    very sad that series was way ahead of its time in so many ways

    I watched all 5 seasons when they aired on television. All I can say is that this show spun wildly out of control. The cast came and went like every other season. Word was many of the cast were unhappy with the producers and there contracts. There were way too many subplots. How this show and Andromeda survived 5 years is beyond me. The only thing I can think of was at the time 97-02 there were not that many scifi shows running, so perhaps competition was not there. Added to the fact that this was a critical turning point in television with the grittiness going away in favor of teenage dramas and shows like Monk and Burn Notice taking over. The show did highlight its excellent use of make-up and special effects and it did resolve all plots and subplots by the end of the 5th season something "Lost" could never do.

      Yes agreed. Boone was the backbone of the show.

      Word was the producers couldn't find a way to continue with the character of William Boone so they had Kevin Kilner's character killed off after the 1st season but yes after that the show took a nose dive with too many subplots and too many characters. I'm trying to find a video I recorded at a convention sometime ago. Lisa Howard was speaking at a panel and gave an in-depth interview about what it was like working on the set of EFC. One point if I remember correctly was that because it was Gene Roddenberry estate that owned the rights, the producers and writers had to run everything by his widow Majel Roddenberry. This angered many writers who believed the show needed independent creativity and limited the producers. The actors were felt all the way down to the actors who grew very impatient with the producers which became evident as many cast members left season after season.

      There were quite a lot of scifi shows running at the time. The late 90's had Star Trek Voyager, Star Trek Deep Space 9, Babylon 5, Stargate SG1, Farscape, The X-Files, Sliders, The Outer Limits remake, and there's probably a few others I'm missing. So as far as competition it was very much there. That period was when the last scifi wave really reached it's height. It's really too bad EFC and Andromeda ended up being such train wrecks, they had some really good ideas behind them.

      @Crusher Corps The one good thing about the decline of that series was, when I wrote an angry letter about them eviscerating the series no one called me: sexist, racist or homophobic the way the Kathy Kennedy's, or Alex Kurtsman's and their ilk, in Hollywood do now, to protect their fragile egos... I never found the Liam character the slightest bit interesting, but that's maybe just me.

    I have to say this. I've been thinking back on this series alot - and re-watching it. I have no regrets at all for the attention I gave it. I really like/liked it. However, I really think the ending needs some re-tooling.
    Turning Jaridians and Taelons back into Atavus accomplishes nothing. Neither species survives. What is more likely is that Ma'el did find a way to synthesize Taelon core energy - and restore the life force to the Jaridicians. However, it would have taken the cooperation of humans (Street), Taelons, Jaridians and Kimera (Liam).
    Da'an is able to carry out a bloodless coup after learning the truth of Ma'el's artifact.

    You know, it would've been interesting to see season 5 be where the Humans, Taelons and Jaridians are forced to put aside their differences with each other to fight the Atavus. Also, they should've had humanity's genetics or whatever save the Taelons and Jaridians since despite whatever bad things both races did in their feud, they both had things about them which were good....... Humanity could've been the bridge between the 2 races that ensured a lasting peace between them.

    It was inevitable that the series would end on such a lame note.Sad that such a potentially beautiful story had a banal conclusion.

  • @archforge
    @archforge 14 лет назад +14

    Ugh the show should have ended after season 1. After season 1 they polarized the two groups, the rebels were the good guys and the Taelons were the good guys. That was never what Roddenberry dreamed the show to be. The show was about the conflict of human nature, how we still were on conflict with ourselves. The character William Boone was suppose to discover it without being able to trust both sides completley.

    Boy, how many times did this show jump the shark?? They killed off the primary protagonist in William Boone at the end of season 1. Then they killed off everyone else worth watching with the end of season 4.
    Jumping the shark became a regularity. If only....

    The first season was good. The next four, not so much. If Roddenberry had of been alive when this was made this show would have done a lot better and had a lot more stability.

    • @unintentionallydramatic
      @unintentionallydramatic 5 лет назад +1

      If Roddenberry had been alive the Taelons would've been right about everything all the time and forever.
      Just look at TNG S1 & 2 to see what Roddenberry being in control of a project does to it.

    • @AWriterWandering
      @AWriterWandering 4 года назад

      @@unintentionallydramatic Yeah, Roddenberry had a tendency to write extremely self-righteous characters. It was acceptable in the TOS era, as that was the norm in television at the time (black and white morality), but by TNG people could see that this wasn’t very compelling or realistic.

  • @JasonAlredge
    @JasonAlredge 14 лет назад +4

    I agree with you. I think that thte 5th season should have been completely different-Okay, like the fate of the Taleons and Jaridians should have been kept under wraps all the way towards the end. in the meantime, the focus should have been on the humans, like how will they go on without the Taelons in thier lives.

  • @thegreenmanofnorwich
    @thegreenmanofnorwich 15 лет назад +4

    I had sorta hoped that the atavan energy would restore the Taelons and Jaridians as themselves. Of course, it didn't help that season 5 was a bit dumbed down. There could have been so many more interesting possibilities where humans aren't all "good" and Taelons/humans/Jaridians all had to work together and overcome mistrust. Ah well.

      @thegreenmanofnorwich 5 лет назад +1

      I think it's supposed to be that even after death, Taelons remain in the commonality in some sense, and do so forever. As the last Taelon (and possibly also the first) Ra'jel held the commonality alone.
