    I am subscribing! Old school can be the best as a service apprenticeship in a 2 man shop from a high school that didn’t even have a shop class or auto. But an ASE Master Tech since 1978 at a dealer with 8 tech’s and the service mgr couldn’t get anyone to take one test, much less 8.
    Self taught in patterns to sewing after my wife took classes with her sister, I had to help with home work. Sewing is rewarding but one must pay attention to margins, measuring and just planning the panel. The rest is knowing you machine and execution of “Best Practices” for the stitch. You made reference to a jig-was blade but looks like a clean hack saw and never thought of trying one. Very cool. When the foam is not dead, I like glueing burlap on the seat frame channel, foam side first to add strength. Just a common sense move if new is not in a budget or not available. Enjoy the learning! Thanks for sharing!

      @@oldschoolautoupholstery Sure thing! One more question: should I factor in foam density and compression? I came across an online source suggesting that 2.5 pounds density and 36 pounds compression should work. What are your thoughts on this?

    Nice video
    I have a couple of questions
    first what kind of tissu / textile you were using to rebuild under the foam
    also what was the stampler / tool you were using from 3:07 to 3:40 for fixing the felt and the tissue to the frame ? what kind of glue you were using for the foam ? and finally to which supplier can I get the stampler ?
    I'm repairing my own 1965 Baracuda as an amateur and wish to do a effective job
    Thank you very much !

    • @oldschoolautoupholstery
      @oldschoolautoupholstery  3 года назад +2

      Hi! I think that would be Burlap, then Jute pad. The tool would be hog ring pliers. Use a good construction-grade contact adhesive that can be bought at Home depot. The other tools and materials can be bought at an upholstery supplier. That 65 Baracuda will be a nice car when you're done!

    what kind of foam is the white foam? i’m just now learning upholstery, and i’m just curious what type of foam is used for this. also what are you using to cut it with? thanks

    • @oldschoolautoupholstery
      @oldschoolautoupholstery  2 года назад +4

      Hi! Basically, there are three densities for upholstery foam. High, medium, and low density. Most projects will use a medium density. Also, the way to measure is not by squeezing the foam between your fingers. The way to measure the density is to place your hands on each side of the foam like praying hands and push your hands together. Learning by doing! Go for it!

      Generally, you can ask your supplier for light, medium, and high-density foam. Older cars are most likely medium density. Newer cars have a high density for a stiffer seat to keep a better shape. Thanks for checking!
