I agree with this, my favourite human character was Boone, I thought his depiction of a man working against the Taelon's but still willing to try and understand them particularly with his conversations with Da'an.

  • @JasonAlredge
    @JasonAlredge 14 лет назад +7

Liam was always complaining to Da'an about how the Taelons were trying to dominate humanity with their tech in nearly every episode and I thought it was annoying. The relationship between Da'an and Zo'or I really enjoyed.
    Loved the show!

Do not forget Daan constantly telling Zoor he is doing bad, and thats it! Nothing else. Daan turned, at the end into a helpless fool.

For me, I lost interest basically by mid way through the second season. Them killing off Boone did not make any sense at all to me. Of the human characters, only Boone and Sandoval had anything approaching real depth. In fact "Sandoval's Run" was probably one of the best SF episodes I'd seen until BSG ten years later. It was a shame, alltough some of the episodes in the 1st season I would class as average, many of them were really good. So for me this is a show that really only had one season and I think maybe it would have been better cancelled after that.

I know this is a few years late, but I just watched the show on Amazon. What The Frack??? They spent 4 seasons on "The Taelons are running out of time! We must save the Taelons!" only to let them become degenerated Atavis in that underground bunker? And we never see Da'an again (my favorite character). If becoming Atavis was the goal all along, they could have done it on their own like they did before. Da'an as an Atavis could have been interesting, but they never explained exactly what happened. We just see a lot of Atavis in Season 5, some of whom came to earth previously... What a MESS!
This show could have been an all time great one, but someone totally screwed it up! Still, I loved watching Da'an...

I really liked Da'an and really disliked Zo'or but Taelon characters were familiar. I have no desire whatever to begin on a 5th series with all new characters! Great review. While I think Babylon 5 rose to the occasion even moreso than EFC, this show showed what you could do when you let science fiction on TV become something greater.
Sandoval was often the most interesting human character at times despite being the villain. The slow revelation of the Taelon's agenda was done greatly, I think, but my problem with it is that it became too episodic.

I really liked your review! I cared about the human characters, but much more about Sandoval, Augur, Doors, and Lili. I did grow to like Renee, until season 5, at which point I resented her for even being involved with the show. Robert Leeshock's level of acting is much better suited to his nipple-painting Zegerid OTC commercial.
It was all kind of a big sci fi soap opera, and that's why I loved it.

I only saw the first season but I enjoyed it. I heard a lot of people lost interest when they switched from Boon to Liam.
A lot of these shows tend to suffer from story drift. Either no one ever writes a bible for the show - or, as happened with Andromeda - the studio falls out with the guy that wrote it and burns it.

I thought E:FC was original as well, but not for the reasons you stated. The idea of aliens coming to earth as benevelent ambassadors to the stars, bestowing gifts of technology and enlightenment, but with sinister ulterior motives has been done before. And was done really well. I do recommend you check out the show V.

Losing so many main characters is always a killing move for a series . The reason was the actors wanted more money and the production company said no .
The first season was more like X-files we didn't get much answers only suspicions the seasons after this were a lot different and often cleared up the old plots. The major messages of the show form season 1 to 4(in season 5 only a tiny bit) were often finding some spiritual truth(some times practical) in a highly technology environment
About the background before the Taylons showed up earth was again on the bring of a nuclear war but this was the Indian -Pakistan conflict and it seem other conflict resurged similar how it is today. This were humanity said it is enough so they were all too wiling to accept help from aliens.

I agree with EVERYTHING you said about Earth: Final Conflict. The two main Taelon characters, Boone, and Sandoval, were excellent and I couldn't believe it when Boone was killed off. Contract dispute? i don't know. As you said, Season Five is Garbage. I never even saw the last episode, but I'm binge-watching the show on Amazon Prime at this time.
As for other Science Fiction shows ... I was born in 1960 and began reading Science Fiction in 5th grade, though I watched The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits in reruns, as well as Star Trek in first run, though at age 6 and 7 it was over my head. In reruns I loved Star Trek. I liked all the Captains and main characters in every spin-off including Discovery, though some series were better than others. Season One of Earth Final Conflict was excellent, and things went down from there, til I didn't care anymore in the 5th season .
I thought Babylon 5 was as good as Star Trek TNG. Stargate SG-1 was excellent for the first few seasons but was only good thereafter. Firefly was excellent and way too short lived, just as good as the best Star Trek, in my humble opinion.
I also don't watch much TV. Football and maybe one show in original airing and one older show.
    Keep making vidoes!

You should see it! I love that show! The character interaction is absolutely fantastic!
If you see it, keep a close watch on G'kar and Lando's relationship!

I really need to get this off my chest-It seems to me that the Resistance could just kill the Taelons just by using those skrills. I mean, if they hate them or whatever becasue they were 'dominating the planet' with WONDERFUL technology and world peace! That 's a freakin' joke! I think the reason they wern't just killed off one by one like they would in other sci-fi shows is that they appeared gentle, frail, ect. Their voices and the blue color correspond to that benevolence.

I find it very interesting that here in England on what we call 'The Horror Channel' on Freeview television, they have actually been through this series twice now, but recently they began showing it on the Sci-Fi 6pm - 9pm section. You get one show a night and then on Saturday morning you get an omnibus edition. Earth Final Conflict followed that course through series 1 - 4, but once Season 5 started ... no more Saturday morning omnibus; we get Star Trek the Original Series instead now. Frankly I see no point to series 5 at all, it might as well have been a completely different series. Da'an and Zo'or were the stars of this series - so why remove them completely from the 5th series? That would be like blowing up the Babylon 5 space station, but continuing the series and still calling it Babylon 5! Total nonsense - and a good series completely ruined.

  • @williamarends7138
    @williamarends7138 5 лет назад

I found it interesting that the Talons presented as cold and calculating female mother figures, trying to find ways to continue to birth new members of their race having faced an existential problem with gestation; while their cosmic adversaries the Jaridians presented as a hot primal male dominant race so energetic that they were close to physically burning themselves out. That the primordial race of the Avatars was a combination of both races was perhaps the only interesting thing about them and season 5. I find it sad that the character of Sandoval was not allowed to find redemption in the main time line of the show and that the characters of Da'an and Zo'or were typecast as good and evil whatever the arc of the plot line became. These shows are always better with more plot twists and character developments. Interesting how the Avatars were recreated in Stargate Atlantis as the Wraith race both having been evil ancient enemies of mankind and feeders off the human life force.

  • @JasonAlredge

I agree with you totally! Season 5 was a complete turnover from the show, in a very bad way!
The show really should have ended in season 4- the way I would see it is the Taelons & Jaridians should have been saved in that volcano, Sandoval died on the mothership & Liam & Renee leave Earth & travel thoughout the universe!

My problem with this series was Zo'or and his smug moustache-twirling demeanor; he seemed to enjoy plotting to kill Da'an and he had “look, bad guy” written all over him.
It would be better if he were more so the Taeon counterpart to Jonathan doors: authoritarian and an extremist, but not a smug sadist.
Doors tried to have Liam killed, but he didn't do it with a smug face enjoying it, but because he thought it was necessary and thought Liam a liability.
It would be more interesting if Zo'or were more like that, rather than the cartoon villain that he is.

Andromeda has a great cast playing dynamic characters who actually make an attempt at real intelligent conversations. any of u guys ever played a game called Mass Effect it kinda embodies the same concept.

Sadly both these post Gene Roddenberry sci-fi TV shows (Earth Final Conflict and Andromeda) started out so good and became dull and boring later on throughout their runs. but even sadder still is though Andromeda was good for at least 3 seasons. Earth Final Conflict's premise was destroyed soon after they killed off Boone in season 1 however. His revival later on was a case of; too little, too late i'm afraid!

I would point out, though, that in your review, while you are telling us all what a good guy Da'an is - you failed to mention that he was a completely evil SOB during season 1 (i.e. -it was HIS idea to come to Earth in the first place, AND he orchestrated the death of Boone's wife). I'm actually only mildly familiar with the show - it's more my wife's thing...but even I know this fact, which you left out. Also - ditch that opening.

BOONE (KEVIN KILNER) was the focal character. the first storylines were well done, but, it seems the synod had a duel dilemma''. years 3/.4.5., just plain stunk. The TAELONS were too secretive They claimed they were there for humanity, but ,had ulterior momemnts. i really liked AUGUR, a rogue character , that had everyone fooled. when season 4 ended, it gave you the impression that season 5 would be the best, that the subtle intrigues would be replaced by a whole new era of hope and optimism. whoever wrote the fifth season should hang his head in shame and give up the profession of writing forever, because he/she/it/them took the best possible season hook and turned it into a river of shit by turning the aliens into retards who just killed people. i maybe saw 2-3 episodes of that season, and gave up on it entirely

Makes me laugh when I see the Irish Companion protector talking about Runes - Oh and 'Celtic Runes' at that. Runes were a Germanic writing system used by the Anglo-Saxons (i.e. English), Vikings, etc. They were not Irish, Celtic, and were never used by them. They had a writing system called the the Ogham Just another load of twaddle because lazy researchers would rather propagate the same old romantic nonsense about Ireland and the Irish without any kind of accuracy.

What the hell is going on in season 5? Watched this with the hopes it would get better, what a disappointment

Season 1 was perfect. Season 2-4 was a random jumbled mess. Season 5 was horrible, with the only redeeming factor was having Boone come back.

seasons 1 thru 4 are ok. tight writing but plots that went nowhere. season 5 is completely off the rails. the only good part was zo'or returning as an atavus. this, if continued, would have saved the show.

no worth to comment - even 5th season contains ancient wisdom... for one who can see finds the wisdom and beauty everywhere... one who cannot see - well... creates such ego driven clip - cu in another dimension or better not

The first saison was great but after that it went downhill and the last season is unwatchable ... for me the best series stays babylon 5 ... for the stories , the battles , the looks , ...

No one can ever accuse Arthur Clark of not being original. The scenerio in Childhoods End was a little different though. I don't want to give to much away, but it seemed to me that the Aliens weren't sinister or evil. They just weren't forthright about their real reasons for being there. And ultimately believed they were there to help mankind...in a way that mankind wouldn't really understand.

Why does everyone love Boone so much? The character was boring and the actor was HORRIBLE.
Sandoval and all of the Taleons were the stars of the show.
