We used to go see Pantera at a club in the 80s called The Ranch but had different singer. Probably saw them 50+ times on Friday and Saturday nights once or twice a month back then. Dimebag was called Diamond Darrell then, I still have a pick he gave me. Dime and his brother Vinnie Paul, Drums, were really nice guys. Spoke with them many times and drank with them some. They always put on a great show and always had a great time! RIP Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott :(

The Abbott brothers went on to form Damageplan, while Anselmo continued work on several side projects, including Down, which Brown joined as well. On December 8, 2004, Darrell was shot and killed on stage by a mentally unstable fan during a Damageplan concert in Columbus, Ohio. Vinnie Paul went on to form Hellyeah after his brother's death, and died of heart failure in 2018. Darrell was murdered the same date as John Lennon was murdered, December 8, 1980.

So giftet to balance his compositions artistically and tecnically, along with a lot of variation in the ways he plays, and shifts between more and less aggression and more silent parts. Also, the shifts in rythms and tempo. In addition to that, he also was a true original in his choise of notes and exactly that talent gave such a great power and feeling and uniqueness to the songs of the band 🙂🙂🎸🎶🎵.

Why not do the studio version of Domination? I know everybody loves that live version in Moscow, but it doesn't do justice to the strength of Anselmo's vocals.

Though as I look though the channel and what videos they've done, hitting something that explores a different side of Metallica might be a good idea. At least it's not from the St Anger album, though I think if they tried to re-record it and mostly get rid of those flat sounding snares it would be a lot more accepted. I do appreciate they tried something different even if it didn't work out for most people.
fun fact: when the Dallas Stars hockey team won the stanley cup in 1999, they all went and partied at Vinnie Paul's (the drummer from pantera and brother of the guitarist Dimebag). at 5AM in the morning one of the players tried to toss the stanley cup off his balcony into the pool and dented it up. btw it has a few curse words i think, but "Living through me" by Pantera is the most brutal riffs of all time

Every album they put out was a masterpiece. Saw Hellyeah when Vinnie was still with us. Met the band in Baltimore. Nicest, most humble person I’ve ever met. He took time to talk with my son and me. Pure class.

Earlier on they say they didn’t cry, but later on admit they should have. I know the feeling well. I think the fluctuations in the tempo and heaviness of the music/singing replicate different stages of grief as well as different emotions. I think they unlock their doors and pass the cemetery gates in the hopes their loved one will come back into their house/life.
