My only trip on the equivalent to this train was in 1971! A mark ! compartment coach with the old bouncy seats. Some of us tried to sleep in the luggage racks, which promptly gave way! It took forever and we we deposited at Corrour with a two day hike to Fort William plus climbing Ben Nevis. Unforgetable, especially the midges!
I rode the Caledonian Sleeper from Fort William to London in May 2018. The equipment in this video is a big improvement over my train which was running way past its expiration date. I love the design of the new diner lounge burt I'm not sure how comfortable those low back stools are. Thanks for taking me on a free ride through the breathtaking Scottish Highlands again.
Excellent as always. Reviews are a bit mixed for the Caledonian sleeper service so yours was a delight to see, it being so good. We miss the weekly vlogs so good to see this one. Next time I’m sure you will introduce it with yourself in the frame.
We rode the Caledonian Sleeper from London to Fort William in October 2023. As family with two kids we booked 2 club rooms. And I never forget it! For me it's the best sleeper train in Europe. On second place will be the sleeper trains in Finland.
@@bestrazerthere was going to be an international sleeper service through the tunnel. The coaches were built and ready to go but the service never started. The stock was sold to ViaRail in Canada and put to work on The Ocean, the 22 hour train between Halifax and Montreal. I believe they are still in service on that route.
9:00 I recently looked at doing Glasgow-London the classic room. With a railcard they wanted £170 roughly. Boarding in Aberdeen ? Only £120 Needless to say, I booked from Aberdeen 21:25 Virtually all routes and all accommodation types (yes I've done seated). You never know what you'll get on the Caledonian Sleeper- I've had it all from faultless to ending up stranded 600 miles away .
I recall doing the sleeper service from Euston to Stirling in March 1983. Back then you could also take your car which went in a truck at the rear of the train. I don’t recall getting much sleep in my bunk or much food on board. I think there was a wake up call and a cup of tea and off the train at about 6am in Stirling. Then a short wait while my car was off loaded. I then found a hotel for some breakfast and was travelling on to Glencoe for a week of skiing. Not a good skiing experience as facilities were very primitive back then.
That's the Motorail service that ended in 1995, which is a shame because you can no longer conveniently bring your own car with you when travelling along the routes.
I can vouch for the seating to be extremely uncomfortable. They dont tell you till you have PAID that you have to vacate the train at Edinburgh at 03:30 and stand around in the cold whilst the train is shunted around!! I went in October this year. The toilets were blocked and filling the corridor with you know what. Never again.
Team building outing??? My only Anglo-Scottish sleeper trip was Edinburgh-London in the mid 1980s, no plans to repeat given the prices - even with an old codgers railcard. Looking forward to my Budapest-Stuttgart sleeper in March though.
You said in the video that there were 2 club cars on the train, one for Inverness and the other for Aberdeen and Fort William. We saw you having breakfast in one so how did the Aberdeen passengers get their breakfasts?
Maybe you and a few other fellow World Wide train bloggers could send Amtrak suggestions on what to install / or how to configure the cars to be most comfortable - you clearly stated you though this bed was a little narrow - how much wider would have been better. Amtrak here in the states is supposedly looking to replace its' aging fleet - it would be nice to implement some of the best ideas from around the world. Safe Travels
I traveled on the CS and had a harrowing experience; that is to say, we got stuck in Harrow for about 30 minutes and I got 50% of the price refunded. Though we only got the ticket price refunded, I still had to pay full price for my coffee the night before in the bar car.
Night trains are alright for business travel or locals, however, as a visitor to GB I wouldn't want to travel at night. I would miss what I came to the country for: the scenery. I'd prefer to extent my vacation days or come back (preferably) at another time.
@@NonstopEurotrip agree that it is mostly the doubled price - the new company touted the major improvements including all cabins being en suite, but that didn't totally match the final product - i believe they also said the cabins would be a bit larger to justify the increased fare, but that also didn't translate - i saw couples sharing one, with the larger spouse unhappily hanging out in the aisle waiting until they could enter without throwing someone out the window (i.e. after the first person was in bed) - they may have also promised a larger bar car, but i've never tried to fight the horde to get in there the second the doors open - for the fare i paid i could have flown back and forth several times, so i know they're catering to rail fans - and for those who never experienced the original version, it might be OK

Scottish midges can be freeze-dried and used as sunloungers.
@@markhbfindlay The midges are so annoying that someone wrote a song about that!

The Scorail Sleeper is the most poetic form of transport in the UK. I will never tire of it.
Excellent video indeed, most enjoyable :) this is on my bucket list, as well as The English Riviera sleeper too ! :)

20:28 Yeah, the bed seemed narrower than the VR rail in Finland.
Yeah very much so!
Fantastic review, everything looks great if a little pricey, that scenery in the highlands is absolutely stunning 👍
It really is! 😁
Shame it couldn’t be extended to Mainland Europe
Was that ever considered?
@@bestrazeryeah, it was just to france but either way it would've been nice to be able to travel internationally in a hotel room.
Yeah but channel tunnel restrictions are so prohibitive :(

Ive heard the hot water never works in the showers. Maybe it's fixed by now😅 great train though❤🎉
They had sorted it out - but apparently it wasn't working on this trip 👀
definitely on our list!

Glad you think so!
The Caledonian sleeper lounges can founded on the concourse and on platform 1 here at london Euston and the trains depart from platform 1
As shown in the video
Did you even watch the video? 😂
I'd love to go in Scotlands Sleepers

They just need to take notes from VR Finland's sleeper trains which are perfect 👍🏻
Euston square is a different underground station from Euston
