Tom, NO - you've paid for a degree. He is an adult. It is up to him to fund this next degree, even if he decides to borrow the money. He has other options. Why is he even asking you? No matter how much you have set aside for yourselves, it can disappear in a jiffy if you have a medical condition. DO NOT DO IT. You weren't in the discussions so you don't even know what the conversations went like. He can cash flow the degree by going part-time. It's up to HIM now to build his career and make the sacrifices that are needed, not up to you. Continuing to pay for whatever he "needs" to advance in life will set a bad precedent. And even if he has to borrow the money - which the RS people will say is NEVER allowed (even though they had student loan debt) - what he will make as a chemical engineer is one of the highest starting salaries out there. He would certainly be able to pay off a student loan for the extra classes he would need for an engineering degree b/c he already would have many of the courses completed with his chemistry degree.
The first caller...If the sister was the sole caregiver without the assistance of the other siblings. They should consider gifting some of their inheritance to her. I reside in NJ, and I have been a caregiver for my 81-year-old mom for the past13 years and it is not for the faint of heart. There has been a lot of sacrifice, but I am working and have some retirement savings. If they gift some inheritance, they could possibly buy a condo outright.
I was thinking the same thing. The sister sacrificed as the main caregiver, now has nowhere to live as the siblings sell the house. She deserves a bigger cut of the sale.
In everything give thanks to God. He took what was meant for bad and turned it into a blessing for Shannon and Brooks. I commented to pay the house off bf doing the back yard. I'm glad they made their own decision to do that and now they are debt free a year and half earlier!!! So proud of them. God Bless them. Such a great testimony!!❤
I love the rudimentary answers. I can always be reminded to be wise and stay on track. It’s all still great information no matter who’s saying it. Thanks Ramsey Show.❤️
The problem with that situation is that the six siblings should not get most of the inheritance when that one sister put her life and finances on hold to care for their mother.
With Matt's call, kind of made it sound like their finances were separate due to trust and mishandling finances. But when you add it all up, it was already separated.
I love your show and almost always agree with the advice you give. But today, George and Jade utterly missed the point in the first call regarding the woman who called about her sister who had been the caretaker for her mother for six years, had started her pension early, and now has no money to buy a house. Why should her mother’s house be deeded to her six siblings when she was the one who put her life on hold to care for her mother? It seems to me that those six siblings owe her not only a debt of gratitude, but perhaps a decent portion that they will receive from the mother’s house. Or maybe she should just inherit the house by herself. I was very disappointed that you missed that detail.
I think you're looking at this in a vacuum and clearly there is more to this story. She probably had financial issues in the past (hence why she had nothing saved). She can survive on her portion of the sell and get a job, rent or buy a cheap house.
For the caller who's Sister was a caregiver for 6 years. Nursing Home cost per month $11,000 x 6 yrs =$792,000. That does not include Supplies, Medications, Transportation to Dr Appts ($400 ea. trip), Doctor Appts etc. The house could have been sold to pay for Mom's care but it wouldn't have covered all the costs and the Estate would have been in the Negative = None of the siblings would get any money. She said each of the 7 sibling would get $80,000 after the sale of the house = house value $560,000. If they sell the house for $560,000, give the Caregiver Sister $300,000 towards her own house they would each still get $43,333.33 which is so much better than nothing. Plus, 6 of the siblings went to live their regular lives while the Caregiver Sister took care of their Mother.
The sister was caretaker for the mom for 6 years. Sounds like she gave up her life for 6 years to take care of the mom. Why aren’t the siblings giving up part of their inheritance to assist her. Jade and George did not look at full picture here. Had the sister not taken care of the mom, it seems entirely possible the house would have been sold long ago and far less dollars available now.
We don't have the whole story, there is probably more family history that clouds this. And That was her choice, you shouldn't expect financial gains because you sacrificed time or money for someone
@@PaulGrime-m5ifair enough. I think it's obvious this sister did not take her of herself financially in the past. They should let her stay in the mother's home and when it sells, she can take her portion and get her own place or start renting and working.
I didn't listen to the whole podcast, so maybe Veterans day was acknowledged later. When George mentioned it was 11/11, I was expecting a recognition of our veterans and maybe a history lesson about "Armistice Day". I was not expecting him declaring it as "Singles Day", which is a Chinese "Hallmark Holiday" and go into a commercial for the Ramsey Store. I mean if you are having a sale on this date, its a much better look ton call to call it a Veterans Day sale, instead of a Singles Day sale.
Couldn’t agree more. The advice is usually not as good. They let some calls go way to long and sometimes compassion is severely lacking, across most of the “Ramsey personalities”.
Love Jade! Love Ramsey but George makes me sad, I did not finish the show. He is too abrasive. Lady should not buy her sister a home sure, but to go after the sisters pets when she just lost her Mom. Dave feels like my favorite Uncle, but George I cannot watch. 3rd time I have heard him come after pets and old ladies.
Because he's very quick witted and intelligent with personal finances. Not everyone has to be overly compassionate because someone has problems. You don't need to coddle adults that have made poor decision after decision.
If his employer is telling him he needs an engineering degree then they should have a program where they pay partial if not all of it and he goes nights
He has to let the other personalities shine a lot more these days so when that time comes for Rachel to inherit the show we will be already sort of used to not seeing Dave
The hosts need to update their info, unless this is a repeat. They have the age for RMDs wrong, it’s age 75 for some people, and gift tax exemption is higher too.
Electrical, the breaker for the house somehow caught on fire and since we had an unfinished garage and exposed wood it got onto that. We did have a mouse problem so I just tell my friends a mouse bit some wires and then our house caught on fire. Hope this answers your question
3rd call I think.? You make 180,000 a year with no house payment. You can afford 2 years of college for the son. Still not obligated, but it’s not an “ummm” question.
While you could afford to pay for his full ride, I know it is beneficial for them to sweat a bit and live on their own. Rent, utilities, how to do laundry, clean and cook for himself. Car repairs, insurance, cell phone, etc. Now is the time for him to stumble and you catch his fall. Teach budgeting and life skills so he will learn to be a responsible and prosperous adult.
At the 32 minute mark George does say Happy Veteran's Day after a veteran's call in. It sounded like he forgot then casually threw it in. Oops, I'm not cancelling George, just a mistake imo
So wrong, she’s walked the walk, is married, has kids, she gets what the callers are worried about or don’t know what they should be worried about. Love the shows with her and Rachel the best!

Yes!! I was like I know I’m not crazy for thinking that the sister deserves something for taking care of their mom.
I was thinking the same thing. The sister sacrificed as the main caregiver, now has nowhere to live as the siblings sell the house. She deserves a bigger cut of the sale.
Totally agree. Jade and George missed this one big time.
I absolutely think the siblings should step up for the caretaker sibling. She should be given enough of the house sale to live in a decent place.
Yes, gift some of the inheritance (or sale of the home), easy solution. Even her portion would pay for a lot

Jackie, do not sign for a mortgage. Your sister cannot afford a house.
If their finances are separate, he doesn't get to say she was "hiding" debt. It was not a breach of trust if you agree to keep it separate.
The first caller was insufferable… crazy to see people in their 60’s still struggling with money decisions
RIGHT!?
