Another "I bought a sewing machine during the pandemic, and it stayed in the box" person here. I've been so intimidated by it for years now. But after watching this video, I think I've found a channel I can watch and learn along with, since there aren't any in person 'sewing club' or 'community class' sessions for easily intimidated types like myself lol Thank you for being detailed without going off on tangents. A lot of people when they're trying to teach beginners will skip steps because they've forgotten all the things they actually had to learn along the way. Assume nothing is previously known, a step is never obvious enough to skip verbalizing, and never talk down while explaining. 👍

It's actually a bad idea to leave an unused sewing machine in the box for a long time. When you get a new sewing machine you need to test it asap so the return date doesn't pass if it is faulty. At least test it to see if it stitches and that the timing is good ect even if you don't want to make anything yet.

One of the most helpful vids ive watched. Got my machine 3 days ago, watched multiple vids & read the manual but NO ONE except this lovely lady explained ALL the little things to get you going. Not over-explained so that ur overloaded but def filled in a few blanks i couldnt find answers to elsewhere, including the manufacturers "beginners guide"!

I really love that you showed different ways to practice sewing at the end. Also, the best piece of advice I ever received when I started sewing was to NOT FOLLOW THE NEEDLE. I think that most new sewists just instinctively keep an eye on the thing that is moving the fastest on the sewing machine. I've halted many projects because I couldn't sew a straight line. Glad to see more people giving this advice to newbies.

You are GREAT!!! I have never sewn before, except once with hand sewing a hole in my winter hat, So I want to start, and so I am gonna pick up a cheap used machine at a thrift shop and learn, But I was not sure how to tell if the machine even works or has its parts and whatnot. You sure did help me feel more comfortable with going ahead. I find a lot of beginner videos, Yet they all seem to be videos for people who have some knowledge and not for people who are actually starting from knowing nothing. This is awesome. Thank you.

Just found your videos. Thank you so much! You helped me get started. I loved your statement, “the best sewing machine for you, is the one you are going to use!” My machine has been in the box since Christmas. I ASKED for it from my husband, but it just seemed too daunting to start. 🤦🏻‍♀️ …thank you for your encouragement!!!!❤️

Thanks for sharing! Sometimes I use the presser foot as guide. Some of the newer sewing machines can adjust the position of the needle, which is very convenient.

Hi there. I used to sew when I was a teen but soon after stopped. I so needed this video for the push. Thanks so much! I bought a sewing machine almost 2 years ago and have talked myself out of unboxing my new machine... Thus still hand sewing instead of using my new machine🤭Now I have the confidence to get back into being more creative. Thanks again for your informative videos. I'm definitely going to try the jeans to skirt project.💥

Ok - that sweater is the BOMBA ! I actually have not idea how to sew - will be purchasing my first machine soon - and want all the seams out for my husband who is very sensitive to the scratching and such -- and I was going to do it anyway - and thought it would look funny - but you just showed up wearing exactly what I want to do !!!! TUTORIAL ON THAT TOP PLEASE ! :)
