You 're right! I discovered Preppy Kitchen by accident, stayed to try cheesecake recipe (I have tried 4 of about 6 cheesecake recipes so far ;)) ) and got beyond extremely keen on baking, I love those recipes as well and the way John explains everything and shows the process without cuts ;)

Y'all can call me crazy, but this works ! I bought a Face Roller ( kind of resembles a cheese slicer ) and I keep it in the freezer for use in the kitchen... When I need something smoothed out perfectly, that's what I use. 😅😁
John, this recipe is 100% perfect! Mine came out perfect on the first shot with a beautiful spiral, even layered when cut, and no cracking. The sponge was so moist! I nearly ate the entire thing myself; thank you!!
I just made the pumpkin roll, twice actually. The first time the batter was very thin and when I unrolled it from the parchment paper it was sticking and falling apart. I tried it again with 2 eggs instead of 3. The batter had a better consistency but even though I followed all the instructions from your video, it was stick sticking and cracked a bit here and there first from the parchment paper, and also from the tea towel after I let it cool completely. I was able to spread the butter cream cheese icing and somehow roll it despite the imperfections. I am still going to serve it tomorrow for Thanksgiving. It's not looking as beautiful as yours but it will still be delicious! I want to try it again another time and see if it will turn out perfect like yours, practice makes perfect they say! Thank you John for your awesome recipes (I make numerous of them from your channel). You are very gifted and a great teacher to all!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE pumpkin roll! My husband and I almost prefer it over pumpkin pie- I like to add chopped walnuts and/or minced pieces of candied ginger over the top of the frosting before rolling it back up.
You know what i love the most about your video's..? That you accidentally drop the nutmeg in the bowl, spill the flower, forget to turn the mixer down because you just put in icing sugar.... just like everybody messes around baking! Thank you for not editing those out 🌷

Same! My grandma’s recipe uses 2/3 cup self rising flour though (no regular flour and no baking powder) and it only has cinnamon as far as spices go. My grandma is still with us and always makes this as well❤️

I made this this afternoon for my husband who loves pumpkin, but not cream cheese. You are right that the cake is nearly foolproof and it didn't even crack as some of the roll cakes I've made often do. Mine came out beautifully. I made this recipe for the first time last month and it turned out perfectly! I had never made any kind of swiss roll before . You know what, the towel with powdered sugar was completely unnecessary. I just rolled it in its parchment paper and let cool on the countertop. No cracking. Easy. It peeled off the parchment with no fuss and when I was done frosting it and re-rolling it, I wrapped it in that same piece of parchment paper and popped it in the fridge to chill. Let's ditch that towel altogether.

I have been making pumpkin roll for thirty years. I've never used parchment paper and I've never had a fail. Heavily grease and flour the pan and check for any "stuck spots" with a flat spatula before flipping!
I make these every Thanksgiving, it’s a family favorite for both sides of my family. I sprinkle chopped walnuts or pecans over the cake batter before baking. The uts on top just send this roll from good to absolutely delicious.
I made this cake yesterday for my birthday, and it was delicious! It was so much fun to make, and the flavor is just what I want from a pumpkin cake! Plenty of real pumpkin, warmly spiced, and not super sweet. I think I'm going to keep using the dishtowel technique for every roll cake I bake from now on, too. It was definitely easier to roll it up in the towel instead of stiff, crinkly parchment paper, and it stayed super moist and soft until it was ready for frosting. Thank you for this recipe!
My roll cake is currently cooling off getting its "curl" in the fridge at 323am.....lol. Couldn't wait. I also made my frosting way ahead of time, so it is also in the fridge. And yes, I will take it out first so it can soften up. This is one of my favorite cakes, and you have to look high and low to find it in the stores and pay 8 to 9 bucks for it when you do find it. Well, I now get to make this on my time, with more natural ingredients....fresh ! TY very much.

I have been making pumpkin roll for thirty years. I've never used parchment paper and I've never had a fail. Heavily grease and flour the pan and check for any "stuck spots" with a flat spatula before flipping!

Do you need to remove the shell in the nutmeg? I am assuming no, bcs it's not mentioned, I have never used fresh nutmeg.

I make these every Thanksgiving, it’s a family favorite for both sides of my family. I sprinkle chopped walnuts or pecans over the cake batter before baking. The uts on top just send this roll from good to absolutely delicious.

I made this cake yesterday for my birthday, and it was delicious! It was so much fun to make, and the flavor is just what I want from a pumpkin cake! Plenty of real pumpkin, warmly spiced, and not super sweet. I think I'm going to keep using the dishtowel technique for every roll cake I bake from now on, too. It was definitely easier to roll it up in the towel instead of stiff, crinkly parchment paper, and it stayed super moist and soft until it was ready for frosting. Thank you for this recipe!

My roll cake is currently cooling off getting its "curl" in the fridge at 323am.....lol.

I also made my frosting way ahead of time, so it is also in the fridge. And yes, I will take it out first so it can soften up.
This is one of my favorite cakes, and you have to look high and low to find it in the stores and pay 8 to 9 bucks for it when you do find it.
Well, I now get to make this on my time, with more natural ingredients....fresh !
