touristic luxury train
This looks fabulous and I am keen to book it, but I can't seem to get beyond the "Charter" tab on the home page. Am I missing something? Thanks!
It's a one off train.
Thought there was a mid-platform underpass connecting all the platforms at Termini...?
"Perfume sticks"!! I am dying. Also known as diffusers.
LOVE the train. Happy New Year.

How do I find out about deals like this?
Brilliant! Just back from training it around Italy. I wish I knew about this one.
Nice video

Good video 😅
Sadly there's no such route offered on the site linked in the description 😢
Because it was one off.
Happy new year before hand 🎉
The "sleeper" car you were in is actually a converted ex-couchette car.
What happened to the train sounds? Did you have a technical problem?
hi paul, what is the title of the music during the station part of the video. as an ex 60`s/70`s guitarist i`d love to know this tune, cheers
I love having a vpn, btw!
Omg this is so much fun! 👏🏽
Is there an upper berth?
Certainly looks like it - behind the picture of the bridge.
Great video. I think Italy is one European country that's starting to run tourist trains that approach Japanese ones in quality and form.
Wait...Five Guys in Italy? Now I've seen everything!
If you go to Italy and get five guys I think you need to be institutionalized.
It's pretty horrible seeing American stores in Italy. I always carefully avoid them.
The joys of franchising.
Yeah, I agree, that's horrible
Dinner at Five Guys would have cost nearly as much as the train ticket. 😅
Thanks for this!
Wait so the ticket for that entire experience was just £125? That amazing value for money.
125 EUR, so just over £100 rather!
Incredible, Amtrak would probably charge $1000 for this 😂
@@andrealauer4493 That's exactly what I was thinking.
Beautiful! But no shower facilities on the train?
What great value!
Thank you for this post! Wow, an amazing journey. Have an amazing New Year 2025. Cheers. 🍾🎉🥳
Alas, Termini also has a plethora of pick pockets, to my personal sorrow, no police and no lost and found so you don’t even get your ID back.
When did you last go there?
Well done
