I don't know if Joey Votto does any MLB games as a commentator. If not, then he really should be. He is so knowledgeble, articulate, and clearly a great ambassador of the game.
I’m amazed. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him speak before. I always thought of him as a stereotypical meathead jock!! I stand corrected!! Apologies, Joey!!
I was thinking the same thing. I was wondering if he was working with MLB to promote the game. So, I looked it up and he is in college learning Spanish because he has an interest in working in the Dominican Republic with MLB in some capacity. Pretty cool.
Never been a Reds fan, but I could listen to Votto talk ball all day long. He's one of the most fascinating players I've ever seen. I've always loved the energy.
I've never listened to Votto talk before. I only knew him as this gritty hard working baller... I half expected him to have a deeper voice and exhibit a fair bit of bravado. Exact opposite and refreshing. He's awesome.
I would love nothing more than to sit down and have a beer with Joey Votto and just hear him talk about baseball. I wouldn’t even say anything. I’d just pick his brain. The dude is a baseball genius
Great insightful interview. Only thing I don't agree with is the take on the fanbase. If Dodgers fans are late it's because of the traffic not a casual attitude, which is the stereotypical take. And they're as passionate as they come. And Jerry Seinfeld is a Mets fan. Not a Dodgers fan. :)
I'm brand new to baseball (a cricket fan who started following this year after being drawn in by the Sohei story). I feel like I just learned so much just listening to this interview. I'm going to have to look up other clips of Votto talking. He's so eloquent.
I'm a lifelong baseball fan who recently started following cricket a bit thanks to Jonboy breakdowns. I even woke up at 3am to watch the World Cup final last November.
Enough of these tired tropes about Dodger fans being Hollywood and showing up late. Put some respect on them. Its a diehard fanbase thats as good as any other. They know their history and heritage and celebrate it. Youll see Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, Fernando Valenzuela jerseys all all over the stands. They know when records are being approached and love their former players. Go to Philippe’s after a game and meet some of the best baseball fans.
If you can’t be happy or excited about two juggernaut teams with a storied history, with numerous future hall of famers, battling it out for the Ring…. Then how much can you really like baseball? This is the stuff of legends. These are the same games that our fathers and grandfathers told us about where we were all like, “whoa, you saw that? I would have loved to have experienced that time”. This is it. We are living it right now. American sports history. Let’s Go!
What votto is talking about re: fastballs is something they call "shape". Different fastballs move/dont move depending on their spin rate. A high spin rate FB will have more carry to it (aka; it doesnt sink due to gravity as much) than a lower spin rate FB even if its slower, MPH wise. That makes it much harder to square up because it doesnt "move" like the hitter is expecting.
If you’re talking worldwide, there’s a few. Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, Lebron, Mbappe. Top 50 is a little egregious. I’d say top 10. If I missed someone, don’t murder me please.
@@DogPayne Football players really have big advantage here because bum (relative to shohei) like Trent Alexander Arnold might be more famous than Shohei.
im not a fanatic of MLB, but I respect the sport so Im now just starting to do my research on this Ohtani player, heard the name in the past never did my deep dive, however I see this giuy is like really really great, mount rushmore of sport potential so thats pretty awesome for this era of sports. NHL Wayne Gretszky of 80s 90s, NBA Michael Jordan 80s 90s, NFL TOm brady 2000s 2010s, now MLB fans got a potiential #1 in present day!
Joey V doesn't look like a retired ball player, he looks like he could play another 5 years. He was so great for the game; I'd love if he got a studio job somewhere.
The game needs this WS matchup. Too many irrelevant teams have won lately but in my opinion when the Yankees and to slightly lesser extent the Dodgers win its historic. These clubs go back to an America that no longer exists and despite being in opposite leagues they are bitter rivals.
I couldn't agree more with Joey about velocity being overrated. What a pitcher is doing with a ball is just as important (if not more so) than how they're throwing it IMHO.
Ok - please don't blow up may Utube notifications, but what is more epic: Shohei pitching to Judge in the 9th for the win this season to close, or the WBC Trout-Ohtani last out?
Disagree with Votto re Dodger Stadium. Unless it's a night game, it's very hard to hit because the backdrop is white and light blue. Willie Mays said the the light backdrop made it hard to see that ball out of a pitcher's hand properly. Night games are standard. Dodger stadium has long been considered a very pitcher-friendly ballpark mainly because of its dimensions. Once the foul territory was taken over somewhat by box seats, the pitcher-friendly aspect became slightly less. The dimmensions are above average too.
Uhh, Votto actually played there. Have you played a game there? How can you disagree with something so confidently when you never experienced it yourself? lol
The only time it's harder to hit in the stadium is right around 5-6 pm when the shadows creep into the pitching lane. The ball won't reflect light until halfway to the plate. Everyone has a harder time hitting when that happens
They've put up a massive black batter's eye in center field since Willie Mays played and it's become one of the more pleasant hitting experiences for hitters since then. As you said, it's also become a hitter's park in recent years as expanded the seats into some of the foul ground territory, but also because the slow warming of the climate has made it so there are fewer nights with that cold marine layer rolling in to kill fly balls at the warning track in the 7th/8th/9th innings.
I don't know if Joey Votto does any MLB games as a commentator. If not, then he really should be. He is so knowledgeble, articulate, and clearly a great ambassador of the game.
Dude was speaking baseball
@@BentleyVB This is called an interview.
@@George-f8huh huh
I was just coming down to the comments section to say exactly the same thing!
He can easily replace A Rod on Fox broadcasts.
This was such an awesome interview!! Need to get Votto on more often.
Exceptional interview. Votto's perspective is so thoughtful and well-described. Unique.
Canadian educated.
He's so articulate, amazing interview
I’m amazed. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him speak before. I always thought of him as a stereotypical meathead jock!! I stand corrected!! Apologies, Joey!!
Joey's enthusiasm is contagious; what a fantastic ambassador for baseball.
I was thinking the same thing. I was wondering if he was working with MLB to promote the game.
So, I looked it up and he is in college learning Spanish because he has an interest in working in the Dominican Republic with MLB in some capacity.
Pretty cool.
Votto is a fabulous spokesman....
That was a great interview, love Votto.
What a interview, please bring Votto back on more.
JOEY VOTTO... Wow! So articulate. That dude deserves a job on the broadcast booth. His level of understanding reminds me of John Smoltz!
It's refreshing to hear an MLBer talk about their love of the game.
OMG right??? Their love of the game, not just how many millions they're worth.
Joey Votto needs a Podcast channel of his own.. He is so good at explaining things!
I would say, "OMG!" but I'm rooting for Shohei and the Dodgers. What a great interview. Thank you, Joey! We're all fans of baseball.
It’s awesome to hear Votto break down the game
Joey Votto is a gift to baseball, that passion is unmatched.
He’s so articulate and so unbiased. He needs to have his own show.
Great interview by the future Hall of Famer Joey Votto. I'm so excited for this world series. I can't wait.
What a fantastic interview. Bravo 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Such an intelligent man wow

I agree!
Every interview I see with Votto, I like him even more.
Shota Imanaga of the Cubs this year was a great example of a fastball in the 90~93 mph being way more valuable then other faster fastballs.
Joey Votto is such a nice guy and well articulated.
This was great! Always enjoy Votto and anything not typically discussed in interviews about the game.
Man Joey is so well spoken. What a mind!
Someone needs to hire this man as their hitting coach and eventually Manager.
These 2 powerhouses will put on a show. Dodgers in 6
Joey Votto is great man. This was a very good interview

The best baseball interview that I've ever seen. Thanks.
Wow didnt know Joey Votto was such a great interview! Get that man in the booth. He is better has more thoughtful insight than just about anyone on TV
Loved this interview with Joey, very knowledgeable, thanks
This guys just oooozes class. You can hear the geunine love of the game the entire time.
This was a great Interview I usually get bored of these types of interviews, but I was glued to the screen! Votto is fantastic
Joey had very fascinating and thoughtful responses!

He didn’t experience much postseason baseball as a player, so he can’t speak to the playoff atmospheres of each team.
Mr. Votto is a gem as an anlyst of the game.
Joey Votto is awesome. Bring him back often.
Excellent answer about Trout. Votto is a great guy
Joey Votto extremely well spoken smart guy.
Great breakdown ! The guy really gave us normal people insight into how batters see fastballs.
There's gonna be 55,000 fans in Dodger Stadium whether we are late or not. 😛
Joey votto is vernacular gold

@rusrockt10 That's awesome! Jomboy is doing more for cricket than the ICC or any cricket administrator has ever done.
Hey Votto que paso ! Great baseball career with the Reds, good luck in your next chapter of life.
wow! Joey Votto took me by surprise, he could be a Hall of Fame com

What a clear mind and likable dude based on this interview….
Man, Joey Votto drilled deep on the hitting, and the often overlooked stadium preferences. Interesting.
Fantastic interview!
great interview Dan
Votto is such a good interviewee man, what a legend
This guy is low key a genius so impressed

All my homies love Joey Votto
It sure would've been nice if there was a follow up to this conversation post-WS since it only lasted five games.
I need more Votto talking about baseball. He needs a job for MLB.
Wow, this is the depth that pro athletes go to when analyzing their game.

Joey Votto seems to able to step out of his skin and see the Game. The interview left me wanting to hear more.
Your good Votto, regards.
Joey needs to be on TV.

a bit disrespectful to talk about Trout’s legacy. such an uncomfortable question to answer.
