Another "I bought a sewing machine during the pandemic, and it stayed in the box" person here. I've been so intimidated by it for years now. But after watching this video, I think I've found a channel I can watch and learn along with, since there aren't any in person 'sewing club' or 'community class' sessions for easily intimidated types like myself lol Thank you for being detailed without going off on tangents. A lot of people when they're trying to teach beginners will skip steps because they've forgotten all the things they actually had to learn along the way. Assume nothing is previously known, a step is never obvious enough to skip verbalizing, and never talk down while explaining. 👍

It's actually a bad idea to leave an unused sewing machine in the box for a long time. When you get a new sewing machine you need to test it asap so the return date doesn't pass if it is faulty. At least test it to see if it stitches and that the timing is good ect even if you don't want to make anything yet.

Thanks so much for sharing this good information Sis...I actually did use my brother runaway project sewing machine when I first got it as a gift for my bday back in February 2015 - 2016 and I actually did take it out the box and use it 2x (twice) before and did pretty good my 1st time practicing using scrap fabric by following the instructions but around that 3rd time of using it Somewhere I had a hard time remembering if I put the bobbin thread in in correctly and then the needle and thread would get stuck... as after that I had began to get frustrated and never used my sewing machine again...But after seeing this video I am going to start back using my sewing machine again because it had been sitting in the box for a long while now and I need to put it to use again 👍🏿 and I do want to start practicing and revamp and recycling old clothes with the machine...So again thanks so much...Appreciate you girl ❤😂

I really love that you showed different ways to practice sewing at the end. Also, the best piece of advice I ever received when I started sewing was to NOT FOLLOW THE NEEDLE. I think that most new sewists just instinctively keep an eye on the thing that is moving the fastest on the sewing machine. I've halted many projects because I couldn't sew a straight line. Glad to see more people giving this advice to newbies.

I have never sewn before, except once with hand sewing a hole in my winter hat, So I want to start, and so I am gonna pick up a cheap used machine at a thrift shop and learn, But I was not sure how to tell if the machine even works or has its parts and whatnot. You sure did help me feel more comfortable with going ahead. @@BlueprintDIY thank you so much. I just started with a test cloth, the Brother machine was easy to set up. But I'm not sure how do I start the sew and how do I end it so that the thread doesn't get undone later, can you please help or point me in the right direction? I'm using the Brother LX3817. Thank you so much

Thank you. I would spend too much time trying to insert the bobbin as it would jam. This really helped!
