- The MR2 that started it all! Back in 2013 these guys took the community by storm making their first appearance at FL2K13. They just put down an impressive 1126whp, making this the worlds highest horsepower street trim MR2!

Depends on the year model, but you're right, I wouldn't touch a pre 93 MR2.
Really it's only bad in the iron block it came with from the factory. It'd probably feel similar/just as sketchy as a heavily modded 911 turbo here. 5sfe or 3sgte are iron blocks, my aluminum 1mz v6 is actually lighter than those, and with a wide rear tire snap oversteer is pretty much gone. You'd have to take it around a track and brake hard going into a corner, then give it hard throttle. On track days or autocross I'd say it's possible, but spirited driving with a lighter engine swap it'd be tough.
@@00ariOn00 With some simple aftermarket parts you can make a 91 handle much better than a 93+ they only upgraded the suspension realistically to help the car stay stable. So wide tires and a set of coils and it's perfectly fine. I've owned a 91 and 93. You're probably going to pay more for a 93+ if I could guess because there's less out there. Some 95s are priceless now because there's a couple hundred? Maybe more..

I like oversteer. It's not that bad of thing. Just need to anticipate it early.

That engine comes with a forged crank stock right? Regardless, it's a good engine to be making that power. It makes 1/2 the torque which is most likely why he didn't need to fully reinforce the engine.

@@coreybell9525 looks don't win races but his exhaust does look good. How well it runs only time will tell. Hopefully it's not just a backhalf car like most of the stuff he runs. Mph doesn't win races either if you can't 60ft. Low 10s high 9s at almost 160mph isn't very efficient. That's leaving way to much time on the board.
That would take time because this guy has been dialing in this mr2 for a decade. If he uses a compound turbo setup he will win.
The MR2's snap oversteer with that much power will turn "White Lightning" into the "White Tornado"

***** This is an instance where I think a turbo manages to enhance the sound. My gripe with the way honda motors sound is the rasp. If you manage to tame the rasp then it can become enjoyable like the K20 in this MR2.

Agreed, the turbo acts like a muffler and removes that rasp common in N/A Honda engines. The whine of the dog gears also adds to the noise too.

I looked through the comments to see if I was the only one, that doesn't look like 1,126 hp at all in such a light car, it looks like 500-600 hp.
And how many cars have you tuned? Its faster than my friends old mr2 and that had 800hp
Joe V, with 1,126 HP in a car that small and light, there should only be blips between shifts, blip.., blip.., blip.., blip .., instead you hear the engine having to work it's way through each gear.
He was probably only making 600 -800 hp in the vid cause i know at one point it said 30psi and he didnt have 1100 till 45psi so definitely under that

700 hp will rip out the engine mounts and make any mr2 lift if the tires hook up..you can look up other 3sgte builds with 700 plus hp and quickly see this is all clickbait bullshit
This is the best looking MR2 i have ever seen, it looks so good with the back spoiler of. Completely changed my mind about these beasts.
As much as I love the power output of the K20 (and despite me being a big Toyota fan and not a Honda fan), the fact is, I really love how clean the engine bay is with that engine in it.
So if a guy wanted to copy this setup, how much would it cost? 25k? 35k?

I have a SW20 MR2 turbo. And you can find them (the turbo sw20s) for around 10k and with the stock 3SGTE with some basic bolt ons and a tune for under 15k total you could have a 350-400WHP mid engine sports car that weighs around 2700 pounds. And will keep up RELIABLY with a lot on the street!

This man is so crazy. I really am going to pray for him. My stock mr2 turbo wants to get light in the front end at high speeds on the interstate. I think it is the coolest thing I have ever seen but building and especially driving that car is insane. You are nuts.

The K20 makes far more power than the stocker. Stock for stock, the K20 wins against all but the K24/20 hybrids.

well 1320 is fair to say that you guys need a shot at the car as well... in the other hand we need this mr2 against a underground racing TT lambo to find out who is who... big budget(UR TT lambo) vs small pockets (cakesfab Engineering k20 T mr2)
Now imagine, N/A, 10000 RPM redline, Stripped out, Rolled caged, Slicked Track Day MONSTER! Props to the owner for this gem. Turbo is so big it's sitting in the trunk.
I lost track how many times I came watchin this. Its so menacing yet elegant at the same time. Seriously, perfect setup.
No way its sub 2300 lbs. I've owned 2 mr2's and fully gutted they were just under 2500. No carpets, speakers, radio deck gone, airbag pulled, spare tire and light weight battery, sound deadening on the floor gone, etc. 2300 would be a ridiculous feat with all that piping. Still fast as shit though. If only I could find a way to stuff a lsx in mine.

InATrance4Life BS, in street trim a mr2 turbo is 2900 lbs. That car looks a lot like street trim. So even if he saves 200 lbs with the engine, 50 with the transmission, and somehow cuts 200 lbs out from the car itself we are still sitting at 2450. Again, next to impossible.

InATrance4Life With a n/a k20 maybe, with lexan windows and plenty of other lightweight goodies. Ac gone, all the tubing for it gone, spare gone, carbon everything, no carpets, no sound deadening, hardtop car, carbon seats hard mounted, no cage, no air bag, light wheels.
Like I said, I stripped a n/a 5sfe car and managed to hit 2490. Thats with the lighter tranny, lighter engine, no turbo or piping, aftermarket exhaust, carbon deck lid weighing 4 lbs, carpets gone, lightweight battery, and so on. That mr2 looked like it still had interior and real glass, and probably a cage too. Hence why I'm not buying it.

The driver doesn't understand the principle of engine braking.
It's dangerous to coast in neutral at those speeds because you won't be able to maneuver out of a dangerous situation if your not in gear.
It just blows my mind that he is obviously knowledgeable about cars and yet can't drive a manual transmission correctly.

I'm curious in what situation on the road would he need to quickly accelerate when he's already going 140+mph?
With an H-pattern manual transmission it takes almost no time at all to blip the throttle and throw it in any gear. If I'm casually driving I'm going to be in 5th, if I need to accelerate quickly I'm going to be dropping down at least 2 gears anyway.

This is an example of the kind of car I would build if I were on a deathwish. Second generation SW20 chassis MR-2 turbos are already notorious for their squirrely handling as is in stock trim.
Finally an honest HP rating, the only reason I clicked on this vid. You can always tell the BS HP rating when they say something like 1500 HP, when pressed they are always like well that's estimated. UH HUH in other words BS. The dyno don't lie so you get a number like 1126. Impressive build.
That shifter is dope as fuck.. Looks like the same one they use in the Rolex 24 Hour race cars, except this one still shifts through the H-pattern instead of the sequential dog gears.
